View Full Version : The 2008 Presidential Election Poll
Any woman that is crazy enough to have dated keith olberman shouldn't be taken seriously. No one with any sense would date someone like that. Olberman as well shouldn't be taken seriously, since he is indeed crazy himself.
and here is a quote from Laura Ingraham while she was attacking Mccain for many stupid reasons, because that is what she does.
"There are a lot people like Sarah Palin. Bill Kristol, our colleague here at FOX, he thinks the governor of Alaska. I happened to have the pleasure of sitting next to her at lunch last summer. I found her to be delightful, total regular person. I mean, she goes out with her husband on this fishing boat, a commercial fishing boat. She's like a total, you know, regular Josephina."
If that isn't a stupid quality to have in a VP. I am not saying Palin doesn't have good qualifications, but ingram saying that her being a "regular person" would make her a good VP? I hate it when people say stuff like that. If we want a regular person in office, we can pick anyone. The people in the white house are supposed to be the best at what they do, not be "average." If i wanted an average person in the white house i would have taken it over yesterday.
And that whole article on Palin is terrible. First, the democrats are attacking her a lot less than the republicans are attacking the obama camp. And second, it isn't the dems, but mostly obama and biden that are doing it. And saying they are out to "destroy her" is no different than the republicans trying to "destroy" obama. And i dont even like obama. but that article is just someone writing down thoughts in their head without even thinking.

It is not enough for them to beat Sarah Palin, they must destroy her.
I found this to be hilarious. I cannot STAND it when people act as if only one side tries to destroy one another, gimme a break.

Wah wah. These are the same people that said that Hillary needed to learn to toughen up when when people pick on her if she wanted any hope of making it as President. I think its just people finding something to ***** about. If you're going to run for office, regardless of your race, your gender, your political affiliation, etc, you have to let most of the criticism run off your back. Because, lets face it, campaign season isn't really nice to anyone. So quit complaining.

Kristol, who's been around politicians for many years, was talking about how Palin surprised him as not being like most people he's met in those situations. Most people with resume's like Palin are probably self-important snobs. She was just a pleasant surprise to him.

Wait....are you saying Palin dated Keith Olbermann? Nooooo.....really? If that's true then, wow, just wow.
Nope, Ingraham dated him. I saw it on a bunch of talk shows a couple years ago and they said they dated for over a year. It was ironic because they had a tv/political feud with eachother's credibilty and the other media outlets discussed how the two of them dated for awhile. i wasn't talking about Palin
Come on dude.....maybe Olbermann used to be sane long ago. If we're gonna discredit Ingraham for her associations, we can do the same with Obama. Williams Ayers....Rev. Wright???

I wasn't criticizing Kristol. I was criticizing what Ingraham wrote. If she really thinks that being a regular person is the most important thing to run for office, then i think she is wrong. Ingraham could have went to say that Palin got rid of the corrupt politics in alaska, she took on her own party, and so on. But instead of saying what would actually count as good things for Palin, she ignored them and said "she is just your average person." im sorry, but that is a stupid thing to list that as her only, and best quality. Go on the street, and you will find 300 million average people.
what she wrote was a terrible article and her original quote on palin was stupid as well. Palin has a lot better qualities than "being average." if it isn't obvious to you, than you must be blind. And if she wants to talk about attacks and "destroying," they should match the attacks on obama with the attacks on palin, and obama gets WAY more attacks. No one is saying they need to back off! Don't misunderstand my words! The DEMS are scared of her. That's why they are trying to discredit her. That's why they are taking stances on womens' roles in the workplace that they haven't taken before! It's funny!
all of sudden word's like "Mom" and "working" don't go together! :hehe:
I say let them keep bring it on! The more they pile on her, the greater the boomerang effect!!
She is plenty tough! She clean out her own party's corruption! That takes guts.
yeah, hilary never talked about womens' rights. she wanted to keep the woman down. that is why she "let" obama win

i also find it funny that "poking fun at obama" and "destroying Palin" are two different things. If someone posted a stupid picture of palin or mccain, he would call it immature and say "see, here is an example of democrats destroying palin!"
And i find it funny that he says "republicans say this and democrats say that." All he is talking about is what the pundits are saying. i find it funny he holds all these cable news people up so high. they have no credibility, only ratings

Were you not the one that said we SHOULDN'T show who voted what? You could have made it that way. Mighty hypocritical argument.
One has nothing to do with the other.
to be fair, he has stated probably 15 times or more in the other thread who he was voting for. he said it like on every other page. he said he was going to write his friend's name in.
To be fair, if he is so proud of it he shouldn't have cared about saying it one more time.
Trolls are so much fun. In this case - the troll doesn't even know what he's talking about. Apparently there is some sort of issue of his that I'm supposed to respond to. But to steal a word from his post, it's "classic" that he just takes jabs and has nothing to ever add to the conversation. Stick to your comic books peewee - it's about the only thing you really understand. ;)
Keep calling me a troll and not answering. Please keep it up, it's hilarious. And I love that comic books are so low brow to you. I don't subscribe to any series, but I would never make fun of someone for liking Watchmen.
i wouldn't give it away, but it was a stupid argument he started and i just thought i would jump to the end so we could put it to rest.
I started nothing. Since you love to go back and read things, go back and read how it started.
Who are the two people who said they won't be voting? I think that's kinda dumb. You must prefer one of the candidates over the other...

