So I wanted to bring back a couple of the old battle tournament threads and the current A vs X Marvel has running kinda inspired this one but I thought I'd throw in the JLA as well to make it interesting.
A few caveats: This is a 64 person tournament which will end up being 5 rounds. Battles will be posted 2 at a time for the first few rounds and will run as long as they need to. I usually appreciate if people post their reasoning when voting... it's just more interesting. Consider all battles to be kinda battleworld style where the two opponents are suddenly facing off against each other, the terrain itself may vary but I'll leave that up to imagination. I've taken a large selection of characters from different era's of these teams histories, I'll note the power sets I was thinking of when I put the character down and any special notes (for example if I were to use Nova I'd note whether it was before or after Annihilation so you know if he has full use of the Worldmind or not) Characterization is important to consider but nobody just plain gives up and refuses to fight. All the matchups were set by using a random number generator so while there are some very cool ones there are some oddball ones or some squash matches as well. I will abstain my vote until last to break any ties - if my vote will create a tie I will not count it although I'll still post it. LET THE BATTLES BEGIN!!!

ROUND 1 BATTLE 1
CAPTAIN AMERICA Steve Rogers Abilities: Captain America has no superhuman powers, although as a result of the Super-Soldier Serum and "Vita-Ray" treatment, he is transformed from a frail young man into a "perfect" specimen of human development and conditioning. Captain America's strength, endurance, agility, speed, reflexes, durability, and healing are at the zenith of natural human potential. Rogers' body regularly replenishes the super-soldier serum; it does not wear off. The formula enhances all of his metabolic functions and prevents the build-up of fatigue poisons in his muscles, giving him endurance far in excess of an ordinary human being. This accounts for many of his extraordinary feats, including bench pressing 1200 pounds (545 kg) and running a mile (1.6 km) in 73 seconds (49 mph/78 kph). Rogers cannot become intoxicated by alcohol, drugs, or impurities in the air and is immune to terrestrial diseases.[citation needed] He is also highly resistant to hypnosis or gases that could limit his focus. Rogers' battle experience and training make him an expert tactician and an excellent field commander, with his teammates frequently deferring to his orders in battle. Rogers' reflexes and senses are also extraordinarily keen. He has blended judo, western boxing, kickboxing, and gymnastics into his own unique fighting style and is a master of multiple martial arts. Years of practice with his indestructible shield make him able to aim and throw it with almost unerring accuracy. He is regarded by other skilled fighters as one of the best hand-to-hand combatants in the Marvel Universe. He is an expert in combat strategy, survival, acrobatics, military strategy, piloting, and demolitions. vs. CABLE Nathan Summers Abilities: Cable was born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, however, both were limited by his need to restrain his techno-organic infection and his powers were negligible compared to his more traditional fighting skills. His techno-organic body parts possess enhanced strength and durability, and his techno-organic eye gives him enhanced eyesight, allowing him to see farther than a normal human and in the infrared spectrum. He is also able to interface his techno-organic body parts with machinery, using them to hack into computers, open electronic locks, and travel through time. ROUND 1 BATTLE 2 ICE Tora Olafsdotter ![]() Abilities: In addition to being a proficient hand-to-hand combatant, Ice can project in various forms quantities of ice and snow through her hands just enough to down an opponent. She can create platforms of ice upon which she can skate. Ice's powers seem incredibly destructive, expelling people from the building she's in as she awakens with bright white eyes, and conjuring a massive icy figure before her as well as controlling the weather to some degree, by causing the beginning of a blizzard far stronger than those known in that area. vs. EMMA FROST Emma Frost ![]() Abilities: Emma Frost is a mutant of enormous telepathic ability, and is also capable of transforming into an organic diamond state with enhanced strength and durability which suppresses her telepathy. Since her introduction, Emma Frost's primary mutant power has been telepathy. She is capable of extraordinary psionic feats, including the telepathic standards of: broadcasting and receiving thoughts, mind-control, altering perceptions and memories, psychic shielding, astral projection, mind switching, brain engram modification, mental sedation, and induction of mental pain via touch. She is also able to boost or activate a mutant's powers through access of their brain's neurological pathways, and can communicate across global distances unaided. At the moment of the destruction of Genosha, Frost manifested a secondary mutation giving her the ability to transform her body into organic diamond. In this form, Frost is translucent and retains mobility while being almost invulnerable, and able to support incredible amounts of weight. Her diamond form was at least strong enough for her to tear out of bonds and, in a single punch, send Lady Mastermind soaring across a room and straight through a wall. Emma's diamond body is virtually tireless as she does not produce fatigue poisons and has no need for water nor food. She is also numbed from emotion, pain and empathy, impervious to cold, and resistant to heat in this form. Despite this high level of invulnerability, her diamond form has a single molecular flaw, which if exploited – such as being shot with a diamond bullet – can cause her body to shatter. Though the exact location of the flaw in her diamond body has not been stated outright, clues point to it being located in between her eyes. FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

cap may have never lost a fight, well sorta, but he would lose to cable. the guy can travel through time. keep on fighting cap again and again, knowing his weaknesses and strengths. he is an advanced super soldier. this is a terrible first round match up for cap, just terrible.
has to go to cable. and emma frost for obvious reasons.

