Call me crazy, but I have yet to see a Terrence Malick film I really love. I've seen Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, and The Tree of Life. I respect and admire all of those films for their craftsmanship, technical details, thematic ideas, and ambition, but I find myself unable to really get into his films. There's always distance between his works and I.

I should probably point out that I do like Malick's films, I just don't love them. I'm still going to see Badlands and The New World at some point.

And I was reading some of your Skyfall reviews and I've noticed a definite trend of 'not the crap fest that QoS was.' So I'm going to go to bat for that movie; call me crazy but QoS is not a bad film at all.

1) It's certainly not the worst Bond film, not by a long shot. To compare it to Moonraker or Man with the Golden Gun or Die Another Day is insane. I do understand that their problems are different; those other Bonds are corny, stupid and almost nonsensical, even for Bond movies. QoS has a muddled storyline but there's plenty of good to take away from it.

2) It had plenty of good action scenes. The pre-title car chase is a really fun watch and the post credits rooftop chase may be a straight Bourne ripoff but it's still highly entertaining. The scene where he outs all the Quantum members in the opera is one of my favorite parts in any Craig Bond movie.

3) The story isn't the greatest, but it's not horrible nor does it 'not make any sense.' It introduces Quantum as a SPECTREeque organization that I'm still hoping might be used down the road.

Yes, I know that it's 'not what Bond is all about' and was plagued with writing problems. I also get that it doesn't have anything that's really stand out, the Bond girls are wasted and useless and it's more of an action movie than it is a Bond movie. I get all that. But it's still a fun watch and isn't anywhere near the bottom of the Bond list (I think it was the recent Rolling Stone Bond list that put QoS at dead last. Oh please).

I'll defend QoS to a degree. It's really a smart film, both plot wise and thematically. But the execution is what killed it. Marc Forster has no idea how to choreograph and shoot an action set piece. I have yet to see Skyfall, but the cinematography looks ten times better than QoS.

Look out for the hand-to-hand fight scene in Shanghai. Beautifully shot.

I was under the impression we had more British people here. Friday estimates indicate that this movie opened big in the UK. Thought all of our British members would be discussing the movie right now.

i LOVE the opera scene. You're right. It's one of the highlights of Craig's tenure.

They were technically introduced in Casino Royale. They just didn't have a name.

Quantum of Solace was hurt by the 2007 Writer's Strike. The first 30 minutes are almost wall-to-wall action. Nothing of substance really happens. But after the 30-minute mark, the movie finally takes a deep breath and begins to tell a story. From there till the end, it's all good.

There's early reviews and then there's EARLY reviews. But to be fair, I also blame our British community. Time and time again, they never show up. There's no reason for the QoS and Skyfall threads to have gone so many pages without a 2nd review. The movies were released WEEKS in advance in their neck of the woods. Thankfully, if I recall correctly, JBond did the Casino Royale thread the day the film was released in North America. So, that thread isn't as messy.

Alien, shained, Mickey-Bizzle and I have actually been discussing the movie via PM since its UK launch, we just avoided the review thread because your annoyance humours us.
