This was one of the better titles to come out in the past couple of years. Unfortunately I say was because the last issue was released about 2 weeks ago.
Sorry.

Yeah good series. Go to wiki and look it up. Shia Lebauef is going to be The Last Man.
Sounds cool, i really like the idea of a last human man and an ape boy left. Really cool...
If Y is confusing you, Y has to do with the chromesone Y.

Yeah I think Shia would play a good Yorick. I recently read everything in the series curtosity of my local public library. Infact as graphic novels go the local library system is hard to beat. I got in to Brian K. Vaughan's stuff reading The Runaways then Y:The Last Man and now Ex Machina. If you want another great series of graphic novels that hits in the vein of end of the world, definitly check out Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" Great story lines.

The Walking Dead is well written, some parts tend to drag but the action scenes are down right great. The writing is well written to me and well the drawings are great as well.

Read the first 4 trades through my library but 5/6 have not been returned for over a year. But new ones are on order then I plan on going right to 10 and finishing the series. Love the series and hopefully the movie trilogy turns out well. Will be starting Ex Machina soon and love The Runaways as well.

I think Y is going to be a great movie, as long as they don't try to smash everything into one movie. It would work out great if they put a few together and keep leading up to the end in sequels. Shia is a great choice for Yorick, he's pulled off that type of character before.

Tracie thoms may look the part but imo she is too old 355 is suppose to be like 26 or 27 years old Tracie is like 34 she would not be able to pull off being a year or so older than shia i say choose :
Zoe Saldana who has starred in Terminal/Pirates of the Caribbean/Vantage Point an the upcoming Star Trek and Avatar films

I'm more concerned with the acting talent. If the actors look like them, so what? The film falls flat on it's face without quality acting.

Just finished volumes 7 and 8 last night. Almost done! :) :(
Very cool series. I was wary after the first trade volume, but it picked up quickly after that. Not gonna lie, last issue made me choke up. Vaughn's writing is solid, but he always explains his puns or overstates his pop-culture jokes. Drives me crazy. The writing in Ex Machina is stronger I think, but I do like the clean style of Y's art more.

I thought the ending demonstrated an impressive maturity and restraint on Vaughn's behalf. Not to mention slight brilliance. The ending works because it is a marriage of a very high (very cool) concept with a realization that if you're still in it by issue 60, you care about the characters, not the virus conspiracies. It really made the series for me.

Y is just like Preacher...there is way to much story to make into a single movie. A mini-series on HBO or Showtime would be great cause then you can tell the whole story and not leave anything out.

They said the same thing about Watchmen.
Midway through volume 9 now. Man, that was a neat little twist.
The only thing that bothers me with this series is that it once the main plot kicks into high gear, they go right to a flashback. I love that they're trying to fill us in with every detail about these people, but I wish they'd handled that a bit better.
Still, it might be the best series since Watchmen.

I am with the people who liked the ending. I got into the series about 10 issues before it ended. I ended up reading the first fifty issues in one sitting and got hooked into the series.
I enjoyed the way things were explained in the final book and how it ended. YOu do not need a huge ending to make a great ending.

My Review of
Y: The Last Man Volume 10
http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww315/buddhistwisdom7/16582860.jpg
I just finished it a couple minutes ago. Man its werid to be done, considering I`ve been reading this series for years. I just finished volume 10 of 60 long, fantastic issues. And I am blown away. When I started this exaustingly dense series with volume #1, I would have never imagined such an original, and provocative conclusion. Wow. I am truly saddened to be finally done. This is the best comic series I have ever read, and personally I liked this series better than watchmen I think. And thats saying something cause I love watchmen. The reveal of the answers to the plague was CRAZY in volume 9. But the shocks and twists that come in this volume are insane, and will have you shaking your head in awe.
As Yorick finally meets Beth in paris, what happens next is one of the most unexpected, and ironic things i`ve ever witnessed. Things indeed don`t shake down the way there suppose to. These characters stories are completely, and permanently wrapped up. When reading the first couple pages its astounding how this doesn`t feel like a finale. But when you see the haunting last image, it will most definitely have felt like an ending. Sure Yorick and beth could have lived happily ever after, and Agent 355/Dr. Mann could have led happy lives somewhere, and everything would be joyful. But the ending of this series was like the polar opposite of that.
This ain`t no fairy tale ending. The tragedy, and unexpected moments that happen after Beth and Yorick meet is honestly heart breaking, almost to the point of making me produce tears. And the epilogue can only be described as a true mindf**k. I figured from the cover of the volume they may have a flash forward somewhere in here. But dear christ I didn`t think they`d take it so seriously. Talk about unexpected. The conclusion to the character Yorick is both deeply philosophical and thought provoking. A beautiful way to finish his character.
Despite that for the most part things ended jaw droppingly horrible for most of our characters we`ve come to like, I loved the ending. I thought it took alot of balls to end it like that. It wasn`t until this issue that i realized how much fun I`ve enjoyed watching these characters for the last couple years. Its incredibly moving to see everything come to a close. But sh** was it done magnificently. Though this series had its minor flaws, but its closer to perfect than any comic I`ve ever read.
10/10
A must read series. A masterpiece. A classic.

