That article was so biased. I could say everything he said and turn it the other way. This guy is a Singer-lover and that's it.

Sidious 06-21-2005 03:36 PM

You could say that, but I think the main point the guy is making, and I agree with him, is to give the movie/Ratner a chance! There's no point in moaning about it before it even starts. Who knows, with the pressure Ratner is under, maybe he'll pull it off and do a good job! Ratner must have been aware of the release date when he accepted the job so he must have some confidence that he can do it in that time frame and not mess it up.

I don't mind Ratner. I like him as a director, except for After The Sunset, but the script sucked there, so I can't really fault him too much for that. What I don't like is people defending X-Men and X2 because of what the film crew was able to pull off in a short amount of time. Sure, they did well for the amount of money and time they had, but that doesn't mean they nailed the characterizations properly. I still feel cheated from the first two movies, not only on action, but on characters and story, too. This guy thinks that the X-Men don't need toughening up, but they do. And to make a comment like "I have an idea Matthew, how about first directing a commercially successful film before you take cheap shots at other directors with proven track records!" is so far beyond ignorant I almost stopped reading at that point. The fact is that the reason the X-Men films don't transcend the Spider-Man and Batman films is because they put way too many main characters in and didn't give enough time developing them. Now they are using the sequels to replace the development that should have been apart of the first one.

Fox Sues Sony Over "Zoom"
Posted: Tuesday June 21st, 2005 4:39pm
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Author: Garth Franklin

Accusing Revolution Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment of copyright infringement and unfair competition, Marvel Enterprises and 20th Century Fox have filed suit against Sony and Revolution says The Hollywood Reporter.

The suit claims that the upcoming Sony/Revolution sci-fi comedy "Zoom" starring Tim Allen uses key elements from the "X-Men" franchise. "Zoom" has yet to start production, but the premise involves teenage mutant super-heroes, an underground training facility, and a sinister government program which are a signature of the "X-Men" franchise.

What's causing all the ruckus is Sony's decision to release "Zoom" next May 12th, just two weeks before "X3" comes out. The lawsuit, seeking injunctive relief and monetary damages, makes the release date a key part of the complaint.

Philippe Rousselot Aboard X-Men 3
Source: XMenFilms.net
June 21, 2005

XMenFilms.net tells us that a new crew member has come on board for X-Men 3:

XMF can now exclusively reveal that X3 director Brett Ratner has hired the highly rated Philippe Rousselot as director of photography (aka cinematographer) for X3! The French Oscar winner has worked on a wide variety of films including Interview with the Vampire, People Vs. Larry Flint, Remember the Titans, Antwoine Fisher and Tim Burton's Big Fish.

He also has experience in working on bid budget films based on comic book material having photographed Constantine. He last worked on the upcoming Burton/Depp film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. DOP Dante Spinotti who worked on three of Brett Ratner's movies had already committed to a new project, preventing the start of a new collaboration. Rousselot is currently in prep and will start shooting on August 2nd.

sshuttari 06-22-2005 02:38 AM

Lets just wait and see what happens before jumping into conclusions. I really think Brett Ratner can pull it off, all we need is a good script and not to many egos walking around(halley berry).

smith42687 06-22-2005 12:39 PM

Very nice hiring of the cinematographer.

I visually enjoyed Constantine and Big Fish.

Heres the second helping of real good news.

Q: I've seen a lot of web sites that say steam is building up for X-men 3, they have a script and new director and most of the cast is back. But I keep seeing that you are alternately 'signed' or are 'still in talks'. So rather than find out second-hand from these other sites. I thought I'd go straight to the source. have you actually signed yet or are you still in talks?

A: Although I haven't actually signed the contract it is intended that I reprise Magneto in the 3rd X-Men movie. Shooting starts in September in Vancouver, where I shall join the cast after completing my work on Da Vinci Code.

smith42687 06-23-2005 12:46 PM

OMG wow. I was sure him and Stewart were both already signed on.

I was hoping the story would focus on him organizing a bigger, stronger rebellion... and he is Magneto. No if's, and's, or but's. He IS Magneto.

batman_max 06-24-2005 09:07 PM

I sure hope so, I am still in a extreme state of depression sice Singer left, but what if Superman bombs? They have to release a little teaser just so we know in wich way the film is headed in.

Here's an unconfirmed bit from 'DeadPool''s Blog on X-Men 3 casting:

Maggie Grace (Lost) is out as Kitty Pryde. The production team has just issued a casting notice for the role. Ratner and Co. are a smart bunch because they're using the script to The Astonishing X-Men comic-book as sides. Wanna know the irony? The comic-book is written by Joss Whedon, who every fanboy dreamed of having writing and directing X-Men 3.

