No I did not. I only started reading the books because of the series. Like with LOTR, it was only because of the movie did I find out about the books.

DAMN, I sure hope we don't have to wait that long for the next book. I do realize that he is busy with the series now. But Good God, can't leave me on tender hooks here

He said it wouldn't take as long, for what that's worth.

Yeha, it looks like he is going to be Ramsey, and they're going to carry over the story with him and Theon this season, which I guess gives Theon something to do.

Dominic West was almost Mance Rayder

File this one under “The One That Got Away”. Dominic West revealed to the Huffington Post’s Maureen Ryan in a recent interview that he was offered a role in Game of Thrones, but turned it down. The role he was offered was almost certainly Mance Rayder.

On Wednesday, I interviewed West, who played the iconic cop Jimmy McNulty on “The Wire,” about the second season of the period drama “The Hour,” in which he plays newscaster Hector Madden. I asked what other kinds of roles he was interested in, and “Game of Thrones” came up in the conversation.

“I was offered something on ‘Game of Thrones’ and unfortunately, I hadn’t seen it, but my nephew and his father said, ‘Gosh, “Game of Thrones” is the only great show on!’ And I felt terrible, because I’d just turned them down,” West said.

So what part was West offered? He hasn’t read the books, so the name didn’t stick in his head. But he did say that taking the role — a substantial one and similar in stature or importance to Sean Bean’s Season 1 character Ned Stark, according to West — would have involved being “in Reykjavik for six months.” (“Game of Thrones” shoots the scenes set north of the Wall in Iceland.)

WOW, that would have been awesome if Dominic West appeared on GOT, damn that blows, i know he hasn't seen the show but i am sure he heard about it and all the praise and attention it gets, that should at least get his attention and maybe have him check out an episode before saying "No".

I'm a little surprised. He must have been living under a rock or something for the past year.

Personally I think he would've been an awkward choice. Good actor though.

Really really vague semi-spoiler

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
WHAT? There is no character we haven't met yet who comes even close to that. I guess Mance Rayder is the biggest but he's definitely a side character for Jon's storyline, definitely not a central character. If Mance Rayder is given a similar amount of screentime to the screentime Ned Stark got in Season 1 (30-40 minutes each episode) something is seriously wrong.

i'd have to agree, kinda wanted a more charismatic, younger kinda mance. but who knows, maybe with the makeup/costume it will even it out.

I also have misgivings, but I'm sure it'll work when he's ready.

WOW Diana Rigg is playing Lady Olenna, the Queen of Thorns in the Tyrell camp. Looking forward to seeing her scenes with Cersei. And Ciarin Hinds as Mance Rayder?? Hmm time to start imagining him while re-reading the books I guess. :p
