well, it was a good try don. you tried domestic life, being faithful to your wife, marrying an independent woman, it just didn't make you happy. don being the beast to megans beauty was pretty cool (if, again, not very subtle, i have to say the writing has been rather blatant and not as cool and calm as previous seasons), and he is now back to the old don come next season.

peggy makes virginia slims, that is a way for them to write her out of the show completely though, make her a success and never see her again, minus the last episode of the season or something like that.

The moment she said she was going to Virginia, I knew what account she had. My aunty damn near lived off that brand for 30 years, lol. Still though, the finale just didn't sit right with me. Certain things just felt, forced. Maybe I'm not saying it right. I don't know.

I thought it was a good episode, but very meandering and not exactly reminiscent of a classic Mad Men finale. Season 1 had the wheel pitch and Peggy giving birth, Season 2 was the end of the California trip, Season 3 had the creation of SCDP and the end of Don and Betty's marriage, and Season 4 had Don suddenly proposing to Megan at Disneyland. This had... what, exactly? SCDP adding a second floor to their office and the return of the old Don? It was a good episode, don't get me wrong, but I guess I expected more considering how focused and excellent the season had become over the past few weeks with Peggy leaving the company, Lane's suicide, Joan being whored out, etc.

On that note, I really hope Peggy isn't being written out of the series for good... but it seems like that was probably it. On the one hand, she's an incredibly strong and independent woman and throwing her back into Don's waiting arms would negate a part of that, but writing her out makes the show lose one of its best and most interesting characters. That being said, up until she actually decided to leave she hadn't been given much to do this year. I kind of feel like Weiner ran out of things for her to do.

I can't remember the last time a show that was still at the height of its popularity wrote out three of its major characters - Peggy, Lane, and probably Betty (she may still come back here and there, but there's no way she can ever be a big part of the show again).

Weak finale; too bad.

Always nice to see Pete get beat up, though.

The way I see it, Lane's suicide was the true climax of the season, it was so big that it needed this slower denoument to collect itself rather than move on to the next major revelation.

The House M.D. season three finale comes to mind, but that didn't last long and I doubt this will either. In fact I wouldn't be shocked if the show keeps on following Peggy and her agency, almost splitting the show's focus.

I would be shocked if it did follow Peggy and her agency. Don and Peggy's exchange about seeing her successful without him, and her telling him to keep her on his call list pretty much told me that we will continue to see Don's story unfold, and Peggy will not be in the picture.

I wouldn't have thought Don would go see Casino Royale. Speaking of which, was happy to see You Only Live Twice as the song to go out on. Don's clearly on his second life now. And perhaps looking a bit too deeply, a quote from the book:

"You only live twice:
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face"

Don certainly did that.

I agree. The show is seen through Don's eyes and really only follows people pertinent to his story. If Peggy isn't a part of that anymore, I would bet against her remaining on the show.

Trying to catch up as we speak, I'm on episode 11 right now. I have to say, this has been a phenomenal season thus far.

I'll agree that to some degree this season has not been as subtle, though I also feel it's been more resonant.

I can't believe how much I miss this show, like actually feeling sad when a season ends.
I might have to re-watch on netflix.

elizabeth moss says peggy will be back next season.

http://theclicker.today.msnbc.msn.co...l-be-back?lite

but i think it will only be in passing, just like in the last episode.

I don't know if I'm just digging into something that isn't there, but in the last episode, when Peggy and Don are sitting down in the theater together... does it seem like that scene held a little more importance than we realized? I was thinking about them bringing back the 'Old Don' or that last scene and just the last scene with Peggy too, got me to thinking up one of those 'what if' scenarios in which she and Don had sex in that theater. If it's just me diving into something that isn't there, forget what I said. It's just a thought.

I could see the show pulling somethign like that, even between those two...but not at a theater.

I think the series should end in the present with a very old Don on the internet trying to get past pop-up ads.

"God dammit, the thing-...DAMMIT! I just CLICKED the...god dammit!"

For 15 minutes.

This is some funny stuff:

http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=793866

Model sues 'Mad Men' for using image in credits
March 4, 2013, 11:22 AM EST
WENN

Sixties fashion model Gita Hall May is taking the producers of TV drama "Mad Men" to court over the use of her image in the show's opening credits.

A sketched copy of a Hall May photo from a decades-old Richard Avedon Revlon ad appears on the side of a building at the beginning of the show, and she insists she never gave anyone permission to use it.

Now 79, the former model filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Friday, stating she would never agree to allow her image "to be cropped from the photo, in secret, and inserted as a key element in the title sequence of a cable television series, without her consent and for commercial purposes."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is demanding compensation for "the value her image contributed to the property."

Hall May reveals she only became aware of the use of her image last year when she saw "Mad Men" for the first time on DVD.

I'm debating if I have time to rewatch the entire series before the 7th.

Speaking of the 7th, that's a day after my birthday. The lady and I are spending the weekend in Madison.
