Ok, so lets assume that after Indy 4, Ford and Indiana Jones hang up the fedora. They've talked about making Mutt Williams a new lead character in further adventures already. So here's the golden question...
Would you be interested in seeing a Mutt Williams Adventure?
I for one... would not surprisingly enough. I mean it might be a good movie on it's own merit and that would be all well and good, but I would not look to a Mutt movie with the same anticipatation, zeal and excitement as an Indy movie.
Whereas... for me... an Indy movie warrants a viewing regardless of any other factors, does Mutt Williams hold the same rights because it's Indyverse?
How would y'all feel?

It entirely depends on how Shia does in Indy 4.

I think it would fall right on its backside.

Exactly. I'm not gonna judge to conclusions before watching the movie.
my guess is that it won't happen. but in this world you never know

In a Lucas world you never know... in the REAL world... it shouldn't lol
as a spin off it could work. just as long as they don't think they are going to continue the origional franchise with him. they would need to give shia his own style and persona. but like some others have said, we know almost nothing about his character or how he does in this movie. so there is no way to tell if his character is deserving of his own movie. for all we know it could be a lot smaller part and a boring one, or it could be a high point in the film.

Point still remains though that at some point if you keep making movies within the Indyverse, you're going to hit a snag and put a black mark on the entire franchise.
Now 1 film wont do it... it's when you keep going with spinoffs and sequels and all that for nothing more than money that you tarnish a franchise's rep.
Star Wars is an exception because there is literally TONS of stories and characters and places and adventures happening at the same time with other characters and whatnot.
Indy is not the case.
I don't know... like you said I gotta see the movie... but if there is no Indy... i'd just rather see the franchise put to bed and allow it to become a true classic and landmark.
you are making it a bigger deal than it is. the frachise has ALREADY spun off into a tv show and other things and yet the franchis maintains its honor. in fact, the tv show is actually considered a respectable show. though i admit, i have only watched maybe one episode

Yeah but the show revolved around Young Indy
which is about the same age as shia...if they can make it work for a young indy, then they should be able to work it for an indy jr. i am sure they will have similar characteristics. but i don't know if shia's character is going to be like indy or different. but i don't see why it is so hard to see it as a spin off with the ford's indy... if it had ford's indy it wouldn't be a spin off, it would be a sequel.

I know, that's what I'm saying. They shouldn't do a spin off, if they wanna continue anything Indy it needs to be a sequel.
well, if they can pull off a tv series and tv movies, i see this as a possibilty. not to mention spielberg REALLY likes shia and has taken him under his wing. i wouldn't be surprised if this went through. i am not saying it is a good thing, but doing something other than a sequel has worked well before

Yeah, I mean I got no problem with Shia and i'm sure he's good in Indy 4...
I guess my beef is that I grew up on Indiana Jones and it was Harrison Ford and the Whip and Fedora are what that is all about to me.
I just think that continuing without that is almost disloyal. That's all.
I think i would be interested in this. As long as SS and GL were still at the helm. I can imagine that this would be their opportunity to hand over the reigns, and for someone else to have a go at the franchise.
Although, Shia seems to have a good career head on his shoulders, and i dont believe he would be involved without the two of them. He'd be too afraid of this being the Catwoman spin off to Batman. i.e. never living upto the original character.

Ok so I just walked out of the movie... and I must retract my statements. I think I might see a Mutt Williams film. Shia was excellent in the movie and I think it was the first role where I saw him as an adult (as did the preview for his next film Eagle Eye). Kudos to Shia... I know want to see more of him in action flicks.

Aside from the monkey swinging I did enjoy Shia in the movie. The kid has grown on me. I didn't care for him when he was a Disney kid, co-star on I, Robot and Constantine. But...Disturbia, Transformers, and now Indy IV have made me like him.
I like Shia, and am a firm believer we're witnessing the growth of someone who is going to be one of the biggest starts of the next decade. And once his profile has got to a big enough stage, i think we will be seeing the Mutt Movie.
