Let's rename all the characters while we are at it! And let's drop the Starfleet angle too.

I am not crazy about the name at all, that's for sure. Seems incredibly...awkward.

No James Bond film is called James Bond. And The Dark Knight isn't "Batman: The Dark Knight". So, I don't think there's a need to put STAR TREK into the title. I think people know Star Trek when they see it. The "star" is clunky and hurts the title. "Trek Into Darkness" is fine. Just a simple suggestion.

Not crazy about the title at all. Seems too...gimmicky. "Trek Into Darkness", I agree, would be a little better.

Yes, that none of the James Bond films are called James Bond: whatever. The key word there being "none". That's their style. People expect and accept it.

And The Dark Knight is a common moniker for Batman. That's why they used it.

Trek into Darkness sounds like a cheap slasher flick.

Cup half full: at least it isn't 'Star Trekking Into Darkness'.

There is 007 symbol after every James Bond Movie title. In every commercial/poster

Batman movies had the Bat symbol with Dark Knight...

Maybe add a starfleet symbol to ST posters with the title only... That would make more sense.

Everyone's complaining about the title, but if the movie is good, who cares. Abrams is directing this, not Lucas, so I'm hopeful of the final product vs. say AOTC or something craptastic like that.

I'm trying to hold out hope, reminding myself that the second movie of both the other series were fantastic. So... who knows? Maybe this will follow that trend.

But then the logical side of me keeps being reminded that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are the writers.

Quote:
Paramount Pictures will release the first 9-minutes from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness on 500 IMAX 3D screens beginning December 14 on runs of the Peter Jackson-directed The Hobbit. That’s way before the film’s release next May. It is the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D and only the third time a first-look will be released in IMAX.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

The film used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci wrote the script and Abrams directed the film and produced with those guys through Bad Robot.

Looking forward to this. As a side note, are they showing the IMAX version of The Hobbit at 48 fps and in 3D?
