Default Sergio Leone's Godfather

I recently found out that Sergio Leone originally was up to direct the godfather film. How do you think his version would of been? Do you think we would of gotten a part 2 and 3 or just a part 2, or maybe a stand alone film in the godfather?

Go check out Once Upon A Time in America, Leone's own gangster movie. That should give you an idea.

Leone was offered Godfather, but turned it down. A decision he regretted for the rest of his life. He directed Duck, You Sucker (a/k/a Fistful of Dynamite) instead. Which is a great movie in its own right.

As for "... in America", it's a masterpiece, but nothing like Godfather except for the romanticism of the mob. I don't think it provides us with an idea of what his Godfather would have been like. Thematically, they're very different.

That would have been different
I like the first two as is though - the third one lacked the flavor of the first two

With the exception of Vito's backstory, the 2nd film is original material, so let's be happy we got Coppola.

^ You do not think Leone could of made 2 classic Godfather movies like Coppola? And I bet Leone did regret it, Godfather was a great concept, something I think Leone could of done wonders with like Coppola did.

Godfather 2 is a masterpiece and very much a Coppola creation. I wouldn't trade that.

Agreed. It be interesting to see what Leone would have done, but I love what Coppola did and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I would not either, just thought what if Leone did it instead, would it still be classic films or not.

What if Leone did Back to the Future. One has to wonder...

Or maybe Ghostbusters.

Lol, I do not think he was up to direct those films like he was for the Godfather.

Leone's Once Upon A Time in America is a masterpiece. It had a great cast, unforgettable visual style and just a well-told story in a though-provoking way.

I am actually glad he never got to make The Godfather, because now we have a whole collection of the greatest gangster films from different directors, including the genre's maestros - both Coppola and Leone.

Do you think Leone would have some western elements in his Godfather films?

Leone Is one of my favorite filmmakers. It would of been interesting to see what he would have done with the film. Though the Godfather is already a masterpiece.