Cable is a tough nut to crack, but it also depends upon the parameters of his time travel capabilities - I'm not as familiar with him as I am Cap - but it seems Cable at different times has had power restrictions of sorts

I vote Cap - While the time travel is a point I don`t think in the confines of the battle rules it really helps him... I`d consider that prep time myself.
And Emma.... because well.... Ice is cool and all but Emma is Emma. She wouldn`t hesitate to just mind lock her. Captain America sends Cable back to the Future 6-1 Emma Frost puts Ice in the cooler 6-0 Next rounds in a few minutes.

ROUND 1 BATTLE 3
FIRE Beatriz Bonilla da Costa ![]() Abilities: Able to completely turn into a being of green plasma, in which form she can fly and throw devastating blasts, similar to the Human Torch. Solid objects could pass completely through her form without causing injury. Beatriz is also a skilled investigator and espionage agent, and in the latter context was considered a valuable asset by Checkmate chief Amanda Waller for her ability and willingness to kill in order to complete missions (unlike many of her contemporaries who maintain a no-kill policy). vs. VISION No Alias ![]() Abilities: The Solar Jewel on the Vision's forehead absorbs ambient solar energy to provide the needed power for him to function, and he is also capable of discharging this energy as optic beams; with this, he can fire beams of infrared and microwave radiation. In extreme cases he can discharge this same power through the Solar Jewel itself which amplifies its destructive effects considerably, albeit at the cost of losing most of his resources. The Vision also possesses the ability to manipulate his density, which at its lowest allows flight and a ghostly, phasing intangibility, and at its heaviest provides superhuman strength, immovability, and a diamond-hard near invulnerability. The Vision is capable of reaching a density ten times greater than that of depleted uranium. The Vision often uses his ability to alter his density against foes, by phasing an intangible hand through them and then partially re-materializing it—a process he describes as "physical disruption." This effect typically causes great pain and results in incapacitation. Being an artificial life-form/android of sorts, the Vision possesses multiple superhuman senses—as well as superhuman stamina, reflexes, speed, agility, and strength (even without being at high density). The Vision was trained in unarmed combat by Captain America, and is an expert in the combat use of his superhuman powers. The Vision is an expert on his own construction and repair, and is a highly skilled tactician and strategist. The Vision also possesses superhuman analytical capabilities, and has the ability to process information and make calculations with superhuman speed and accuracy. ROUND 1 BATTLE 4 BLACK KNIGHT Dane Whitman ![]() Abilities: The Black Knight was originally a normal athletic human being with no superhuman powers. As part of his new role as the Pendragon, however, Whitman has gained minor mystical abilities, such as the ability to see through mystical illusions by looking "past the mundane." Whitman is an excellent swordsman whose skills have allowed him to best the Swordsman in combat. He is also an excellent fighter in general, able to hold his own against such skilled fighters as Captain America and Wolverine. He is also an expert horseman. Additionally, Whitman started out as a scientist, though specializing in physics (having earned a Master's degree in physics), he is proficient in a wide array of advanced sciences and technologies, including genetic and mechanical engineering; and continues to approach things from a scientific perspective more often than not, despite his ties to the world of magic. He has also demonstrated good leadership skills as leader of both the Avengers and Ultraforce. He has strong strategic and tactical skills. vs. GAMBIT Remy LeBeau Abilities: Gambit is a mutant who has the power to take the potential energy stored in an object and convert it to kinetic energy thus “charging” that item with explosive results. He prefers to charge smaller objects, such as his ever-present playing cards, as the time required to charge them is greatly reduced and they are much easier for him to throw. The only real limitation to this ability is the time required to charge the object: the larger it is the more time it takes to charge. Most charging takes place through direct skin contact. The power of his explosions is dependent on the mass of the object he is charging, for example, a charged playing card explodes with the force of a grenade. Gambit can also use his powers to accelerate an object's kinetic energy instead of converting its potential energy, for example, he can charge his Bo staff with enough power to level a house. Gambit's ability to tap energy also grants him superhuman physical abilities (speed, reflexes and reactions, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance), as his body constantly generates bio-kinetic energy and so is perfectly constructed for constant motion. This gives him an added edge that he has used to his advantage by developing a unique acrobatic fighting style. He also has the ability to create static, because of the charged potential energy always in his body, that shields his mind from detection and intrusion by even the most powerful telepaths. The shield has the added effect of destabilizing touch-based powers. Gambit also possesses a hypnotic charm that allows him to exert a subtle influence over sentient beings, leading them to believe what he says and agree with his suggestions. He is extensively trained in martial arts, particularly French kick-boxing or Savate and the staff style art Bojutsu. He is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, applying street-fighting techniques and acrobatics. Gambit is a skilled card-thrower, so he throws his charged playing cards at opponents with great accuracy. He also excels in all aspects of thievery, as he was adopted by the patriarch of a Thieves Guild. FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

vision is damn near unstoppable. can change his density so beatriz has no advantage. vision walks through to the next round.
with gambit and the black knight, it is power vs preparation, and i think power will win out. gambit smashes him.

