This may have been asked before, but would people be up in arms if Peter Jackson replaced Ian Holm as a young Bilbo finding the ring in the FOTR prologue with Martin Freeman's version of young Bilbo? Also, if that change was made, would it be worth it to replace Gollum in FOTR with the version seen from TTT and onward?

True, but I think some people feel he's already done that when he changed the color palette of FOTR for the extended blu-ray.

I'm fine with that, really. Perhaps when he decides to release LOTR in 3D, then I might be up in arms. Otherwise, I don't think he, nor anybody else, will pull a Lucas, as somebody pointed out.

There's changing the color palette...then there's George Lucas. C'mon.

He will also re-insert Arwen in the Battle of Helm's Deep. Why not, since you can already catch a glimpse of her.

He joked about doing some George Lucas edits on the commentary tracks, mostly about the different design of Gollum in FOTR to TTT.

Peter Jackson already pulled a Lucas. He's making prequels.

The difference is this a prequel that really doesn't really have any tie ins to the original. The Star Wars prequels were made specifically to tie into the original.

Besides Bilbo finding the ring in the cave and Gollem. Sauron has nothing to do with the storyline in "The Hobbit"

The Star Wars prequels were made so you could see the rise of the Empire and eventually Anakin becoming Darth Vader.

The Main storyline in "The Hobbit" wont connect to the main storyline in "Lord of the Rings"

He has a small role which Jackson looks to be beefing-up specifically to tie it in to LotR (and explain Gandalf's whereabouts when he goes missing half-way through).

I agree and you can always put in that Sauron was getting ready then. Because In Rankin and Bass movie Bombour says. He comes and Goes at will. So i think it makes good storytelling to show a day in the life of Gandy

10 minutes of very incomplete footage was shown at Cinema Con. The crowd was very "meh" about it.

So far, the mixed reactions seem to stem from the technology involved (3D and 48FPS) rather than the clips themselves. At least that is what I've been reading, which is understandable. People are saying that it is way too realistic, looking like a made-for-TV movie. To me, it's all about the story and, as long as we're given a chance to NOT watch it in 3D, I'd be OK with it.

The 48 frames is going to be the bigger thing to worry about. That is what is more than likely causing the "too realistic" appearance to some people, and if it's a bust, it's going to look bad with or without the 3D.
