Anyone know why they didn't bring back Furlong? All the other characters in the *soon to be* trilogy have been portrayed by the same actors, except for John...

well, this is something i got from the upcomingmovies.com site or, well its moved to Yahoo now, but this is what it says.

Columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith report that Edward Furlong has been let go, with a replacement for his role as John Connor being sought. There were recent British reports that Edward Norton was cast in the role, but this was most likely just someone confusing their names. (2/8/02) Lance Henricksen told The Arnold Fan that there's a chance his Det. Vukovich character from the original movie could return, wheelchair-bound, following what happened to him in that film. (3/15/02) Anderson Jones of E! Online reports that he's heard a rumor that Shane West (A Walk to Remember) may have the John Connor role. (3/23/02) AICN reports that another possibility to play John Connor is In the Bedroom costar Nick Stahl. (3/24/02) Variety confirms that Nick Stahl has landed the role

I heard it was because of his long long long history of substance abuse... Which apparently is still going on.

I don't know why Eddie is not in the film, but if it is set in the future don't they need an older scarred Conner?

I for one did not like Stahl as Connor...he just did not do it for me. I had to try and get past a new guy in the role as well as the rest of the crappy movie you know as T3

Old topic.....

Anyways, two reasons, even though officials wouldn't admit to it:

1. Furlong doesn't have an adult appearance. He still looks like a kid, sounds like a kid, and doesn't really have a leader appearance.

2. He's done serious drugs and gotten in trouble for it, thus they wouldn't want that kind of person being in a film.... guess he's not a good role model.

Personally I don't like Nick Stahl very much, and I think there's tons of actors that they could of chosen over him that would of been better. Both for acting, and appearance wise.

Yeah Nick Stahl was ok as John Connor, I for one would have prefered Furlong back in the role, too bad he blew it for himself....... as for appearance - wise he was cute as a 13 year old kid in T2, I don't know how he looks now though..........maybe his appearance did play a factor as to why he wasn't chosen to play John Connor in T3.

Stahl was cooler than Furlong. Whenever I think of him, I think of pot, and a cracking voice :)

Just take him in T2, increase his height a bit, give him a bit of a gut belly, and don't change his voice, and there you have him.

So people felt John Connor was portrayed as not being tough enough for the role, and somehow the actor is to blame? Well that could be but unless the director says he allowed Stahl to work the role in his own way. It's my belief that a movie director tells the actors how he/she should play the part. Another thing is why would you assume that the John Connor character is a such a tough guy 24-7? Maybe that was his demeanor. Maybe the events of T2 left J.Connor feeling like he didn't want anything to do with Judgement Day and death. So maybe learning of his mother's death is what triggers the badass in him. Does this sound unreasonable to anyone? This sounds very accurate to me since it is possible that a person will go through changes as time and events unfold.

So to summarize..I very much enjoyed this movie. It did what I had hoped it would do..it provided me with entertainment.

You just said that maybe learning his mother's death triggers the badass in him. However that never appears to trigger in the movie, not that I ever saw, and he's known of his mother's death for ages.

So just a bit confused by that statement.

I think what he meant is that before he learned of her death, he was almost resigned, because he thought it was over. But after he finds out its not, he's ready to fight, and he starts preparing with Kate and Arnie3.

Well thats what I mean. I didn't find that he changed at all. He was still the same character people have described all the way through.

Im thinking that when he steps up and takes lead he will become the character everybody wants...He tried his hardest to stay away from his Future he fought against it as he didnt want it...Now that Judgment day has happened, he may have to take his place and become less "whiny" and such...He will understand that nothing that he does will stop him having to lead Humans to victory over Skynet...Maybe he will mature knowing this...
