blair witch (only saw it once) is by far the scariest movie i've ever seen.

i basically live(d) in the woods, so it was frightening. we didn't even have a two way street where i grew up, no power lines, no water pipes from the city (worked off a well), so it was rather intense for me.

but PA has been leaked on the interwebs if you are interested.

It's absolutely understandable why someone wouldn't like it, in fact I think some people are turned off my handheld cam movies like that and Paranormal Activity altogether. I just found it amazing that a movie made for absolutely nothing that anyone could have strung together was infinitely scarier than all these crap horror movies with huge budgets and nothing to show. I couldn't believe people hated it because you "don't see anything". If we had seen the witch, all our fear would be erased entirely, a tactic Paranormal Activity used to its advantage as well. I watched it again a couple years ago and was still affected by it, so maybe being removed from the hype of its initial release could alter perceptions. I didn't mean to stray off topic so much, but I do feel that more horror films should model themselves after Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity. Not so much the handheld, "real" effect, but more the Hitchcock way of showing us as little as possible.

yea. just the thrill when down for me seeing that interview before i saw the movie just killed it, so that probably had affected my viewing.

i love the handheld cam effect, which is why i loved Cloverfield & Paranormal Activity.

really looking forward to Area 51 with the handheld effect

why didn't they switch positions in bed?

if my girlfriend was being terrorized as such, and then being pulled out of bed, i would put myself in front of the door. call me crazy.

I'm more curious as to why they didn't bother closing and locking the door. I know it was a demon and all, but it feels like the natural thing to do.

if you live by yourselves? why? front doors locked, no need for the bedroom to be locked.

As in, they know that there is a demon inside the house, and it comes into the bedroom every night. Naturally, anybody would want to lock the door or something, right? But even after so many things happened, the bedroom door remained open throughout the film. I guess cinematically, it'd be anti-climatic to have the door closed. It's just a logic thing, that's all.

What if they needed to make a quick escape?

Then it comes down to whether you see a locked door as keeping something out, or keeping you locked in. Besides, both unlocking a bedroom door and to open it involves the same twisting action anyway.

If it were me in that situation, I would have gotten a job working nights in a public place and would sleep during the day. The demon seemed to not do that much in the daylight.

You guys are being silly, it's a frickin' demon, it can do whatever it wants and it isn't going to be restrained by locked doors, public jobs, or by leaving that house.

maybe not, but in the movie, the demon only did things at night while they were sleeping. Aside from a few moments that she felt it "breathing" on her during the day.

Day time/ Night time has always been a questionmark when it came to Demon mythology. They always seem to be at their stength at night. And as far as I know, THIS demon didn't follow her to school or follow him to work.... so it isn't crazy that the demon was really only strong at night while they were sleeping (most vulnerable). And the demon was weak during the day while they were awake.

When they leave their house at 7:30 PM the demon does the ouija board thing, so that's both pretty early and when the two are away from their house. I'm with Dracula here, it's a demon so there's really not a whole lot they can do.

I forgot about the ouija board thing. I guess I personally don't see this demon as being all that powerful. If this demon could do "anything it wants," I would think it would do a lot more. So if a demon is just doing things like closing doors and turning lights on when people are sleeping, it is no different than a child running around the house pranking his parents to get attention. Which doesn't seem very demon like to me or scary... just childish. it isn't until the last 20 mins of the movie where the demon actually does something cool. When he grabs her and drags her is the turning point for me.

I personally don't believe in demons. But if they did exist, and have this kind of power, they would do a lot worse. The door slamming and the light flickering is really just there to play to the audience because we have all had those "wtf" moments where we hear a noise or light flickering or something to that nature. But in all seriousness, an evil demon with a lot of power wouldn't waste time slamming doors.

I'd also remind you that it broke that picture frame during the day.

Either way, this is a pretty mysterious force, I don't think there was any good way of dealing with it, they were not in control of the situation.

Apparently Steven Spielbergo watched this and the bedroom he was in's door locked from the inside and he got freaked out, put the dvd in a rubbish bag and had someone dispose of it accordingly.

Man i really hope they dont make a sequel for this movie ...It would be so effing stupid

I realize this movie is making a enormous profit at the boxoffice but that dosn't mean it warrants a sequel...Hopefull the director agrees and doesn't co sign with the idea of a sequel

Id hate to see another Saw situation were the first movie was good on its own than it just stupid with all the sequels

yea, i think instead of a sequel, just make movies with the POV/handheld effect with different genres. theres the Area 51 coming up, do something different.
