Default Cabin in the Woods: Spoiler-Free Review Thread

There's really no way to review "The Cabin in the Woods" without giving away more than I care to. Just believe the hype. This film is a wholly original take on the horror genre and is essential viewing for anyone who loves movies enough to join a message board to talk about them. It is especially essential to those who love the horror genre. As someone who is always craving a new great horror film, my appetite is fully satisfied by "The Cabin in the Woods." The third act, in my opinion, can be compared in greatness and unexpectedness to even "Se7en." Please just go see this movie.

I swear I'm not affiliated with anyone involved in making this film. I just really, really found this film to be ****ing great.

10/10

I'm really excited for this as I'm a big Whedon fan. I'll admit though that I was a bit hesitant until the reviews started pouring in... mostly because of how long it sat on the shelf.

I had some friends see this here in town during the SXSW film fest and they said it was great. I've been excited for some time for this, especially with all the crap horror films we've been getting for the past few years.

I saw this movie a week ago (got to meet Drew Goddard at the screening). I completely agree with Elmo's review. The movie is incredible. I highly recommend going in spoiler-free. It is such a unique and well written horror film, that you want to go in with as little information as you can. I'd give the movie a 9/10

An article I read a few months ago warned to avoid the trailer for Cabin, and I took the advice to heart. Today I discovered that the movie is well worth the wait. This is the best horror movie I've seen in recent memory. I can't begin to understand why the studio has kept it in limbo for so many years. It's a masterpiece!

The horror genre is really not my favorite as a lot of them just seem so cliche. This film is the best horror film I've seen in such a long time.

I loved it. My favorite movie of the year (granted I haven't seen many). I recommend it for anyone really.

And I can't really call it a horror movie, I know parts of it were, but overall I wouldn't. I don't even know what genre to classify it as.

Regardless, 9/10

I'm not too sure what the premise is about, I've been trying to stay away from any spoiler reviews. From what I do know, I'm thinking it might be more than your average horror movie. It sounds like a safe bet. It definitely got great feedback from the festival circuits, plus it got a 93% from Rotten Tomatoes. I'm planning on checking it out tonight.

This is one of the most original and thought provoking horror films I've ever seen. This takes the self-awareness of films like the Scream series and takes them to places I couldn't have even thought of. This is fantastic.

Yeah, this was a blast. Great movie, and the best out of the horror genre in a long time... especially the last 30 minutes or so.

eh..maybe I'm just getting too old for most movies nowadays. I found it 'interesting' but not in a refreshing sort of way. The opening credit background images (and something else I can't mention because spoiler tags doesn't appear to be working for me) gave too much away for me and I figured out what was going on before the last 45 mins or so.

It seemed like alot of Generation-Y/Z movies/entertainment today: Use all of the previous generations pop culture and references but in a seemingly new and/or snarky sort of way which unfortunately comes out as a sort of unsophisticated mishmash.

Would have liked it if it more if it were presented in a bit more serious and suspenseful way and more was hidden from us until the end.

Also, IMO it didn't earn its R-rating.

Other thoughts: 1) The chicks weren't hot enough. :-/ 2) Questionable pain responses and tolerances from seriously injured characters. :-\ 3) Wasn't really funny wasn't really scary...kinda reminds me of Saturday 14th 4) 'Shaggy' isn't all there without Scooby-Doo :o)

Ugh...hopefully Prometheus won't be as disappointing as this was for me. When will I learn not to listen to critical or popular acclaim nowadays...tch..

My Score: 6 (Mostly for its efforts)

Well it's definitely not like other horror movies. Most are pretty stupid and forgettable. This one would probably surprise you.

I'm not sure how well it will stand up on repeat viewings, but it was a lot of fun the first time around. As has been said before, the last quarter of the film was pretty awesome. However I feel like in repeat viewings, it will probably get a little tedious waiting until the final moments of the movie, which is where the movie really begins to shine as something special.

Having said that, I was thinking (at least up until the final moment) that this would have the potential for a franchise where you could do almost anything you wanted, since any creature creation could be utilized. I was actually hoping more than just the zombies would fester up throughout the cabin parts of the movie. It was great to see them finally unleashed in the end, but it would have been cool if just other monsters in general began to surface in their stay at the location

Either way, the whole of the film is still very original, and I did enjoy the humor.

Watching it this Friday! I'm not a fan of horror either, but I'm giving this a shot only because Whedon's name is attached.
