It's the waiting that plagues me. When the first series was on, I didn't start watching until well into the second season, so I was able to watch both seasons back to back and only had to wait for the last one.

Yeah, at this year's SDCC Korra panel the creators of A:TLA said to the people that said they watched all three seasons of Avatar in two days said that that show took them six years to create. So take that at face value it will be two years from the point they were told they had gotten three more seasons to when we get to see the finished product.

Season 2 will definitely air next year. When Nick greenlit the show, they ordered two seasons. It is only now that they expanded to an extra season based on the success of the first one.

Actually, Nick ordered 12 episodes, then order 14 more when they liked what they saw in development. Then ordered 2 more "seasons" (anyone remember when a season was AT LEAST 24 episodes?) when everyone lost their minds over how good the first season was.

If I recall correctly, season 2 was announced shortly after Korra debut. Then, at Comic-Con, is when they announced a season 3.

I remember reading somewhere that the initial premiere date was bushed pack from Nov. 2011 to "Spring Time" 2012 to allow production of more episodes.

But the point's moot at this juncture. I just want more Avatar.

The good part is this: when Korra returns, we'll be getting plenty of episodes. My biggest disappointment with Book One was its short length. We no longer have to worry about that.
