If I am totally honest, not too keen on these two. What are other peoples thoughts?

You are lucky because I was just going to do a Kili and Fili one. That black haired one looks like he could take on Aragorn. He looks extremely bad ass

Yeah they do look quite cool. But not how they are described in the book. I'm open to anything though :D

But what would young Dwarfs look like. Again its hard going against our own imagination. I think the looks is based on the actors face likely and what best way to have a performance there.

To be honest, I think its just the lack of beard! To me, they don't all have to look like Gimli, but some beard should be present.

They both have beards and to show they have been on a journey they may have fuller beards. If look at the animated Rankin and Bass Hobbit they had very little there as well.

Thinking about it, if these are the youngest and more rebellious dwarves, then maybe they don't like/want long beards.

They look like they don't have much facial make-up on, unlike the others; they're too "man-ish".

I think we need to bare in mind that them being the youngest Dwarvs allows them some wiggle room and if all the dwarvs leave an impression more then the beard length then i would be happy.
Do we need to see The Seven Dwarvs long beards here and old look. I mean Dopy had no hair or beard and was the young pup.
Knowing there fate i really do think Kili and Fili will be the most remember Dwarfs after Balin and Thorin.

I accept that. It's just a shame that they look too human. I hope Oin and Gloin aren't the only dwarves that the majoirty of us were exoecting.

A question i understand why Dori Nori and Ori are together. And Kili and Fili but why was Oin and Gloin. I am certain next will be Bifor, Bofur and Bombour. My guess then would be Balin and Dwalin and lastly Thorin by himself or with Bilbo.

Oin and Gloin are brothers and Bifur is a cousin to Bofur and Bombur.

Loving the look so far. Long Beard or not doesn't really matter. Frankly, it shows the diff between older (seasoned ) dwarves vs the younger ones who still haven't come into their own.
I am so hyped up for this movie, & we are still more than a year away.

Wasn't Gimli middle aged which mean not old but still in prime of life. JRD worked for Gimli and so didn't Gimli's look work for JRD

Frankly, I think that anything that PJ does with the look of any RINGS movie will turn out GREAT. He has What 36-38 Oscar Nominations & 17 Actual Oscars with the Trilogy alone. & that is not to mention Various other Major Awards & Nominations with the series.
People may question what is in or out of the movies, in regards to the books. However, he still makes the story work.
I will say though, I seriously doubt that this will be the children book that Tolkein created. I would say that the movie will be about a level or 1 above.
Can't wait to see the TROLLS or Smaug.

It's been a decade since LotR...think about how good that looked back in 2001. Now imagine how good this is going to look. Weta are the masters, it shalt rock!
The 3D I'm undecided on, I just hope it doesn't affect the direction too much, if at all.

I agree that WETA are masters at this stuff PERIOD. Didn't they have a Hand in Avatar also? I do remeber reading about James being down in NZ & having the guys do some stuff on the movie. The 3D I think only will Make the Masterful look even better,( if that is possible).
The Direction of the movie I am not worried about at all. & With Andy Directing the second unit, All is looking great. I just think that it was already written that those who created the 1st 3 movies would also create the last movies. Though, I think that GDT would have done a great job, I just wasn't sure what it be like. Eventhough, it was a different book, there is a Look of Middle Earth that has been established & someone coming in & creating their own version really wouldn't do. No matter how good. Peter was always ment to write, Produce, & Direct these last movies.
I still have my thoughts, that in the early stages of writing & such. That PJ, GDT,& PB bumped heads on the screenplay, & the look of the new movies. GDT was the director yes, But PJ was till in charge.

They're not wearing the colored hoods they mention in the Encyclopedia of Arda
purple, Grey - that one's right, purple, brown, white, blue, and blue.
Thorin = Sky Blue
Balin = red
Bifur = yellow
Bofur = yellow
Bombur = pale green
Dwalin = dark green

Well, Aragorn should've worn green when dressed in his ranger gear in LotR but they went for black, light black and...more black. But black is always cool so there are some liberties I don't mind them taking with the source material. :P

Afraid not - The Rangers were grim in life, appearance, and dress. They wore rusty green and brown.
He wore some brown in with the black

I'm not too fussed that the Dwarves don't have their brightly coloured beards. I never really imagined them like that (and the fact some of them have very little beard makes colouring them pointless). But I do hope they have kept their coloured hoods, and that they make an appearance during the film. As of yet, we don't no when during the film these costumes are going to be used.

yeah one of them had a blue beard, but I don't see them doing that either - maybe bluish grey is close as they could go.
They wouldn't have to be (and shouldn't be) neon hat colors :D

And the green? I didn't say just green.

Remember the big long jacket Aragorn was wearing in Fellowship?
It was actually dark green, not black.

Yeah I recall PJ or somebody else discussing something to that effect on the extended edition commentary, but it still isn't "rusty" green when it's so dark that it looks black. See Bakshi's animated look for a more accurate depiction of the colours; don't get me wrong, I prefer the PJ look, it just deviates, just as the look for the dwarves seemingly has in The Hobbit.

Now that 12 out of 13 Dwarves have been released, and I have had time to get used to and look at them properly, I am most dissapointed by Kili. Fili I can live with, but Kili looks like he belongs in a L'Oréal 'Because I'm worth it' advert. Looks nothing like a dwarf, and in a line up of the 12, he looks most out of place. Hopefully he will look more rough during their journey!
