LOTR Junkie™

My LOTR Golden Years were spent on CineCon before Chau shut the forums down and on JoBlo until me and some little kid named Quentin got into it and I was banned. But after that I joined SHH and CS! and posted on SHH until I got sick of the place and came here full-time. By then the LOTR craze had already died down and everyone was gearing up for the final Star Wars prequel.

Instead of wasting your time in here, I don't know maybe you can go into a actual movie thread you like. It's not like your going to change anyone's mind about how much they suck buddy.

No. I actually came in here because I happened to see the trailer for it when I was at the cinema so I thought I'd say my opinion on it! That is what a forum is for isn't it??? Plus i was just replying to what someone had said to me. |

I have faith that Jackson would only consider doing a 3rd movie if it was quality. I don't think he'd do anything just for the sake of doing it.

The Tolkien estate owns the rights to that, so no.

The Silmarillion, or, rather, certain elements of it, could be amazing but PJ is definitely not the right man to adapt it. Its tone is wholly different from TLOTR/The Hobbit and I'd prefer somebody else took over with PJ acting as executive producer or something. And if what Psyk says is correct then Tolkien's estate probably wouldn't sell the rights...though money talks so who knows.
What could be next in line to be adapted is 'The Children of Hurin', which was released a few years ago and is an expansion of (imo) the best part of The Sil. I remember reading that the film rights to that were purchased when it was published, I think by WB. As for all this 3rd film talk...yeah, it sounds like a really bad idea. They are dipping into the appendices already, which is fair enough, but a lot of that is just descriptive stuff and there isn't much in the way of dialogue. Plus a fair portion of it refers to events after the War of the Ring, so they'd be adding way more "new" material to it than I'd be comfortable with. |

The very thought of not getting to see Ungoliant vs. Morgoth & The Balrogs in all its IMAX glory makes me hate them immensely.

Jackson Plans a 3rd Hobbit Film. Its likely going to be the last bit of film leading into Fellowship OF The Ring. People keep saying the Hobbit isn't long enough for 3 films. But I am also sure there must be some material to use because with Tolkien and Jackson he just doesn't make stuff up. If there is enough for a 3rd act then there must be a tolkien written somewhere reason.

They feel like the movies did not do the books justice, and that they changed way too many things about the book. I can't exactly blame them, I suppose, but they need to loosen up a little.

The failure of the animated adaptations played a big part.
