View Full Version : My Opinion

In my own personal opinion, I think The Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be great movies. I KNOW these will be the biggest movies for the next 3 winter seasons. I know that I, along with millions of other people, will love these movies. Unfortunately, I also know that people will totally go overboard with these movies. Know what I'm talking about? Didn't think so. Lemme give you an example.

Star Wars

I'll explain. I love these movies. I think they are great. I've watched each one of these movies a bunch of times. However, there are a bunch of people, some who might even post at these forums, who have totally ruined these movies for everybody. How? By making these movies, simple films, into world-wide religions. How can these psycho people wait in line for movie tickets 6 months in advance. When I went and saw The Phantom Menace, there were people dressed up like Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, etc. and spouted Star Wars lines until the movie started, then went outside and started fighting with lightsabers. If you know a lot of normal people, these are the ultimate nerd movies. This would not have happened if it weren't for those weirdos. If you watch these with your friends, then they will probably stop talking to you, unless they are obsessed fans, too. I'm not saying you should stop watching them, I'm not saying they are bad movies, all I am saying is that people have ruined these movies by going overboard.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm afraid this is going to happen to LOTR. I pray that it won't, but I think this will change peoples opinions on LOTR. I don't really expect any replies, but that's what I think, in my opinion.

(1) I hope so, too!!!

(2) This is a lot easier to do for Star Wars and Star Trek fans, 'cause you have masks, uniforms, phasers and light swords, but what about LOTR? It's not easy to go as hobbit, if you are double size, and orcs need heavy make-up... I think it won't be that disastrous as with Wars/Trek.

(3) The films were not ruined for me by such extreme fans.

They might not have been ruined for you, they haven't been ruined for me, but you gotta admit, they are labeled as nerd movies. It's these psycho people that totally overdo it that give Star Wars a very undeserved bad name.

That's what I was trying to say to you earlier, Dooms.

I see and I do agree with you. But I think the worse case is Star Trek, which I also like very much.

With movies like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings, you are going to have to expect a more intelligent audience than most action/sci-fi/fantasy etc...

It's not that you HAVE to be intelligent to appreciate movies from these three titans.. but people of higher intellect seem to be drawn the these in particular.

Having said that, an intelligent person will have to put up with other intelligent people who fall into the "nerdy" cateogory or extreme fanatacism and eccentricity. It's only a result of the demographics that these types of movies play to. With millions of fans who are of above average intelligence, there are bound to be thosands of nerds, geeks, and eccentrics who will enjoy the movies along side the "normal" people, as you put it, since these types of people are more numerous among such an intelligent demographic.

Lord of the Rings will be incredible.

thank you, mr. jackson! :p

also... that's a very good point about the costumes... though I'm sure we'll all see people with big hairy feet and bad imitations of Nazgul cloaks.... Hopefully, no one will dare come as Treebeard ....
