Would be interesting if Whedon took it, but it doesn't sound like he's making much of a serious offer when he bids $10,000:

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/3495...franchise.html

Quote:
Joss Whedon’s brilliant pitch for the Terminator franchise
Simon Brew

The genius that is Joss Whedon has a point to make about the future of the Terminator franchise. We think they should sell it to him…

Published on Nov 3, 2009
Yesterday, we reported that the rights to the Terminator movies were going up for grabs at auction with every major Hollywood studio reported to have lodged an interest in snapping them up. Given the state of the Terminator franchise contrasted against its heyday, you might be wondering quite what all the fuss is about. And in Joss Whedon, you may have just found someone to align with.

Whedon has written a spectacularly good open letter to the owners of the Terminator franchise, making his (spoof) pitch to buy the rights. It's gone up over at Deadline Hollywood, and in his letter, Whedon - who introduces himself as "the mastermind behind Titan A.E., Parenthood (not the movie) (or the new series) (or the one where 'hood' was capitalized 'cause it was a pun), and myriad other legendary tales" - puts his offer right on the table. "I am prepared to make a pre-emptive bid RIGHT NOW to wrap this dealio up," he writes. "This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is not available on TV. I will write a check TODAY for $10,000, and viola! Terminator off your hands."

But what would he do with it, you might ask? Noting the Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke has argued that the Terminator franchise is pretty much done, Whedon responds by offering some suggestions as to what he'd do with the franchise if he got his hands on it:

"1) Terminator... of the Rings! ... he's a cyborg and he doesn't give a s#&% about the ring -- it has no power over him! And he can carry it AND Frodo AND Sam AND f@%& up some orcs while he's doing it. This stuff just comes to me. I mean it."

Or what about:

"3) Can you say... musical? Well don't. Even I know that's an awful idea."

For fans of the Batman movies:

"4) Christian Bale's John Connor will get a throat lozenge. This will also help his Batwork (ten grand for that franchise too, btw.)"

And then there's...

"5) More porn. John Connor never told Kyle Reese this, but his main objective in going to the past was to get some. What if there's a lot of future-babies that have to be made? Cue wah-wah pedal guitar -- and dollar signs!"

As Whedon notes in his concluding paragraph, "I really believe the Terminator franchise has only begun to plumb the depths of questioning the human condition during awesome stunts, and I'd like to shepherd it through the next phase. The money is there, but more importantly, the heart is there. But more importantly, money."

You can read the full letter here, and we right here, right now, top Mr Whedon's offer by bidding $10,001 for the series now. Will Joss be getting into a bidding war with us, we wonder?

lmao!!!

In all seriousness Whedon could probably do a fine job with a Terminator film in his hands.

Yeah, too bad he's not taking it seriously. Let's just hope Lucas doesn't make a run for it.

If you're going to mock the sale, atleast do it with humor.

I actually didn't mind this movie, it was better then the 3rd one and I liked how they kept the humor out of it.

Terminator 3 was genius compared to McG's music video.

I agree I enjoyed this film a lot more then T3. Which I thought was just a really bad version of T2.

I thought T4 was pretty good, it just felt like there was in the end something missing. I think the ending was just a little contrived.

Yeah I know what you mean I think Marcus could have used a better ending then what he was given. He was more interesting as a character then anyone else in that movie.

I only wish in the end they had given him more depth to why he was choosing to do what he did to help Conner.

Everything after T2 feels inferior because this is first and foremost Cameron's story.. and I don't mean in terms of him coming up with it and it's originality....I mean his vision of bringing it to life through his eyes. He knew exactly what he wanted and knew exactly how to approach a sequel and it's one of the best sequels ever made. Period. T2 was the last chapter. It was the other bookend. It was the finale.

Keeping the series going feels like fanboy masturbation, no matter who they get to do it and how good it looks. It'll always feel like either a cash-in or a vehicle for special FX.

Of course you would. Why not just get Paul Anderson to direct it.

^^Love the trolls - this coming from some new guy who liked The Orphan and Polar.

Looks like Fox just canceled Doll House. Maybe Whedon should take the offer to buy the Terminator franchise a little more seriously because he's certainly not cranking out blockbusters himself.

Me personally I think he should start working on a sequel to Serenity. There were enough dvd/blu-ray sales to grant a sequel.

I'd go for a sequel, although I'm hoping it would be a bit more than what we got with the first one. It was good, but could have gone straight to video type good. Someone would have to give Whedon a decent budget though, and I'm not sure anyone's willing to risk it.

I rather enjoyed 4, it had flaws but it was better than 3. If and when they do a 5th they need to bring back Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard. Arnie probably wont be Gov Arnie anymore so he can come back for more than a CGI cameo, bring in Robert Patrick too and you have a good flick.

I enjoyed 4 alot, i liked it better than T3

And i loved Sam Worthing as Marcus, a really great character that i feel was overshadowd by alot of the negatives of the film.

John Connor was a horrible character, all he did was yell all the time, it didn't even seem like John Connor

A lot of plot holes as well, i think the main problem was the directing but who ever wrote the movie did a poor job

That being said i also think Terminator is one of those franchises that has run its course, remember the opening weekend for Salvation wasn't even that good to begin with so its not like people rushed to go see it and than didn't go the next weekend

IIDk i just feel maybe Terminator is a franchise best left to be untouched for a while

I just need to see the war and it come to an end on film. I dont want a reboot or a whole new cast to come in and try to "save" a franchise that really does not need it. It does need some improvement in the script area and a new director but that is it. Bring back Bale and let him show what he can do with the savior of mankind finally.

Yeah no kidding. Just look at the Stargate movies. They are banking on dvd sales.