I don't listen to her radio show. But her first and origional thoughts of palin the only good thing she said about her was that she was "average." she said nothing else. she could have said a whole lot more, but all she said was that she was "Delightful" because she was a "regular josephine." that was all she said. Nothing about her other good qualities. sure, of course now Ingraham is saying a lot more about palin now that she is the nominee. But before palin was picked, it was really like "oh, she is a nice lady. very normal." Everyone knows that Ingraham was going crazy over the VP pick and going after mccain every freakin day about it for like 2 weeks. She was either hoping he would pick romney or she was scared he would pick lieberman. Then when palin comes up, "oh, she is a regular person" and that is it." but of course, a month later she saying more now about palin, because she is VP. but before that all she said was "she is a regular person." You argue that she could have said more. If you have one comment to say about palin, and all you say is "she is a regular person" than you didn't do her justice. if you disagree with me, than way to support the people you are voting for

this is where i wouldn't know. The attacks you are talking about must be from the pundits on TV. I don't watch much cable news. Only if there is a breaking news story. I don't watch Fox, i don't watch msnbc, i don't watch CNN. I don't know who those people really attack, but from my experience they only attack the people who give them high ratings. They give only opinion, and almost no fact. They always screw up basic terminology when talking about taxes. They are people that get high ratings off of throwing out passionate opinions with no substance. so maybe they attack obama more than mccain or not, i don't know. I dont watch them. But stupid people.... continue to watch them and give them ratings.
But If you look at the "FACTS," and if you look at the attacks from the mccain campaign and you look at the attacks from the obama camp, mccain started negative campaigning way before obama did. and right now they are probably about even because obama felt he had to sink to mccain's level (smart move in my opinion) and start negative ads and saying more negative things about mccain in his speeches, like mccain was already doing.
But yeah, if you watch cable news, you are going to hear a lot of biased opinions. And i don't know too much about them because i don't watch them that much. So i can't judge who they attack more and i personally don't care because i don't value their biased opinion. But if you ask me, from what i have seen, they all have been nicer than they have been in previous years. but i am sure if i watched more i would change my mind.

Because of those shows, we have these fanatics. They breed fanaticism due to the bias, its embarrassing -- there are these idiots who stare stupidly at the TV set thinking they're receiving fair and balanced news. And I dislike all of these terms like "liberal" media, like there isn't "conservative" media. Both sides do it.
I honestly don't know of a single news network that could be considered "fair".
i think the AP is the best source. even that has its flaws. But an AP article is usually what i stick to. They double and triple check their facts and they give little to no opinion.
but going right to the source is the best, as long as you are educated enough to judge for yourself.

Since it appears that "2" people here clicked on the "I will not be voting" tab in the poll up there, I decided to post this little tid-bit that I just read over at JoBlo's. I found it rather interesting myself and it's kind of what I've been saying about the whole voting matter myself... Anyways;
"Every time I tell someone I'm not voting I always get the ridculous: "then you have no right to complain" statement. You mean because I had enough sense not to vote for an idiot that I don't get to complain about what an idiot he is? Give me a break. People have the right to vote. Well, people also have the right NOT to vote. If there is ever a candidate worthy of voting for, I might just go ahead and vote. Otherwise, it's just not going to happen.
And I'll just go ahead and keep on talking about what's wrong with the world and the president. You voters just try and stop me."
IanTheCool
09-14-2008, 05:39 PM
I've always thought that the "you can't complain if you don't vote" is a really weak reason to vote. I've always hated that saying. I do believe in voting, but more because it is a democratic right which we are privileged to have, which many other nations are denied, and so I like to honour that privilege.

