Who Is Batman's Next Foe?
As the Internet rumor mill heats up about a possible foe for the next Batman film, writer David S. Goyer (who got a story credit for The Dark Knight) told SCI FI Wire that it's possible the villain may not even be one you've ever heard of.
"There's no reason why we necessarily have to use the same three or four that are still around," Goyer said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego last month. "I mean, Batman's got a wide variety, [a] rogues' gallery. Certainly we used two in the first movie that hadn't been in the films before."
Goyer, who wrote the script for Batman Begins with director Christopher Nolan, was referring to Ra's al Ghul (Ken Watanabe and Liam Neeson) and Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy).
The Dark Knight, written by Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, features Batman's most famous enemy, the Joker (played memorably by the late Heath Ledger), and a second well-known nemesis, Harvey Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart).
And Goyer's comments come as Web sites speculate on which well-known villain (The Riddler? The Penguin? Catwoman?) and which actor (Johnny Depp? Philip Seymour Hoffman? Angelina Jolie?) would play him/her in an inevitable third film in the most recent incarnation of the Batman saga.
But there are plenty of others: Villains that Batman has faced in the DC Comics alone include such familiar and obscure names as Anarky, Bane, Batzarro, Black Mask, Blockbuster, Calendar Man, Catman, Clayface, Cluemaster, Deadshot, Firefly, Hush, Killer Croc, Killer Moth, the Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, Maxie Zeus, Mr. Freeze, Mr. Zsasz, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Ventriloquist and Scarface, according to Wikipedia.
No decision has been made yet on whether to move forward with a third Batman movie, though it's likely one will come together eventually. "It's really up to Chris to decide, and he has not decided whether or not he wants to go back to the well again," Goyer said. "And if he does, I, you know, would be honored to work with him." --Patrick Lee, News Editor

Poison Ivy would be a good choice as the secondary villain. And the main baddie should be either Riddler, Catwoman, or Hush.

I absolutely don't want Angelina Jolie in these movies. I think she is overhyped and doesn't really work for me as any of the characters, it would be like putting Clooney in as Batman.

Completely agree with you there, I think she would draw too much attention to the character and that would just be pointless.
I would love to see Hush, Calendar Man or even Mr. Zsasz as the villains. I mean they are all somewhat realistic and they don't have any ridiculosis superpower.

Wow lol, some serious Maggie Hatin' going on here. She isn't THAT ugly. AND just to set the record straight... she is a very REAL girl (Scarlet Johansson, although hot, is TOTALLY NOT "real". She does make up ads for God's sake. Find a picture without her make up then say that.)
2nd- Depp as the Riddler I'd give a limb to see. I think the Riddler is a completely viable nemesis to bring into the new realistic Batman series. And Depp seems to me to be the perfect man... Can play a charming alter ego for the Riddler and a crazy persona for the Riddler.
3rd- Catwoman... no. Angelina no. Biel no. Maggie obviously not, that was a bonehead statement for that journalist to make. Just flat out... no. It's inconceivable that any woman is going to put up a fight against Christian Bale's Batman. This Batman is about technology and not about superpowers... Catwoman's athleticism and strengths are based on comic book fantasy, not reality.
4th- Poison Ivy was an epic fail not just because of the movie... but who's gonna take her seriously? Just don't kiss the chick, you're safe. And in this new Batman storyline (again realism) controlling plants ain't gonna mesh.
Now... this is just me... I'd like to see Riddler. People get too antsy about seeing numerous bad guys. Look what happened in Spiderman 3. Too many subplots. Just one villian and that's it.
And before it comes out, The Dark Knight didn't have 2 villians. Two Face wasn't a mastermind... he was a pawn and a very short term pawn at that. I love the short fight against Scarecrow and I think they could pull that off with another baddie. A Prologue kinda.
So for me... psychotic enemies work best and a psychotic Riddler or Mad Hatter or something would be cool. And yes... Black Mask could be a cool appearance or something.
PS: On a side note... IF (hopefully not but IF) the Penguin showed up... I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman is an EXCELLENT choice. Probably the most redeeming factor of Mission Impossible 3 was his bad guy act.

