My worst nightmare has come true again...

last year: My Mom goes in for a simple surgery to remove a "small" cancer...when opened up, it is discovered to be a million times worse than expected...

this year, today: my cousin goes in to have a small lump removed from her breast, only to discover it is a million times worse.....

I wonder if the government will accept me for some suicide missions...because I've seen people die the way I am destined to if time runs it's course (i.e. CANCER), and I want no part of it!!!

I'm shocked...now I know why bbf2 said that in milestones, and I guess why everyone's been down lately...It was right under my nose the whole time...

On one side of the coin, Madness is right (in a lesser tone), that shouldn't affect whether they post on the boards, because it is still the same place. Whether they have their modship or not..

Then again, why was it taken from them? Using the 3 of them as the obvious examples, they've been here as long or longer than most or everyone else. They've contributed their fair share to these boards many times over and deserve what they had, and I don't see the reason in why it was taken.

It may not affect me or you, or the newer mods as much, but all these older mods, including these 3 obviously were affected by it and I understand why whether I agree with them leaving or not. I also agree with skink, Iben, and everyone else..I don't know if I can get used to this either...

I guess while I'm here half-asleep, I'll say something on my mind (purpose of this thread right?)...Lately, whether it be last couple weeks or last month or 2 I'm not sure, I haven't been posting nearly as much as I used to or as much as other regulars. Yet, I've been checking in every night just about and going through allt he new topics. I'm here just as much, I just don't post. To me, that means a SERIOUS lack of interest, because I'm not that lazy...It just doesn't seem to have the magic, or the fun, or the meaning it used to. The boards haven't seemed the same, yet older posters who had died off are even coming back more often now. I don't know what it is...

Even a part of me wants to follow their lead and hit the road, because I still would talk to the people who I consider, and who I'm pretty sure consider me their friends on AIM or whatnot. Most of the people anyway. Then again, I wonder how hard it would be to stay away. Besides, I was never a mod to begin with, what reason do I have? .................

Perhaps, and just perhaps, they feel it is a betrayal of their trust. They were made mods for a reason. They held those positions because people trusted them to their jobs.

Then, one day, without warning, it gets taken from them. Its not that it was taken, its not that they don’t have power, its that they weren’t asked how to fix it, they weren’t given any warning.

The trust that people had in them to do the right thing was just yanked out from underneath them by people they trusted to do the right thing and whom, for some of them, they considered friends.

I agree. And it has not, and will never be my intention. I have and will support both Jibbs, Iben and Tyross (oh and Malice and Mirko).

I just think things could/should have been done diffrently.

Well i think that may have to do with the downturn the board has been going through. Not because of, in spite of or in any way related to the Mods. . .

I think it has more to do with the movies coming out. It should pick up again come thanksgiving (US). Better movies = better topics and more interesting things to say, usually.

I agree with you Empusae. We weren´t given any warning, and we weren´t given an opportunity to really debate the issue. It was like "this is how it´s going to be, and it will be done tonight".
And I still don´t understand why Malice closed the thread in "site feedback" where he told about the decision. I believe that would´ve given the old mods an opportunity to discuss the decision, and get on with their lives as plain normal users.

Yeah it's pretty obvious to me why the decision was made. Personally I dont know why it took so long. I hope that Mirko and Tech dont change their minds, just cause a couple of posters pout about it. They obviously want this place to GROW and prosper.

I'm just not sure what taking away the mods will do to improve this situation, there'll still be some posters who've been here longer than others and there’ll still be some posters who don't know how to behave and there’ll still be these "cliques" that people complain about, simply because some people get along better on and outside the boards than others. I don't see what taking away the mods will change about these things.

There was given no reason as to why the thread in SF was closed (although, my guess would be a fear of agressive feedback).
And a particular reason for the firing of the moderators was never really given. I think they just felt it was better somehow...

Alright. I'm going to express this in as explicit terms as I can. I like this site, in fact I love it. The fact that modship was taken away from me does not change that. I want to continue to post here, but with a mass exodus of a particular group of friends, I began to have my doubts. I still believe I will stay.

To criticize bbf2, rob, or frizzo for what they did is wrong. The decision to get rid of mods was sudden, and I somewhat expected some sort of this same feedback.


To say that the old mods formed a clique is crap. Absolute crap. We welcomed new posters into the boards, we didn't purposely exclude ANYBODY WHO DIDN'T WARRANT MODERATOR ACTION. Let's see: LOTR, spidermanfan, rogermiller, fat albert..... all were offensive to the general populace of the boards... NOT THE MODS. In many cases, it was non-mods who called for their banning.

Anyone who was willing to talk to us could. If we joked around with each other, it was because we were friends. In the same manner that, say, Godzilla and Optimus talk to each other, that is the way we talked to each other. Anyone could joke along with us, and anyone could join a conversation.

I've been around these boards to remember frizzo, iben, rogue, madness, godzilla, even Olorin's first few days. We welcomed them to the boards in the same way we welcomed all of you. Inevitably, we had to act within the duties assigned to us as moderators to filter out offensive posts. THAT WAS OUR JOB, NOT A METHOD OF EXCLUDING PEOPLE.

We wanted the boards to, as JPL put it, "grow and prosper" as much as anyone else did. We tried our damndest, and to accuse of doing anything otherwise is a lie.

I miss my friends. I wish they would have stayed, and that in some way, they might return. But I am as willing as ever to converse with anyone on these boards. I am not off-limits to talk to, as the former-mods who still are here are not. We NEVER were.

I'm also thinking of what a great time I had a few hours ago. Today was Student Appreciation Day and they had one of those inflatable bouncy chamber thingies (I don't know what you call them!) and you could play volleyball in them.