I'm a huge Obama supporter, and I also think he will win the election. People are ready for a break from the Republicans being in the White House. The last eight years has been more than enough.
Ewok Droppings
09-14-2008, 08:13 PM
What I don't understand about that argument is that people said the same thing with the house and senate. They got their break and look what happened? Wost congressional ratings in history with nothing done and more bickering. It's not so much the "republicans" per se as it is the political atmosphere these days. Just because you change scenery doesn't mean the grass will be any greener.
because of the procedure, congress moves slow so it won't make much of an impact in two years. That is why they always have such a low approval rating. It is always bad no matter which party is in charge because it moves too slow. The executive can get things done faster, and the republicans held that for 8 years now.
If obama gets elected, a lot of those things he says he will do wont happen. Even a democrat congress wont vote in agreement with him. Mccains, although i don't like it, has a better chance of getting voted in.
Obama and mccain are just too unpredictable for me. Obama comes in with all this big talk and all he has done to show how committed he is, is him changing his mind on it. He was like "we have to get rid of those tax breaks to the rich!" and now he is like "hmmm..... maybe we should keep those for several months...then get rid of them!"
seriously, by the time he is in office he is going to make it permanent. and if he doesn't, congress will. The tax system is a lot more complex than people think. it is not cut and dry at all. people can be like "lower taxes is good" or "no raise taxes is better" but it is very complex. There are a million different types of taxes and how they work.
Ewok Droppings
09-15-2008, 02:48 AM
Well, not entirely. The congress is the general body that writes legislation, the president doesn't write legislation. Congress' job is to get in there and write bills and laws to "change" things. They have a MUCH bigger impact on what laws are passed and so forth than the President does. And a lot of that doesn't take long at all to do. Congressional sessions are where this stuff is hammered out and debated. So for them to have accomplished virtually nothing to this point is where the disdain comes from. The President is typically the face to attach to the problems in Washington, but truth be told the congress is much more responsible for the legislative process.
This is why people have them with such a low approval rating - they promised all of these things and new legislation for this, that or the other and have essentially done nothing since taking power. I think it was time that the Republicans lost control, but the democrats really have dropped the ball thanks in part to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. This isn't something that takes "years" - introducing new legislation happens frequently and definitely within the time frame of a congressional session.

Nancy Pelosi and a wrinkled up, B**ch-asaurus Rex.
If Congress can't get things done then it's their own fault 9/10 times. Sure the Prez will veto things or whatever but they haven't given anything over TO veto.
Congress has really been sitting on their hands for the last 2 years and a large majority of that is because they've been trying to get the White House... they've been so busy with that they've neglected their duties.
The whole point of Congress... their ONLY job is to write legislation (not to say THAT is easy... but that's all they gotta do). The Prez has to do a ton of different things and... Ewok is right... the Prez is the face of Washington's problems. Even if the MAIN problem is Congress... the blame falls on the Prez cause he's the political posterboy.
And a lot of that doesn't take long at all to do.
it is a very long and very boring process. the only ones that don't take long are the ones they throw out half way through. All the president has to do is say yea or nay at the end, which he doesn't even have to do. So is job is a lot easier and a lot harder to screw up.

Well, if you remember the 90's when the republicans took office, they had the "Contract with America" with a list of items that they planned on achieving as soon as they took control. They took control and being led by Newt Gingrich they promised within the first 100 days to introduce 10 bills that they ran on as their agenda. That's 100 days - which is significantly less than 2 years which this current congress has had. The reason I bring that up is because it shows an example of time of how quickly things can get done with a new congress.
When Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took control of the house and senate, they promised sweeping changes, and they have had plenty of time to do that, but they instead sat back and have really accomplished nothing. This is why the argument of "Democrats will change Washington and get it done" doesn't wash with me. They did take control of the house and senate and what's changed? Simply put, it's the same old tired crap and no matter who gets elected this year it will be the same. Bickering, fighting, finger pointing but little progress. The pieces are already in place for the Democrats to really pass some sweeping legislative changes and have been for awhile now - they don't need Barack for that, but instead nothing has happened. That's why they have the lowest rating of any congress. Big promises, no delivery.
sure Newt was fine with the house, but what about the senate ;). It takes both houses, and that is usually the wild card in it.
and as far as approval ratings, i can almost guarrenttee that they were very close if not the same. Historically, congress has always had low approval ratings. And to be honest, i never really agreed on the biggest bills that newt put out there. and some of them i think we are lucky that we didn't have go through in my opinion.
also, Nancy Pelosi is incredibly stupid. The democrats have been picking the dumbest people in their party to lead them.

Well, the 94 election was the same as when the democrats took control in 06 - both house and senate were taken over in 94 by the republicans and legislation got passed very quickly. When I say "congress" I refer to both house and senate. In 06 congress (both house and senate) were taken by the democrats. It's not that they haven't had enough time or it's been a struggle, it's that they don't have anything to offer other other than broken promises. Whether or not you agree with their legislation is irrelevant when you want them to just do something.
i personally would rather them do nothing then do something i don't want them to do ;)

Maybe it's taking them longer because they're actually reading the bills this time around.
i think it is taking them longer now because of iraq. The republican congress before the current one had the same problem. Iraq created a whole bunch of issues that were being argued in the senate and holding things up.

