Downton Abbey

Hello everybody,

I've been delving into this British TV show called Downton Abbey for a few episodes now, and it is excellent so far! It's a period drama set in the early 1900s, and think of it as a soap opera of the highest calibre. Here's a brief synopsis from Wikipedia:

The series is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the Yorkshire country house of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the reign of King George V. The first series spans two years before the Great War, beginning with news of the sinking of the Titanic, which sets the story in motion. The second series covers the years 1916 to 1919 and the 2011 Christmas Special December 1919 to January 1920.

Season 2 just started in the US, although it's been finished for quite some time across the pond. You guys should really check this show out. It's not usually my cup of tea, but everything is brilliant about this show. The writing, the acting, and damn, even the costumes are exquisite. Here's a peek.

Ten months later and I'm finally watching Downton Abbey, lol. Had to start some time, huh? So far I've seen episodes 1 thru 3 of the first season and I must say, I love it. The characters are very engaging, the story is great and the setting/atmosphere is beautiful. Can't believe I waited to watch it so long. This show is definitely going to take up the rest of my weekend, lol.

Season 1 was really good and I'm about half-way through season 2, which so far isn't as bad as I've been led to believe it would be.

Finished season 1 last night, and I must say; brilliantly done. I enjoyed it very much. Though, time flies fast on that show, huh? Season 1 starts off the day after the Titanic sank in April of 1912, and season 2 starts off in 1916, a whole four years later. Talk about major time differences between episodes, huh? lol. Still though, tonight I think I'll start on season 2.

On Episode 3 of Season 2 right now, so far I'm addicted to this show and quickly running out of episodes.

I just finished season 3 last night. I actually think season 2 was pretty lacklustre, but I will not elaborate on it until Justin has caught up. Season 3 is a true return to form, however, if not a little rushed. Downton Abbey is basically a giant soap fest, but with better dressed characters. It's not a show that I am usually into, but I am.

Same here. At first I was skeptical since it seemed like the cliche British period piece, but the characters are all engaging and unique.

Favorite characters thus far include Bates, Anna and Sybil. Especially Sybil in season 2, I felt her character evolved and grew more than anything. Bates' story was also engaging as well. And honestly, I thought Season 2 was very well done. You really felt the emotional and physical impact of WWI on both the Staff and the family.

I didn't think I had to mention it. If you're watching, then you know. lol. The show's entire score is amazing and helps build or perfect those certain little moments.

The series has some of the best music on television. The main character relationship themes, whether it be Matthew and Lady Mary, Bates and Anna or Lady Sybil and Branson, each is brilliantly crafted. I absolutely love the show. Just finished the Christmas special, and can't wait to see how the juicy story lines will unfold. I just hope Lady Sybil returns since she's always been my favorite (no spoilers from those that have seen it already
