Grant vs. Bond is probably my favourite scene of the series.

Cool

TOP FIVE 007 GUNBARRELS!

This may seem like a silly list. After all, they are all the same. BUT, if you analyze them closely, they're not. Between the music, animation, pose of the actor, and even negative stuff like a bullet going into the gunbarrel (Die Another Day), you can actually pull off a rank. So, here ya go.

#5 - FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I love this one for Bill Conti' funky music. I can just imagine him staring at Roger Moore's bell-bottoms and thinking, "yeah, I got this." It's also interesting that the background on Roger Moore isn't the usual white. It's like a sand-colored brown. It's definitely a nice change of pace. Oh... and, MORE COWBELL.

#4 - TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

The Pierce Brosnan era had that nice, silky CGI gunbarrel that is still the best to this day. Unless Skyfall has surpassed it. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. But as nice as the gunbarrel was, the music tended to suck and Brosnan is kind of stiff. This is the only film where the music is great and sort of compliments the stiffness.

#3 - CASINO ROYALE (2006)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

You have to give this one credit for creativity. The pre-title sequence in Casino Royale is Bond (Daniel Craig) getting his Double-O status and the gunbarrel sequence is his first kill. Nice! And I love the throwback to Dr. No with the gunbarrel transitioning into the opening credits. That's an even nicer touch.

#2 - OHMSS (1969)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I like John Barry's synthesized music and the design of the barrel. But the most amusing part is George Lazenby kneeling. The man is always smooth, even when he's shooting someone.

#1 - GOLDFINGER (1964)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

This is a perfect marriage of music, animation, and performance. I love how Sean Connery stunt double Bob Simmons glides onto the screen, walks as if he knows someone is about to assassinate him, jumps and draws first fire. I love it. It's so great they were never able to re-create it.

The bullet is terrible, of course, but even worse is the music. What the heck was David Arnold thinking?

But anyway, here are some other gunbarrels I enjoy:

LICENCE TO KILL (1989)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Michael Kamen gave the gunbarrel sequence its most epic music. And I've always loved Timothy Dalton's shooting pose. It's badass. I would be this one at #6.

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

The design of the barrel is great. It's very similar to the one in OHMSS. Also, gotta love Connery.

LIVE AND LET DIE (1973)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

The music was composed by George Martin a/k/a The Beatles' producer. And I love his transition from the gunbarrel into the skyscrapers of New York City. Some may argue it's a little cheesy but it fits the movie quite well. Besides, it's 1973. What else does one expect the music to sound like? I would put this one at #7.

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1974)

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Great and simple John Barry music. A classic. By the way, I find it amusing that Roger Moore was in the franchise so long and he aged so much that they made him re-do the gunbarrel sequence later on in this series.

I guess I can understand the reason to put the gunbarrel at the end of the movie. With closure from Vesper's betrayal, he can become a fully realized Bond. HOWEVER, while browsing through YouTube, it seems like the Skyfall gunbarrel has been leaked and it's also at the end of the movie. Now THAT'S stupid. Brace yourself:

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Daniel Craig officially has the worst pose of all the Bond actors. Just plain terrible.

Finally a Bond list I give a crap about! This is good stuff.

And the Skyfall one looks way better than that video gives it credit for.

10 ALTERNATE CHRISTMAS MOVIES!!!

Every Holiday season, people watch the same Christmas movies:
It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, Jim Carrey's The Grinch, etc.
So if you are looking for a change of pace, here are ten films to consider:

#10 - CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980)

As a young boy, Harry saw his mother being groped by Santa Claus. That kind of experience messes up a kid. Michael Jackson sang a song about it and look what happened to him! As an adult, Harry is a schmuck working at a toy factory. After being abused by the people around him one too many times, he suffers a nervous breakdown and transforms into a deranged Santa Claus. He steals toys from the factory and gives them as gifts to good people. But bad folks, however, get a trip to the after-life. You don't want to end up on this Santa's bad list. Christmas Evil is a slasher film, one of the earliest to be exact, and it has a high level of cheese factor that makes it very entertaining to watch. It won't be everyone's cup-of-tea, of course, but if it is, I think you'll enjoy it.

saveus and you could host a screening of it in L.A. If not, there's always "Silent Night, Deadly Night" which is essentially the same movie. I believe that one is getting a remake next year.

Die Hard has to be on this list, it just has to be.

I may consider "Die Hard 2." I don't think that movie is a regular Holiday viewing for most people. Then again... there's a reason for that.

#9 - TRADING PLACES (1983)

I've never understood why Trading Places isn't a holiday classic. It takes place during the holidays and it centers on the theme of greediness. It should have been required Christmas viewing from day one. But no matter. Here is your chance to make it a tradition. Especially in 2012 when the movie is more relevant than ever. Trading Places is about two rich old guys (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) who have a debate about nature vs nurture and then decide to conduct an experiment. They take a rich man (Dan Aykroyd) and force him to switch places with a poor person (Eddie Murphy). After their experiment is over they try to restore order but by then it's too late because both subjects discovered their scheme and want revenge. The film is multi-layered and explores many themes like greed, power, social class, and just people in general. It's important stuff to think about in a season when we're supposed to be celebrating Jesus' birthday but instead are fighting folks for a discounted TV at Wal-Mart.