It's not taking them "longer" - Nancy Pelosi promised to have some legislation passed in their first 100 days. It didn't happen. OK, fine, maybe it was delayed. Now - 2 years later her promises of what the democratic congress would do once they took control has not happened at all. That's why people have labeled this the "do nothing" congress. It's for a reason - not just some "delay". They really haven't done what they promised.
that was stupid of them to make that promise. The congress before them was just as bad. Ever since iraq came into the picture, those issues have been front and center. All the domestic issues have taken a back seat. the "do nothing congress" started way before the new congress came into power 2 years ago. Ever since iraq, the congress has done next to nothing. it isn't just the democrats, the republican congress did nothing since iraq as well.
You can't tell me that Iraq has not pushed a lot of important issues away from the light. Just Mccain and Graham arguing over torture all that time set most things back months. And i am not saying that the torture wasn't an important issue, but iraq has screwed a lot of things up. and it has taken a lot of time. The congress is always questioning military leaders, debating about when to leave or should we stay, who's fault it was with the bad intelligence, etc. There are so many issues with iraq, and those are all taking up a lot of time. you can't say they are not. Iraq has been one of the main focus's of congress for the past 6-7 years.

McCain, Obama blast Bank regulators
Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama on Monday both blasted regulators and managers for failing to head off the financial woes rocking Wall Street and called for an overhaul of the rules governing financial institutions.
The presidential nominees' calls for reform came as Lehman Brothers, a 158-year-old investment bank that has been a pillar of Wall Street, announced Monday it was filing for bankruptcy, while Bank of America said it was buying another Wall Street institution, Merrill Lynch.
Lehman Brothers has been hurt by losses in the real estate market, and its stock value has declined 94 percent this year. Merrill Lynch also has been struck by real estate losses.
The problems with Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch erupted as financial markets were still recovering from the government takeover of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Both institutions had experienced troubles as a result of the crisis in the mortgage industry caused by a record number of defaults and foreclosures.
Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, blamed the turmoil on Wall Street, saying it's "more evidence ... that too many folks in Washington and on Wall Street weren't minding the store."
"For eight years, we've had policies that have shredded consumer protections, that have loosened oversight and regulation, and encouraged outsized bonuses to CEOs while ignoring middle-class Americans," the Illinois Democrat said during a rally in Grand Junction, Colorado. "The result is the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression."
Obama has called for modernizing regulations "to suit a 21st-century market" to protect investors and consumers.
McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, told supporters in Jacksonville, Florida, that the problems facing Wall Street would not occur again if he became president.
"You know that there's been tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall Street. People are frightened by these events," McCain said. "Our economy -- I think still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong -- but these are very, very difficult times. And I promise you we will never put America in this position again."
"We will clean up Wall Street, we will reform government," the Arizona Republican declared, adding that a top priority of his administration would be to "replace the outdated patchwork quilt of regulatory oversight and bring transparency and accountability to Wall Street."
McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, echoed his call for reform.
"Guys and gals, our regulatory system is outdated and needs a complete overhaul. Washington has ignored this. Washington has been asleep at the switch and ineffective, and management on Wall Street has not run these institutions responsibly and has put companies and markets at risk," Palin said during a rally in Golden, Colorado. "They place their own interests first instead of their employees and the shareholders who actually own these companies."

I don't think McCain has any experience with the economy, most of the time he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Neither of them know jack about the economy. Whoever makes it into office will not be able to fix our collapsing economy. This nation is crashing fast and when it hits the bottom, a lot of people will suffer. I've been scraping for the past months so I could put away as much money as possible. Obama and McCain doesn't have the financial experience and intelligence to work on repairing our broken economy. They just don't.
To be fair, if he is so proud of it he shouldn't have cared about saying it one more time.
I started nothing. Since you love to go back and read things, go back and read how it started.
I guess it doesn't matter who started it and that last thread ended like crap so i am not going to re-read it. but it was a lot of consecutive posts of you and him calling eachother names without justfying anything. then you were laughing when you asked him who he was voting for. And i don't see what would even justify him answering it. If he did answer it, so what would that do? It would do nothing. And as someone else already said, if you are going to make a poll that keeps is a secret ballet, then you shouldn't nag people for who they are voting for. if you are so interested you should have made the poll open. And if i didn't just say what he already said a million times, the two of you would still be agruing over "why he won't say who he is voting for" which is stupid to argue over.
I found this photo off google and just HAD to post it, lol.
To be fair, we all didn't like it when FA posted "comical" pictures, so if we want him not to do it, we shouldn't as well. and we REALLY don't want him posting any ;)

Well, he's posted a lot from the hospital in the past - so not sure why this time would be any different unless it's serious. He's not even posting Patriots crap in the NFL thread. Even though we disagree on... well, everything, I still hope he's OK.
