How I Met Your Mother

We don't have a thread for this show? Weird. Anyway, I started watching it on Netflix. I just finished season one. And... it's pretty good. The main character is a little annoying, but the supporting cast is strong and the writing is pretty decent. Overall, it's a cute show. Granted, I'm justing basing this on the first season. But I'll keep watching and see if it gets better, worse, or stays the same.

I really like it. There's a great theme of storytelling throughout the series. Not just the main storyline of finding the mother (which has screeched to a stop), but in the episode narratives. They get creative. And it's just funny.

I feel bad for his kids. Why can't he get to the point? LOL. And I also don't understand how that guy turns into Bob Saget.

Because the big twist at the end is going to be that they are two completely different stories. We'll see Bob Sagat talking to Michele, Stephanie and the other one in the series finale. Ted will die.

Weird, I have this playing in a window next to this one. Currently on Season 3, Episode 6.

I had to take a break somewhere in season 2 because the show gets a little repetitive, but there are a lot of genuine laugh out loud moments. I do have a hard time watching Neil Patrick Harris hit on women because I know he's into dudes and it doesn't make sense, but he's still hilarious. I think his "origin" story was my favourite episode.

Love this show. Also think it's funny that all the websites that they mention in it are actually accessible, e.g. http://www.theslapbetcountdown.com/ (not the most animated example, granted, but the only one I have bookmarked, haha).

I actually got into it halfway through season 6 I think, I'd watch bits before that here and there but for whatever reason it didn't click with me until recently. A month or two ago one of the Freeview channels in the UK started showing an episode a day starting from the very beginning so I'm currently up to episode 3 of season 4.

NPH & Segel are what hold it all together, for me.

Yeah, weird, it's like he's an actor playing a role that's different from himself. Not like...Christian Bale.

Season 2 is so much better. Ted is no longer the center of attention. And I have a new favorite episode, the Robin Sparkle one.

Other than Barney's origin story, it's the only episode that made me laugh out loud. This show is great when Ted isn't the focus of the episode.

Now that I'm done with season 2, I see what you mean. The best example is the episode where Ted misses his flight to Chicago.

He has a job interview in Chicago but misses his flight because of Barney but then starts to blame everybody else as well but ultimately realizes that it all started with that 1939 penny he found on the subway. Then, Bob Saget says it was destiny because he got to stay in New York and eventually meet the kids mother. It was a strangely uplifting episode.

I'm by the season 3 episode with Sarah Chalke and Britney Spears as cheap publicity. So far, my favorite season 3 episode is the threesome one.

Yes, the belt. Although the ending was a major cop-out. Also, I love all the Freaks and Geeks cast members making guest appearances. Although I've noticed they never share screen time with Jason Segal.

The thing is, I don't know what Christian Bale is like outside of his characters. Neill Patrick Harris is attracted to men, and everything his character embodies is centered around womanizing and making gross misogynistic remarks about them. To me, knowing that he isn't attracted to women makes everything about his character seem completely fake to me. It's just a feeling of believability I cannot associate with him playing the character of Barney.