Jolie Turns To Porn Star Pal For Catwoman Tips
12 August 2008 4:58 AM, PDT
Angelina Jolie has been asking for advice on taking the role of Catwoman from an unlikely source - porn star Tera Patrick.
The Lara Croft star is said to be keen to sign up for the part if the Catwoman character is resurrected in a future Batman sequel by Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.
Jolie has even been tipped for the role by Julie Newmar - who played the original feline villain in the 1960s Batman TV series.
And the sexy star has been discussing her possible portrayal of the character with porn star pal Patrick, who is a huge fan of the role, according to New York gossip column PageSix.
A source tells the publication, "They are friends and keep in touch via e-mail. She and Angie have a girl-talk thing going.
"After seeing reports that she'll land the lead role, Jolie asked Patrick what she thought. Tera had such insights into the role that Jolie cracked, 'You should do it!' "

What will make you people shut up about Maggie? Honestly, it does not matter. Not everyone needs to be a super model to be in a film. Focus on her acting skills (which are barely above par in The Dark Knight), not her appearance.
It just makes you sound unbelievably stupid. It's no wonder that the same guy who quotes Rambo is the same guy who focuses on the appearance of actresses, rather than their acting skills.

Her acting was average in TDK. It just as average as Katie Holmes. I'm not saying she's a bad actress but her performance wasn't that great. Rachael just wasn't an attractive character to begin with. Yes, I think Katie looks average too.

I'm not sure which possibility is worse...
A: She might actually be considered for a role that shouldn't even be implemented in the first place.
B: She's cocky and arrogant enough to prepare for a role that hasn't even bee implemented yet and, in all likelihood, won't be.
And really... enough on Maggie. Looks aside I thought she was leaps and bounds over Katie Holmes' cardboard Rachael. I mean she was barely in it anyway but the scenes she was were great. There, to me, was not a single weak spot in the acting of that WHOLE movie. (Aside from the extras and bit players, mainly the cops.)

Yeah, Scarecrow is pretty solid as a bit baddie... but I think he's been expired as a serious threat. Riddler is a solid bet.
Also I'd be curious to see what Nolan could do with a Robin character. I know he's opposed to it, but I think he could pull it off if he wanted to.
Maybe Robin, instead of being a sidekick, is an unwelcomed nuisance to Batman. Always showing up to "help" but just annoying him. I don't know, but I think Nolan could do it.

Exactly which is why news articles about her getting the role need to stop. It will only lead to Warner Brothers telling Nolan to throw her in there because they think it would make for a better movie. Have you ever read Kevin Smith's script for Superman? It wasn't bad, but WB was telling him what to put in it and not, like no flying and a gay robot sidekick to Brainiac.

Harry Potter sucks.
Anyway, I doubt Reese is Riddler, unless Reese is Edward and using fake name like Ra's did with Ducard but we already seen that in BB.

It was just a thought. Clearly it needs to be A LOT better than that. But the Riddler does need a...update if he is used.
Personally I prefer to have Poison Ivy and Hush. Poison Ivy because the character was completely murdered in Batman and Robin.

You need to be kicked in the nads until they're useless... you can never procreate.
That was the goofiest Riddler suit ever... and Poison Ivy was murdered in Batman and Robin because she is impossible to translate in anyway other than a campy, comic booky way... Batman and Robin was just bad even at doing a campy, comic booky Batman.
Hush is more of what Scarecrow was in the last movie... he's just not special enough to be the backbone of a film's conflict.

About that poster though... I disagree with the Harvey Dent's death thing. I'm hoping Harvey somehow pulled through (never said he was dead and the producer acknowledged the ambiguity as being intentional) and he makes a reappearance. I think there is much more room for Two Face in this saga.
Only problem... I want the Riddler too, so it's looking like I'm shooting for a Nolan Style "Batman Forever v2.0" lol

When it comes to Batman, the future of the franchise is in Christopher Nolan's hands. That's what a successful reboot with "Batman Begins" and breaking records with "The Dark Knight" will do.
There's a deal for the director to helm a third pic, but he has yet to decide on whether to tackle it yet.
"We have no idea where Chris is going with this," Horn says. "We haven't had any conversations with him about it."

The one with the question mark on the newspaper is too reminiscent of the Joker drawing on the newspapers and pictures. I think they should do what they can to separate the Riddler (who lets be honest will probably be the villain) from the Joker. The Joker had that grundgy, sorta messy look. I think they should take a different approach with Riddler, make him more refined or something instead of just Joker part II.

My thoughts too, Hush is a complementary bad guy... not a backbone. I think Riddler or Two Face has the cajones to ride the primary villian position. I COULD even see Two Face being primary and Riddler being a bit player. But hopefully not lol... too much potential in BOTH characters to revert either to back up status.

Pretty easy, I mean there was no fact that the little ceremony that Gordon was speaking at was a funeral. Could have been dedicating a building to him for all we know (faked his death and all). He might be in the basement of Arkham for all we know. I think that'd be ideal. Just gotta find someway to spring him. Could account for him going a bit crazier... solitary for however long and all.