I too think Vision would just walk all over Fire, as much as she's been displayed as a potential powerhouse lately her powerset just wouldn't beat Vision unless she got in a few lucky shots.
I am going to throw a vote towards Black Knight though, I've always viewed Dane as an underated character and when I first viewed this matchup it was a tossup to me. So really I guess it's a pity vote in some ways. Captain America over Cable 6-1 Emma Frost over Ice 6-0 Vision over Fire 5-0 Gambit over Black Knight 3-1 New battle in a few.

MARTIAN MANHUNTER Jonn J'onzz ![]() Abilities: Superhuman strength, flight, invulnerability, vortex breath, and "Martian Vision" (a term designating both the ability to see through solid objects and the ability to project beams of energy from his eyes). Limited form of telekinesis, Shapeshifting, J'onn can become intangible, passing harmlessly through solid objects. He can also render himself invisible. He lost the ability to use his other powers while invisible during the Silver Age. He is a powerful telepath, capable of both perceiving the thoughts of others and of projecting his own thoughts. J'onn is also capable of absorbing energy projectiles such as beams and other energy waves. He has demonstrated regenerative abilities, once able to regenerate his entire body from only his severed head, but with great strain. Aside from his superhuman powers, the Manhunter is also a skilled and very capable detective. vs. WOLVERINE Logan/James Howlett ![]() Abilities: Mutant healing factor, that regenerates damaged or destroyed tissues of his body Skeleton reinforced with the virtually indestructible metal adamantium. Animal-like adaptations of his body, including pronounced, and sharp fang-like canines and three retractable claws housed within each forearm. These claws with their adamantium coating, can cut substances as durable as most metals, wood, and some varieties of stone. They can also be used to block attacks or projectiles, as well as dig into surfaces allowing Wolverine to climb structures. Due to their coating, his claws can cut almost any known solid material. The adamantium also weights his blows, increasing the effectiveness of his offensive capabilities Wolverine's healing factor also affects a number of his physical attributes by increasing them to superhuman levels. His stamina is sufficiently heightened to the point he can exert himself for numerous hours, even after exposure to powerful tranquilizers. Wolverine's agility and reflexes are also enhanced to levels that are beyond the physical limits of the finest human athlete. Due to his healing factor's constant regenerative qualities, he can push his muscles beyond the limits of the human body without injury.This, coupled by the constant demand placed on his muscles by over one hundred pounds of adamantium, grants him some degree of superhuman strength. Wolverine's senses of sight, smell, and hearing are all superhumanly acute. Due to a combination of his healing factor and high level psionic shields implanted by Professor Xavier, Wolverine's mind is highly resistant to telepathic assault and probing. During his time in Japan and other countries, Wolverine becomes a master of virtually all forms of martial arts and is experienced in virtually every fighting style on Earth. Wolverine will sometimes lapse into a "berserker rage" while in close combat. In this state he lashes out with the intensity and aggression of an enraged animal and is even more resistant to psionic attack. ROUND 1 BATTLE 6 BLACK CANARY Dinah Lance Abilities: Possesses a "Canary Cry" – a high-pitched, sonic scream which she can deploy to shatter objects and incapacitate her opponents. When Canary is close enough she can unleash her cry to literally destroy an opponent but this is an absolute last resort. Capable of not only creating sonic blasts, but also could generate an ultrasonic attack, which renders everyone within an ear range unconscious Black Canary is extremely proficient in the various styles of martial arts, and is among the world's best fighters. Moreover, Dinah possesses uncanny reflexes, on many occasions showing the ability to catch or destroy arrows in flight. Dinah is also an expert motorcycle rider. Dinah is a strong leader and strategic thinker she also possesses great detective skills. vs. SPIDER-MAN Peter Parker ![]() Abilities: Ability to cling to walls, superhuman strength, a sixth sense ("spider-sense") that alerts him to danger, perfect balance and equilibrium, as well as superhuman speed, strength and agility. Brilliant, Parker excels in applied science, chemistry, and physics. Mechanical web-shooters eject an advanced adhesive, releasing web-fluid in a variety of configurations, including a single rope-like strand to swing from, a net to bind enemies, a single strand for yanking opponents into objects, strands for whipping foreign objects at enemies, and a simple glob to foul machinery or blind an opponent. He can also weave the web material into simple forms like a shield, a spherical protection or hemispherical barrier, a club, or a hang-glider wing. FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
