Is it just me or does the production design for this so far look really exaggerated? Perhaps all this stuff will look more natural on film.

You're right, it is about time. O move this size & people have been waiting over a decade & it has been almost a year & 1 Trailer( Damn good trailer )but, only 1 so far ( I don't count Trailer2, it is just the same ,almost as trailer 1).

I can't wait for this new trailer. & hear/read the fans reactions to it. I really don't care if it is 24 /48 Frames or Imax or 3d, whatever just give me the movie ( I know that it will be great).

I agree tolkein, it will be a great dedication this week.

Meh, ill be honest wasn't all that impressive to me, doesn't seem nearly as epic as the LOTR trilogy, seemed more like a comedy then this epic fantasy film.

It gets better the more I watch it. Can't wait!

I really liked the bit where Bilbo is taking on a goblin with Sting. The look seemed different to that of the orcs in LOTR, less man-ish. Reminded me a little of Calibos from the original 'Clash of the Titans'.

They were just highlighting he comedic parts, but I'm sure it's not made to be some comedy. If anything, the comedic moments gives it more of a FOTR feel, which is a good thing because FOTR was my favorite of the LOTR trilogy. I'm very much looking forward to this, but I can't express how much I'm trying to stay away from talk on this subject until I can see it and review it for myself.

I can't wait either, I love this trailer. Love the visuals also but, it looks so clean & clear( maybe too clear) I just know that this movie will be great. I have been on pins & needles waiting on the second trailer. I will say though, I did perfer the music from the 1st trailer much better. I can't wait to hear the Howard Shoe score.

The riddle game, just great. & I agree with others I think lik with Rings the 1st movie will be more light hearted & fun, but as the story goes on it becomes darker. Ok, I am off to rewatch the trailer. I am interesting in hearing peoples thoughts on this trailer. the 1st trailer had people in tears they were so happy to finally see it & know that 10+ years &it is finally hear.

1.5 months & countiing.

As a LOTR fan (been that way even before FOTR), here are my observations.

What worked:
1) Dol Guldur looks great. I, for one, do not have a problem with Peter Jackson throwing in materials from the appendices. If they happened within the same timeline, I don't see how that is not being respectful to the source material. I look forward to seeing Dol Guldur being fully realized, not to mention (hopefully) the appearance of the Necromancer.
2) The scenery. It's Middle-earth again, guys, and it looks amazing.
3) The dwarves look like a fun bunch of people. I am buying into their personalities.
4) Martin Freeman looks amazing as Bilbo Baggins. I've never doubted him before, but this trailer solidified my initial thoughts that he was perfectly casted.
5) This line: I AM GOING ON AN ADVENTURE.
6) Gollum looks better than ever.
7) Didn't imagine the stone trolls to look like that but, it looked pretty cool anyway.
8) "How is now behind you, the world is ahead." A throwback to ROTK!

What didn't work:
1) "Why Bilbo Baggins? That is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage." Really? Gandalf wouldn't say that. I'm not buying Gandalf's explanation, and neither should Galadriel.
2) The trolls look weird. If you pause the video, they kinda look bland. I'm sure a lot can be done to their effects in the next few months but, they don't look like they've advanced much from the cave troll we saw in the first movie.
3) I like Radagast but, a sled pulled by rabbits? Jesus. What the ****. This isn't The Chronicles of Narnia, guys.

A point that is neither good nor bad: If you have read the books, you can roughly see where the first movie is going to end. That is, they are probably going to end it with
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
the Warg attack and the eagles saving them.
That doesn't seem like a particularly climatic ending but, we'll see how it goes. I don't think we won't have enough materials to spread over three movies. My problem is if the movies end abruptly. I still have my hopes up, though.

I think PJ mentioned before that the end of the first film would coincide with the barrel escape but that has probably been changed since deciding upon 3 movies.

Gandalf doesn't part from the company until after they've visited Beorn though so it must end later in the tale than you think.

The rabbit sled: atrocious. That is all.

I think it ends with the eagle rescue and the edge of Mirkwood or somewhere around the Spiders capturing the Dwarfs.
Thats area seems better then barrels floating down the river too me.
