Sandler has plenty of movies I like, just none in at least the past five years (other than Funny People). This looks to continue that trend. No thanks.

Has nine1wing been banned yet, or what? Starting a thread on That's My Boy seems like enough of a reason. Right alongside the insults to masterchief's family, it only seems appropriate.

It's pointless questioning which Oscars That's My Boy will win when the obvious answer is "all of them".

That's My Boy - Review
![]() Adam Sandler has run a wide gamut of films in his career, and many people have counted him out, even referring to him as a box office repellant. The sad truth is that a once-great actor who brought us some solid comedy hits started signing up for anything and everything, and the quality waned along with the crowds. However, a few gems showed up in his repertoire, mainly dramatic pieces like Reign Over Me and Punch Drunk Love. Whatever source he went to in order to make those performances so grandiose, it seems he has tapped into it again here with That's My Boy. Boy is a tale that depicts an every day kid in school getting involved with one of his teachers. When she ends up pregnant, he ends up a dad, and with the mom in jail, he is given the taxing burden of being a father while trying to juggle school and maintain an income for himself and his kid. Like most teenagers, Sandler's character manages to make a few faux pas and alienates himself from his son. Years later, he finds himself reunited with his grown up son, played expertly by Andy Samberg. In awkwardly trying to reunite with Samberg, Sandler doesn't just tickle our funny bones, he shows us a side of humanity often overlooked, though it happens each and every day - probably in your own neighbourhood, or with a family you know. To say Boy is a comedy is rather misleading. The parallels between what one wants for their lives and what actually transpires due to one's humanity and choosing to do what feels right in the moment versus what is better in the long run is depicted here in a way that is nothing short of tragic. This is exasperated by here is a pain in Sandler's eyes that he manages to wear throughout. I laughed a lot at his character, but I was crying on the inside as well. To see such a sweet angelic face on the screen (from Samberg's character) affected by Sandler's less-than-respectable actions really moves you and touches to the core. Throughout the film, the father/son relationship is explored to depths few other movies have dared to. Movies are a way of escape, but Boy goes for the guts by taking a more realistic turn. I think, honestly, any actor other than Sandler would have mucked this up. There's just a sincere honesty to him that really tugs at the heart strings. All this talk of Oscars isn't far off the mark - I'd be appalled to see this passed over for, at the very least, Actor/Film/Supporting Actor of the year nominations. 10/10

Wow, nice review, i,ll admit the best man gift was sad, well not sad but u know what i mean. Like i said before this movie obviously isnt meant for everyone because of some of the raunchy scenes, but its still a very good movie but thats coming from me, but for people like i believe it was cooper who gave it an f and this isnt a mock but thats coming from someone who would rather watch titanic, or eternal sunshine, instead of dumb and dumber then yes hes gonna really despise this movie. Sorry about the poll when i made thus thread it was more of a yeah, this one is actually really funny. On a side note, i also though his movie just go with it was pretty funny as well, him aniston, kidman and lol dave matthews had some pretty funny scenes.

I thought of That's My Boy as more of an existential tragicomedy. But yes, I agree nevertheless, Daniel, it's an A++.

It takes on whole new meaning if you play it along with Dark Side of the Moon.

My question for nice1wang is whether he'd still love the movie if Kate Winslet was in it. Also, since you're obviously under 17, which of your fathers did you go to the movie with? Will we get to read his opinion too?
