Not really sure which parts you would consider "gimicky"... When I first watched and still to this day I see the movie to be a very original film. A lot of the things we see in the movie ie porn frames in movies, pissing in food, etc is all based on real things that happened to the author or people he knew.

And when you say Scarface and Full Metal Jacket are overrated... well I really can't take anything you say further seriously.
So because I don't like 3 movies that you do like, you can't take anything I say seriously? Fair enough then.

There's also a subcategory we should discuss....scenes from specific movies that just pump you up and make you want to go play Rugby or shoot up a jewelry store....I'm a sucker for over the top explosions and hard rock music playing (probably why i love Boondocks, that's basically the whole movie).

For instance......."Hot Fuzz," while one of my favorites, I can understand if people don't dig it as much as me or get it, but when Sgt. Angel returns in the end and the climactic shootout occurs in the village, that **** is EPIC, and it totally pumps me up for more.

So what scenes, in movies discussed here or otherwise, really pump you up the way a Terminator or a Die Hard does the whole time?

Oh hell yeah. I might get some flak here, but I think that chase in Ronin is the best ever, besting the French Connection and Bullitt.

Another out of nowhere pump up scene IMO is when they are first in the chopper in Tropic Thunder, after Tayback convinces Cockburn to ship the actors out into the real jungle. That Crystal Method song is awesome and I've always wanted to use it myself in a flick.

I also love the intensity of the chemical burn scene in Fight Club.

I agree, although Bullitt set the standard for the way that chase scenes are done, it doesn't hold up compared to the chases in the Bourne movies or Ronin.

And Ronin has TWO of them!
