Written/directed by Abrams, produced by Spielberg. Has a budget of around $35-40m and will share a "tonal similarity" with Cloverfield. There's going to be less shaky-cam (yay) and it will be released next year. "It’s a blend of the Star Trek director’s own love of sci-fi and the Close Encounters ethos of Spielberg’s early work."

Yeah so the teaser looks pretty cool but it sucks that It didn't play in front of the copy of Iron Man that I saw.....I was waiting for it and it never showed....For a sec I thought it was going to be about that Area 51 movie I was hearing they are making but I guess the movie will be called super 8. To me it sounds like a Gas company or a bigger and better version of motel 6.

Having known nothing about this teaser except that it has something to do with a monster, I liked this teaser, it was pretty beast and deff had the whole theater say "What the f**k was that?!"

But.

The cloverfield original teaser beats this by...ALOT lol

ditto 777. the Cloverfield teaser was and is way better than Super 8 but S8 was still pretty cool.

I don't remember that all. In fact, I just looked over the original thread, and it was pretty much nothing but people saying how intrigued and excited they were after watching the teaser, and trying intently to solve the online viral marketing.

I will follow this more closely than Cloverfield, though, because it's JJ Abrams directing it. Hopefully this won't be as vague in it's marketing for as long as Cloverfield was. IE, like how Star Trek's first teaser was overly simplistic, but it was nothing but more solid information from then on out.

This is looking pretty good. Looks like it is an alien like thing. But with abrams directing and spielberg putting his name on it, I am excited. I like the little mystery. What sucks though is that this is so far away from being released which sucks. But I enjoyed cloverfield, and I am hoping for the best for this one.

I'm excited about J.J. Abrams directing this, for the most part.

Last time Spielberg put his name on something it was Transformers 2, lol.

I have never in my life seen a trailer bomb in front of a crowd. But today I witnessed it. Personally there isn't anything to get excited about with the trailer. But I couldn't help but laugh at the huge groans & what the f**ks that came from the audience.

I know it's too early for info to start leaking out about the movie, but what's the budget for this one, if that is known?

Nevermind, I see it. I don't believe this budget either. Would have to see more to really judge if this is going to be good or just a CGI smorgasboard.

Saw the trailer for this during IM2. I thought it looked kind of generic.

So an alien/monster escapes from a train in the middle of nowhere. That doesn't really say much or offer a unique angle on the alien/monster-on-the-rampage scenario to pique my interest.

And having Spielberg tied to this doesn't mean anywhere near as much as it would have 20 years ago, for me.

Hopefully they'll release a better trailer/teaser.

"From Producer Steven Spielberg" doesn't mean as much to me as "From Director Steven Spielberg". This guy needs to get his act together and start directing movies again. Am I the only one who is slightly annoyed by the fact that he has been doing anything but directing, and future projects include a story about a race horse?

I agree PsYkOoOoO.

He's not 'hungry' enough anymore (He's way too filthy rich now, same with George Lucas and all the older studio). No one creates like a starving artist. Maybe he should fast a month or so before returning to filmmaking. :)

Just directing isn't enough. We need him back in his "A" game again.

The last film "producer" Spielberg brought us was Transformers 2

The last film "director" Spielberg brought us was Indiana Jones 4

We need Spielberg to do what Stella did and get his groove back.

Munich didn't come out that long ago. And that was amazing. Ok, it was 5 years ago. But still.

And from then (5 years ago) until now, he's made one movie - Indy 4.

So, you know, that says a lot.

If he made films at the same frequency as he did in the early 2000s, we'd have gotten five to six movies by now. From 2001 to 2005, he made six movies! SIX!

DAN!
05-14-2010, 10:42 AM
Well, he is older now. Back then, he was more ambitious and trying to really build his career. Now he can relax and take things a little more slowly.

But yeah, I hope he gets going and makes more movies. He isn't my favorite director, but his movies are usually well made and enjoyable at the very least.

I wonder how the title will tie in with the movie.

The whole reason the kids get pulled into whatever is happening is because they witness a train with something sinister on it crash while filming a zombie movie with a super 8 camera. I am sure there will be some other tie within the story as well. Maybe he starts filming what is going on?

I think the part in the trailer where the guy is being pulled back into the aisle is a clear sign this monster kill's, as was the sheriff or whoever we hear say "I've got nine missing people" is also a good indicator. I do however get the Spielberg-ian sense of wonder and awe that this film obviously pays homage to from his earlier works like E.T, Close Encounters. Couple that with Abrams knack for thinking outside the box and tense storytelling and I think this film will be even better than the above mentioned Cloverfield (which I loved as well Tolkien) and certainly the best Sci-fi related film Spielberg has been associated with in forever.

Well we don't know it took the 9 missing people we just see a guy being drug and it may be something else and not the thing on the train. A cool twist would be these soldiers are really aliens and this creature was just a simple lizard that got big or a dog.
