Default Jackass 3D - Review Thread

Jackass has always been a love/hate kind of program. You either love it's random, clever, and painful pranks that it pulls on cast and real folks, or you despise its lack of artistic merit and regard it as a general waste of time. I'll admit that it is a waste of time, and it's not anything I'm going to look back on years from now and remember with fondness. But I do have a great time watching it. However, after 3 movies, it begins to grow stale.

The first Jackass came out when I was in high school, and I don't remember laughing so hard in a movie theater. The second wasn't as funny, it was more painful to watch more than anything, but it was still entertaining and had plenty of laugh out loud moments. On this, Jackass 3D, we are given the leftovers, gags that obviously had been sitting in their heads for a while but were never put to film, mostly because they aren't as good as what they had already done. Some gags such as the midget barfight and the jet engine deserve praise, but most of the jokes consist of people getting hit in the face, flying off ramps on anything with wheels, or getting run over by livestock. The 3D isn't even that widely used. Most of the scenes are done regularly, a few done in slo-mo (for which 3D isn't even necessary) and a few would be kinda cool yet much more gross with 3D. So put this down as yet another film that is needlessly 3D, so unless you like giving your hard earned money to other people, you might as well save it. So simply put, it's nothing new, and what's infinitely worse, nothing very funny.

I saw it on Friday night, and without going in to detail (I'll do that later) I'll just say I hated it except for two parts: midget bar fight and the jet engine. During both of those parts I thought I was going to go in to shock from laughing. Especially when the midget cops and midget paramedics rush in to help the midget redneck.

So we're basically in complete agreement.

Yes, basically. I didn't feel like just writing I agree.

I've always liked Jackass for what it is. I didn't think the previews for this one looked all that funny, but I still want to check this out.

I found it just as funny and cathartic as the other films. The only big misses were the hidden camera gags dwarf fight aside. Nothing reached the climax like Number Two's prank within a prank, but I still had a blast and can say with absolute confidence it is the funniest film I've seen this year.

Funny Movies always leaves their special impression on my mind. i know jackass 3d is not a pure comedy but the comedy portion of the movie is the best.

Wait - how is Jackass 3D not a pure comedy?

There's the part where some might consider it "medical" because of the anatomy shots? I'm guessing here.

i enjoyed it, twice already. I still think the Jackass 2 is the best but this one was pretty good. cool to see Wee Man & Preston get more of the spotlight and Ryan Dunn.

Saw this last night and it felt like there were many scenes where the cast just wasn't into it like they used to be. It seemed more like they were doing the movie just for a paycheck and "let's get this over with" on several of the skits. The laughs seemed forced from Knoxville especially at times and all the material just felt recycled and stale. Don't get me wrong, I used to love Jackass, but it's run its course. Probably the least funny skit in the entire movie was when Bam fell into the floor and was stuck down in the hole where they threw snakes on him. He got pissed, and whined about it and nobody really seemed to laugh much. Just worthless IMO. Overall, it still had some funny and gross moments, but just seemed to be past it's prime.

I have to respectfully disagree, the theater was laughing as hard as I was. Just off the top of my head I can think of the parts that were great. The jet engine, the rocky,OMG the taser hallway, all the port o johns skits, the miget bar scene, the giant hand, the tooth pull, the super glue, the puking, I found it funny whenever the camera man would puke omg when they got into the pen with the ram. I like how Steve o is calmer now that he's clean. Granted this movie had some nasty stuff that's not for everyone but me and wifes friends and coworkers all found this movie just as great as the others. Oh well we all got opinions no big deal

My point was that, while I agree that all of that is funny, it was funny when I first saw it long long ago. The skits haven't really evolved or changed. I mean, how many times can I be expected to laugh when I see Johnny Knoxville getting speared by a bull or something over and over again, or see someone hit in the nuts, hit by a balloon or in this case a giant hand, etc. I named the funny skits, and yeah there were other ones that I didn't mention in my short review that I laughed at, but it was more of the same, nothing that made me fall down laughing like the gold course airhorn or rent-a-car from the first film.

It's wierd cause I loved all 3 jackass movie, but I see everyones point. I feel the 3rd was very funny but some of it felt a little oversaturated. I really felt the part with Pontius as the guerrilla was not that funny. They filmed so much footage for the 3rd I don't think they picked the best skits for it. The midget bar scene was not that funny to me either but others on here pick that as one of the favorites for them. All in all I base jackass on how many times I laughed and how hard I laughed. And I laughed hard and a lot during the 3rd. I do feel however that Jackass 2 is the best but the 3rd is right next to it.

Right - exactly. It's not that some of the skits weren't funny, they were, it's just that we've seen them before and it wasn't nearly as funny as it was when I saw it the first time.

I really enjoyed it like I enjoyed the last 2. The taser hallway??? I haven't laughed that hard in awhile! Although some skits could have been cut from the film to save time like the santa in the tree.