IGN Filmforce tells us they have confirmed that "Lost" and "The Fog" star Maggie Grace is no longer playing Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3. It was also recently announced that "X2" and "X3" screenwriter Zak Penn is developing a third "X-Men" spinoff movie that he may direct. The site says:

According to reliable sources, Penn's project centers around a group of mutant youngsters at Charles Xavier's school for gifted children. Expect some of those young protagonists to probably include characters already established in the X-Men movies.

They add that the roles of Angel and his nefarious father remain uncast, as does the part of Gambit, which will be a minor role. Daniel Cudmore may be back as Colossus in the third film. Speaking of Angel, IGN Filmforce says "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" star Mike Vogel was up for the role, but he has a conflicting schedule.

IGN FilmForce checked with its sources, however, who advised us that Vogel was a candidate for the part but isn't now that he took a role as Emmy Rossum's boyfriend in the remake of The Poseidon Adventure.

'Amy' also pointed us to XMenFilms.net which reminds us that a teaser for X-Men 3 is expected to hit theaters with Fantastic Four next week. Director Brett Ratner will start shooting "X3" this August in Vancouver for a May 26, 2006 release date.

Jimmy Kudo 06-30-2005 12:53 AM

Yeah, Emmy looks a whole lot like Shadowcat. I hope they make the right choice and cast that cutie of an actress. ;)

Honestly, I just never understood why they went and cast Maggie Grace.

X-Men 3
That online script that was reviewed, says Arad, was something "verbally passed on. It wasn't even a script". Arad says he loves all his babies, but "rarely do I say this is the best script of them all". Arad says the script is getting better day by day, and "you re-write scenes while you're in production". He adds, "I tell you what really pisses me off about this stuff - is the ignorance to the comics, because if you know the comics at all, OK, lot of our leaders of the X-Men died and came back in one form or another".

Arad hints that Patrick Stewart's character, Xavier, may die in the movie. "He died [in the comic]. One of the most famous panels in the comic was his funeral. They all die and come back. We don't kill anyone just for the hell of it - [only] if it works for the story".

Onto casting and Arad confirmed that Maggie Grace ["Lost"] is out as Kitty Pryde, hinting that it had something to do with her TV schedule. So when do we hear who's replacing her? "Tuesday", he says. As for who is playing Angel, Arad says Mike Vogel was up for it - but his schedule clashed. "He decided to go with the Poseidon Adventure". And what happened to Alan Cumming, why isn't he back as Nightcrawler? "This film has like ten new mutants, and some of them are like mind-****ing characters", says Arad. "We have to move on. In our story bringing someone [in] who is not from the immediate leadership does not serve the story". Arad says there would just be no screentime for Cumming.

Writer/director Joss Whedon (the upcoming Wonder Woman) has commented on rumors that his "Firefly" and "Serenity" star Summer Glau is up for the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3, now that "Lost" star Maggie Grace is no longer on board. Whedon posted the following on the "Serenity" official site's message board:

Summer did read for Kitty in X3. I know because she called me and mentioned she was going to and did I know anything about the character (there were no 'sides' to study -- they had to get them when they came in). So the girl I turned into sort of a superhero in my movie was going to read for the character that most influenced ALL my girl-heroes, Kitty Pryde. Karmically funky. Anyhoo, she called me after and said it was very emotional and kind of like when she read for FIREFLY, she just got into a very intense groove. She started telling me about the scene she read and that's when I realized WHY it was kind of like she read for FIREFLY. 'Cause (as you may know) it was a scene I wrote for Astonishing X-Men issue #5. I assume they just didn't have sides ready and used that but this was like a karmic moebius strip, it was just too folded in on itself. In this time of odd, I turned to beer. (No I didn't. Stay in school.)

Ratner Wants "X3" Mutant Hooker
Posted: Friday July 1st, 2005 2:15am

Author: Garth Franklin

A new mutant will be introduced in the next X-Men movie - a sexy woman whose superpower is secreting a pheromone that helps her seduce anyone she wants reports Ananova.

The role has yet to be cast, but insiders claim Aya Sumika of US TV cop drama Hawaii and Kate Nauta who stars alongside Jason Statham in the upcoming "Transporter 2" are auditioning. Still, the role for the moment is being widely published as being open to anyone - indeed, this is one casting couch that dry cleaners are already shuddering in fear over.

Otherwise the film is still progressing as planned, the recent AICN script review was shot down by Fox, Marvel & Ratner last week as an early draft that bears little relation to the current script from writers Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg.

Yeah I agree with bigxmenfan. Why do people believe these rumour stories so easily??!! I'm very sceptical about this stacy x rumour from a "source"! Even if it is true though, it could be interesting to see how her character turns out. I'm actually feelin quite good about the movie now, esp. having watched the Avi Arad interview on IESB and hearing what he had to say!
