Bobby Farrelly (Hall Pass) revealed to Moviehole that a sequel to Dumb & Dumber may be possible with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprising their roles.

"[Dumb & Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they'll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I've long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We're starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we'll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel."

The 1994 original, which Bobby co-directed with his brother Peter, was made for just $17 million and grossed $247.3 million worldwide. A prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, was released in 2003 and earned just $39.3 million worldwide.

Equal parts unexpected and awesome. I never saw the prequel spin-off, and I never will, but there is surely no way in which this could fail.

A little too late for a sequel. Jim Carrey has lost his mojo. He's never gonna be as funny as he was in the `90s. Even now when I see him in interviews I'm like, "what the hell happened to this guy?"

Carrey just never evolved as a comedian. He still does the same goofy faces and same impersonations that he did 20 years ago. I saw him on Inside the Actor's Studio not to long ago...aye carumba!

However, I loved Dumb and Dumber growing up, and I'm one of those people who can quote it almost line for line. If the Farrellys can come up with something thats' even close, I would be very interested, and that's coming from someone who hates most if not all comedies nowadays.

Oh, and if any movie stars are reading this, the same goes for you too Adam Sandler. It's one thing to watch a 25 year old act retarded and have a couple laughs. It's another thing to watch a 45 year old act just as retarded, it's just not funny. And stop pretending to be the playboy who gets all the hot chicks in your movies. Woody Allen could pull it off because he's at least a good filmmaker. You're just reliving your fantasies.

Yeah Sandler still does films were he is a complete moron, not cool see dude in his 40s acting like that on screen cause its not as entertaining. Plus I agree Sandler not be banging those type chicks in his flick.

I agree with the sentiment that this should've been done back when Carrey was still in his prime, you know, wayyyyy back when people were BEGGING for a sequel, I know I was, the first one is an instant damn classic and one of the greatest comedies to have ever been filmed

they're going to have to come up with another golen nugget if a sequel 20 years later is going to be worth watching

Speaking with Coming Soon, Carrey revealed that his future films could have a decidedly retro vibe:

“We’re talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about,” Carrey teased when asked what he might follow Penguins with. “There’s Bruce Almighty and we’re talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber.”

While the idea of another Bruce Almighty has seemed remote since the expensive, Carrey-less sequel, Evan Almighty, scuffled at the box office, this isn’t the first time a Dumb and Dumber sequel has been mentioned. During the press rounds for Hall Pass in February, writer/director Bobby Farrelly revealed he and brother Peter had been thinking about continuing that story:

The difference between Ace Ventura and AV2 is night and day. The first one was original and funny, the second one was completely different and overblown to the point of annoyance. AV2 was horrible.

From the frontpage, it says that a writer has been hired to do the sequel, and it also says that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels might return I liked the first one, so to me this is good news.

Now that they have wrapped their dream project The Three Stooges after a decade of trying, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are moving forward with another project they’ve long wanted to do: a second installment of the New Line 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber. The intention is to bring back Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, the lovable dimwitted pals with big hearts and small brains. Sean Anders and John Morris have been hired to write the script. They co-wrote the Anders-directed Sex Drive and just co-directed the Adam Sandler comedy I Hate You Dad. The hope is for the Farrelly Brothers to direct this next.

While Carrey isn’t a big sequel guy, he dropped hints about the movie while he was out promoting Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Nothing much has happened until now because the Farrellys were engaged on The Three Stooges and Anders and Morris were shooting the Sandler comedy. Now, things are heating up.

Back in April, Peter Farrelly told us that Dumb & Dumber 2 was set to shoot in September with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprising their roles from the hit 1994 comedy.

Now Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Carrey has exited the project.

"According to sources, Carrey grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project," said the program.

They reached out to Carrey's publicist, who provided this quote from the actor: "I would have thought Dumb and Dumber Two was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title."

With Carrey gone, do you think there's any point in moving forward with the project?