Aight, here's my Batman 3 synopsis lol.
Batman 3:
Bruce Wayne finally has reason to hang up his cape. With the inspirational image that has been painted of Harvey Dent, a new and just as brave DA has stepped up to fill his shoes. Partnered with Commissioner Gordon's revamped Gotham PD and the hero turned criminal image Batman is portraying, Gotham has had little use for Batman.
Meanwhile, in the basement of Arkham Asylum, Harvey Dent has been tucked away from the public eye. Stuck in solitary with the constant taunts of the Joker and other lunatics, Harvey finally snaps and kills a guard.
The decision is made to move Dent to a more secure facility. One of the guards in Arkham leaks the information to Sal Maroni, who wants revenge for the crippling, near fatal car crash caused by Dent. Maroni hires the criminal Hush to assassinate Dent mid transport.
The attempt goes awry when, as GPD attempt to hold off the ambush, Batman arrives and complicates things. In the confusion, Hush flees, Two Face escapes and Batman is implicated as an accomplice due to his reputation.
Now, in secret, Gordon and Batman must wrangle in Dent while preventing Hush from fulfilling the contract on his life.
-That's my spot treatment lol. I figured that we'd save the Riddler for part 4 as I couldn't find a place for him here lol. And I was debating between Hush and Black Mask as the catalyst, but I think that Hush has more backstory to fit him into the little nooks of the story.

Writer Jeph Loeb on The Dark Knight. (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/08/14/could-the-dark-knight-inspire-a-new-round-of-comics-we-ask-leading-creators/#more-660)
Jeph Loeb (“Batman: The Long Halloween”): “It makes me want to write a third part of the story that I did with ‘Long Halloween’ and ‘Dark Victory.’ If I had any control over it, I would go back and rename ‘Dark Victory’ ‘The Long Halloween II,’ like how George Lucas made ‘Star Wars’ the fourth one, for ‘A New Hope.’ So this would be ‘The Long Halloween III.’
If the first story was about the transition between when the freaks took over from the crime families, and the second was about the destruction of that family, ending when they’re completely in power, the third would be whether or not organized crime could rise up again, and what that would cost Batman’s city.
It puts Batman in a really interesting place. Which is more in the interest of the public good? So the third story would be more one of hope. He may not ever be able to complete his task, but if he inspires someone to do the job, he does. And that’s a good thing. Batman stories can get really bleak when you get down to it, so this would make sense of it all.”
Just bring in Jeph instead on Goyer.

Well instead of writing a new 12 part max-series for the third time, he could work with the Nolan brothers on the script. Long Halloween and Dark Victory fall in the top five best Batman stories and TLH had an influence on BB and TDK.

While it's been said by Bale an' Nolan that they don't intend on having Robin in their films, Jeph Loeb believes he can be introduced after his work on Dark Victory. I think he could work especially after seeing him on TAS. Still I do think they could at least introduce Dick Grayson and the tragic death of his family involving Tony Zucco, still seeing that there is still a Mob influence in Gotham.

Not to get off topic, but I'm getting a little tired of Burton and Depp collaborating. I know they're best friends/possible secret lovers, but not every single Burton movie needs to have Depp or half the cast of Harry Potter in it nowadays. ^LOL...the line that i liked from that article- "filming of the new Batman instalment, provisionally entitled The Caped Crusader, is due to begin in Vancouver early next year".
they dont even know if there is going to be a third batman movie. there is no script yet and nobody knows a thing. i think that would be the worst batman title ever...the caped crusader

Bane, the real Bane, would be awesome. I could see the story going somewhere with that.
If I had a say, Bane and the Riddler would be good, with Talia as a possible love interest if they went that route.
And I'm not going to listen to any article or new flash until I know for a fact that Nolan has said he is doing another film.

I wouldn't mind hearing some more casting thoughts on either character. Other than, you know, the "common" ones that sites keep rumoring. There's a few I wouldn't mind for the Riddler. I have no idea about someone like Bane though.

Not to get off topic, but I'm getting a little tired of Burton and Depp collaborating. I know they're best friends/possible secret lovers, but not every single Burton movie needs to have Depp or half the cast of Harry Potter in it nowadays. Knowing him, he's going to cast Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen Of Hearts. Come on Burton, show some variety. You're cool and all, but seriously, try a new actor.
Agreed.

I think the Riddler make logical sense to include because now that Batman is a fugitive everyone is going to be clamoring to figure out who he is. Bane is more or less for vindication but I could see Nolan fitting him in there.
As for casting.....they're all so....obvious. Not that is bad, but, I don't know...think outside the box or something.

