This movie is unfairly hated. Granted, it has many flaws but compared to Superman III it's a solid installment in the franchise. The idea for the film is quite good. Superman stopping nuclear weapons was a ballsy move. The humor is handled way better than in the Richard Lester movies. And, the action scenes were pulled off very well despite the low budget. I understand why people dislike this film. The script feels like it was written for a kids cartoon show, Nuclear Man is a glorified henchman, and the dumb Super Kiss returns. But it still manages to be a charming picture.

I've never seen III or IV. I keep seeing/hearing reasons not to.

It depends, really. If you're just a casual fan of the character then there's no reason to watch it.

This movie reminds me of being ill as a 7 year old and lying in my parents' bed with chicken drumsticks watching it on a tiny tv thinking "is this for real?"

If a Superman film fails with a 7 year old boy, it has problems...

And Neverending you're way off, I didn't develop any homosexual tendencies until I joined CS and met JBond.

Just read the Wikipedia page detailing the true development hell the Superman films and almost-films have gone through over the last 10-20 years. Interesting stuff. Some WB executives seem intent on ruining the character's cinematic legacy.

I did a personal fan edit that helps it for me. I took SIII and removed as much of the stupid slapstick comedy and terrible Richard Pryor peformance as I could, and combined it with a cut down SIV. To me this made them both more watchable.

I've met people like Margot Kidder, Valerie Perrine, Alex Ross, Adam West, Julie Newmar, Lou Ferrigno and many more there (not thier)....so his being a guest star isn't bad. The movie he was in may not have been great....hell it may not be good....but he still costarred in a Superman movie with Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman. And what are your major accomplishments so far?

really going to have to disagree with you there

I'll take Richard Pryor & Evil Supes over Nuclear Man and his growing finger nails any day of the week

I thought SIII was one of Pryor's worst performances. He just wasn't funny in it to me.

The dark side of the moon is called that because we can't see it from earth...it doesn't mean that the sun never shines on it.

I finally saw this last month and I have to say, I didn't (completely) hate it. The storyline makes no sense, they rip off moments from the first film and the special effects were horrendous. Despite that, it has some effective emotional moments and moved at a brisk pace. Most importantly, unlike the abysmal Superman III, it's actually about Superman. It's definitely not a good film but it was certainly entertaining.
