I think they should be decent films. But am I expecting them to equal or be better then Rings. No not really simply because Rings was a bigger story to tell and to me will always be better for sentimental reasons

Ah yes, we forgot that Vader forms his opinions of movies before he sees them.

Well The effects should be better espeically with the wolves or was wargs and other areas with The Hobbit. I think they will be great films but I always will like Rings better because it came first.
Takes Star Wars movies even if the prequel films were great I would have still prefered the original 3 films. |

How about you see the films before you make any assessment on which trilogy you prefer?

I think they all will be good films and it be a good trilogy. Its just the original first film Fellowship Of The Ring made me interested in fantasy books and that genra and there was this amazed feeling as a teenager would have then. I am only stating I don't think The Hobbit can equal the original level of fondness for me. Its not about the movie look tone or anything that will be debated to death.
The Hobbit I know what is gonna happen because read the book. Where as LOTR I never read the book until after 2003. |

The Hobbit is a great children's book but LOTR is so much more. I doubt the new films will be as highly regarded as the original trilogy, even with all the additional material thrown in.

Thats really kinda my point but also LOTR just felt like a magical experiance that i don't think any prequel attempt can duplicate.Prequel films seldom have the magic compared to any movie franchise if ask me.
The oddest thing is that Pirates had the best set up for a great prequel but it was never done. The Hobbit is gonna be a great set of films for those like me who love fantasy stories but like most prequels it likely will not be as magical. Last edited by DarthVader 2004; 10-16-2012 at 12:14 PM. |

"Great" and "prequel" are words that don't often ever go together, and when you throw "Pirates" in that sentence as well it really doesn't go together.

My point was that Disney messed up the really one interesting prequel concept. The other 2 were out of place and was forced sequels. Liked them as I do The Pirates movies should have had a prequel setting or Indiana Jones type trilogy where only Jack returned.
Anyways maybe I am wrong and this will make me a believer that prequel films can be better but it would be a moutain of a film because fellowship and the Two Towers are powerful films to over come if ask me. |

So they announced the running time to be roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes - anyone hear anything on how much extra footage they are thinking for the extended DVD/Blu-ray version?

The fact that it's being extended to three movies and they're still going to have extra footage is kinda crazy to me.

^ Agreed. 2 hours 40 is also the minimum as there are still effects to be touched up and he needs to add the credits. Not sure what to think, really.

I think its been said they are not sure if they will need extended dvds. I mean the studio. My guess movies part 2 and 3 will but like in fellowship there will not be much change if any.

I can't imagine there being EEs. After all, they've already stretched a 12 page book into three feature films.

Its longer then 12 pages and Tolkien had many writing on in between stuff since The Hobbit was published that took place before LOTR. I doubt they would need EE. With most likely 3 240 Minute films.

CS! had one of the tracks in full on their homepage. 'Radagast the Brown' I believe it was. I didn't really care for it.

Out of the two full-length tracks that I've heard, that's actually my favorite.

I wonder how that list has been built. My theater and none of it's sister theaters are listed at all, but we already have tickets on sale for both regular and IMAX 3D.
Furthermore, the AMCs located in Columbus are on there listed as showing in HFR, but not in IMAX, which I find unusual. It seems highly unlikely they won't show The Hobbit in their IMAX auditoriums.

Hobbit tickets are already on sale, so I recommend you check your theaters website instead of a fan site.
