During the events of the "Dark Reign", Norman Osborn created a new identity, the Iron Patriot (an amalgam of Captain America and Iron Man), to cement his standing as a hero. As the Iron Patriot, he utilized a version of Iron Man's armor. The armor featured superhuman strength, enhanced durability via a pliable crystalline material with a molecular structure that can collimate into super-hard planes upon the application of an electrical field, flight, magnetic impact blasts, heat seeking missiles, miniaturized lasers, flamethrowers, and a communications system housed in his helmet which allowed him to interface with any U.S.-controlled satellite or computer network. While the original Iron Man armor utilized repulsor technology, Osborn's design does not; Stark destroyed all but one repulsor, and stated that "Oz is too stupid" to make his own repulsor-based weapons system. The star shaped Uni Beam projector on his chest, because of its shape, also has a less powerful output than that of the original Iron Man model.[59]

Maybe they are taking the idea but Pierce the main Villain in this is the Iron Patriot. The suit spells not Iron Man because his usually is shinier

It said on the front page it was some other guy who is playing Iron Patriot, Guy Pearce is indeed the Main Villain, but he is playing some other character.

This is truly bizarre news.

The way that the rights to Marvel characters is split up is really weird and interesting. So Sony owns the rights to Norman Osborn (and his first alterego, the Green Goblin) but because his second identity was an Iron Man homage Marvel owns the rights to his second alterego? Despite the fact that Osborn was the only Iron Patriot?

The Iron Patriot is probably gonna be the government's Iron Man. Remember in part 2 they were trying desperately to get an Iron Man suit.

It's rumoured that Kingsley is indeed the Mandarin but will only appear sparingly, possibly setting it up for Iron Man 4.

How exactly it will figure in the story remains to be seen, but leaked on-set images have shown that it will play a role somewhere along the line.

Can't say I particularly enjoyed IM2 that much, and I thought TIH was awful, so I don't think they're perfect by any means. I still like the efforts they're putting into their IPs though. More than DC anyway.

I live in Durham and tried to get to Raliegh when they were filming there, but couldn't. I don't know if they're still there.

I used to rate the movies in order chronological order, Iron Man was the best and Cap the worse. Avengers broke that.
