The Flintstones, believe it or not, was a Primetime show from 1960-66. It opened the door for Simpsons, Family Guy, and all these other Primetime cartoons. So yes, MacFarlane is definitely making it for grown-ups since... it always was.

Times have changed since the 60's. Unless they have Pebbles as a wisecracking kid like Stewie, Rallo or Rodger it'll be weird. I really don't see how they can make The Flintstones an all ages cartoon and make people watch it when they don't watch other cartoons.

And really, how much did a show in the 60's have anything to do with a show from the late 80's? 1966 - 1989 is a bit of a difference and I'm sure The Flintstones reruns weren't primtime by the time the Simpsons came along.

Yeah, but the impact is not the same. There was no cable in the `60s. Homes didn't have 3 or more TV sets. The Flintstones was a show kids and their parents could watch during dinner. It definitely left a lasting impression for that generation. It's like... kids still watch the Simpsons today but they weren't there when Bart Simpson was considered such a bad role model his t-shirts and merchandise were banned from schools. So, to us, the Simpsons means something completely different than today's generation.

TBS airs reruns of Family Guy so it wouldn't be a problem.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/fox-...r-next-season/

Quote:
Seth MacFarlane is taking on immigration and the undergoing cultural shift in America. Seriously. With American Dad! moving to TBS and The Cleveland Show quietly getting cancelled, MacFarlane‘s animated presence on Fox had gone down to one show, flagship Family Guy. It will now be joined by a new animated comedy series next season, as Fox has given a 13-episode order to Bordertown, from MacFarlane and Family Guy‘s Mark Hentemann. Set in a fictitious desert town near the U.S.-Mexico border, Bordertown centers on the intertwining daily lives of neighbors Bud Buckwald and Ernesto Gonzales. Bud, a married father of three, is a Border Patrol agent who feels threatened by the cultural changes that have transformed his neighborhood. Living next door is Ernesto, an industrious Mexican immigrant and father of four, who is proud to be making it in America. As Bud and Ernesto’s paths begin to cross, their families become bound by friendship, romance and conflict. Judging by MacFarlane’s track record, the series is sure to skewer Southern and Mexican immigrant stereotypes with a ton of offensive jokes.

Bordertown is created and written by Hentemann, who will executive produce along with MacFarlane. Alex Carter (Family Guy) and Dan Vebber (American Dad!) serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Fox was needing another animated comedy series to replace American Dad! on the schedule next season as the network scrapped its midseason animated comedy Murder Police. Bordertown will join Family Guy and recently renewed The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers. In addition to Family Guy, MacFarlane also has live-action comedy Dads and the upcoming Cosmos follow-up on Fox.

Part of the reason I stopped watching Family Guy was because of how unbelievably annoying Brian was. I might try watching it again.

Brian was indeed annoying, and I'm liberal, but I always enjoyed the Stewie and Brian episodes. Those are the best ones these days.

Those are the episodes where he's just a laid back character. Outside of Stewie and Brian misadventures, which have been the best episodes, he usually just sits around and nags. It's safe to assume he's suppose to be the voice of reason (McFarlane's own thoughts?) amongst the insanity, which is kind of sad when you really think about it.

Thanks to the crossover with The Simpsons, Family Guy had its highest ratings in 4 years.

Not terrible but seeing the Family Guy-style cheap tasteless shock humor being executed in Springfield with Simpsons characters was a little jarring.