I really hope that when Nolan does say he is making a third that he keeps it hush for awhile on who the villians will be, that way he has more time to pick who he wants. If Warner Brothers get to involved with who they think he should cast...we'll have Bret Ratner directing it and ruining another comic book franchise.

I think Nolan will come back for at least one more, after all he'll be well aware that if he didn't then Warner Brothers would inevitably bring somebody else in to make it and i don't think he'd want his Batman legacy ruined in the way that Tim Burton's kinda was by B&R.

catwoman(but not cher...maybe the chick from the happening)
riddler
two face(he's not dead-HE'S ALIVE)
AND BATGIRL( HELL YEA)
you silly clown. a bat and a cat can't have a love nest. Cats and bats don't even find eachother attractive! creatures tend to mate with their own species.

Hey I was bored so I wrote a one page treatment of how I think the Riddler should be portrayed, sorry its not in script format:
(MIKE ENGEL walks on to the patio and he sees a neatly set up table with a tablecloth, two chairs, a teapot and two teacups. One one side of the table sits EDWARD NASHTON who will later be known as THE RIDDLER. He is wearing a standard suit with a black tie. he is younger about 30 and is VERY clean cut with a rather distinguished look about him and he wears rather normal glasses. He appears to be rather timid.Behind him stands a rather large man who is presumably a bodyguard of some sort)
Nashton: Hello Mr. Engel, please have a seat.
(ENGEL sits down on the other side of the table)
Nashton: Care for some tea?
Engel: Uh yeah, thanks.
(NASHTON picks up the teapot and pours him a cup)
Nashton: I'm a big fan of yours, Mr Engel.
Mike Engel: Hey, thanks! I don't have much of those anymore.
Nashton: Really? Well I think your a fine reporter. Anyways the reason I called you over is to discuss something that happened approximetly one year ago. You were on the news about to reveal the identitiy of the vigilante known as the Batman, when you were cut off by some madman. You never addressed the issue again. I would love it if you shared this valuable information with me.
Engel: (nervously)Oh I was just talking out of my ass. You know, for publicity.
Nashton: Dont take me for a fool. I can promise you that this information will be kept entirely confidential.
Engel: Look I think I better get going.
Nashton: Mike, please!
Engel: No, goodbye.
Nashton: (To bodyguard) could I have my cane please?
(The bodyguard hands him a black cane. ENGEL watches this with a confused look on his face. Suddenly NASHTON hits Engel over the head with the cane. He hits him again and again. NASHTON'S seemingly timid demeanor has now changed to the demeanor of a lunatic)
Nashton: WHO IS THE BATMAN?!
Engel: ( In pain) I DONT KNOW! JUST PLEASE STOP!!
(NASHTON hits him again)
Nashton: TELL ME!
Engel: WAYNE!!! BRUCE WAYNE!!!!
( NASHTON ends the beating. His demeanor changes to the timid gentleman he was before the beating.)
Nashton: Thank you, Mr. Engel you have been most useful.
(NASHTON begins to walk off but is stoppd by his bodyguard)
Bodyguard: Thats it?
Nashton: Most certianly not! We must dispose of him.
(The Bodyguard takes a gun out of his pocket and trys to hand it to NASHTON. NASHTON just stares at the gun in disgust.)
Nashton: A gun? Really? I dont associate myself with those things, because, as you know, I AM a gentleman. You shoot him then come and get me when your done. I'll be in my car completing a crossword puzzle.
(NASHTON straightens his tie and walks off)

Engel was the reporter (which you seem to already know from your written story), so yeah, obviously it wasn't him that knew Batman's identity, but was Reese. Reese is the one who found out and talked to Lucious Fox about it, and then went onto the news, whom Joker told people to kill before he could reveal anything.

Not that I never suspected that he wasn't in deed dead. But you know even though the words were spoken from the man himself, people still gonna say he's lying. And the arguments over the topic will continue til they realize that he won't be in a third film.

He wasn't signed for a second film which is pretty odd. Sure he could get signed for another movie but usually the studios cover their ass. Harrison Ford and Shia were signed for more Indy movies. But its good to hear his character won't be returning, the character had justice performed on everyone involved in Rachel's death. 500 criminals would be released if the real information was revealed, its better to use someone else.

In all fairness to the fanboys, Harvey's death did seem a little ambiguous. If they were that goddamn certain they wanted him to stay dead, they should've done a little better job of removing doubt. Him getting zipped up in a body bag or in a casket or friggin something. Everyone's sorta prone to disbelieving deaths in movies anyway, leave the slightest bit of room and you oughta know folks aren't gonna believe it, so leaving room seems to suggest it might not be so. ****, I'm not making any sense.