I'm not sure if anybody is going to be reading this, but I am going to post it anyway. I've just read the series again, and I've got a couple of things I'd like to say about the series.
The series is definitely one of the best comic book series out there right now. It is indeed a pity that the story had to end, considering the way that it ended. Again, while the ending is satisfying to fans of the series, I still feel that it was incredibly rushed in a way that seems somewhat uncharacteristic of the writer. A story with such a great premise deserves a kind of send off that is worthy enough, and the last volume certainly achieves that for the most part. However, two things did not sit very well with me after I finished the last page of the last volume. First of all, Hero and Beth's love relationship towards the end completely came out of nowhere, something that was never even hinted at throughout the series. It felt like it was a twist that Brian K. Vaughan randomly thrown in for reasons that I cannot yet figure out. I understand that the world is now full of girls and just one guy, but main characters spontaneously turning into lesbians?
Next, I thought Alter's motives were a little lame. OK, it was very very lame. Alter has always been a single-minded killing machine, always on the back of Yorick's tail, chasing him throughout the world. Although I have been puzzled by her unneeded viciousness throughout the series, I understand that the series needs a villainous figure such as herself one way or another. She's always seem to be over-reacting to everything, and her reasoning in finding the last man for the sake of Israel never really convinced me. During the final confrontation when Yorick finds out why Alter has been after him all this time, I find her reason to be, well, lame as hell. Maybe I don't GET IT, but I suppose I expected a little bit more from her. Sometimes, villainous characters don't exactly need to have a reason to be a villain, because the reasons may not exactly be as exciting as we thought. I mean, just look at The Governor from the Walking Dead series. Alter would probably wet her army pants if they met, truth be told. We don't really know why The Governor is as evil as he is, we don't know much about that guy. That guy is just pure evil, and he doesn't need a reason to do the vicious things that he does. Yet, I prefer him as a villain.
This is a minor point, but I didn't like some of the artwork that went into the series. I think the penciler did a great job for the most part, but the one complaint that I have is the differentiation between the characters. It wasn't so bad the second time around, but I remember being really confused between the two Beths and Natalya, even though one of the Beths has a scar across her face. All the female characters look the same, and I can't find a good way to tell them apart.
Next, the real reason behind the "plague". I don't remember a clear explanation being given in the series. I suppose the semi-official reason behind the plague is the cloning of Dr. Mann and how mother nature negated the need of men. However, while it seems remotely possible, Dr. Mann's father and his motives in killing himself and Yorick never failed to come off as being forceful. In fact, everybody that wants to eradicate all men in the series feels like they weren't half convinced by their own words either. The Amazons, for example, spend half the time trying to wipe out any traces of the patriarchal society, and the first thing they wanted to do to Yorick was to kill him - why? What good is there in killing off the last man when it'd also mean a very imminent death of all women? I never bought into their motives, or anybody's motives in killing off Yorick. Like I said, forceful. I'm fine with the reason being somewhat ambiguous, because I don't think the writer knows it himself.
Also, somebody mentioned about Yorick's constant pop culture references throughout the series, and I have to agree with that. Even during the most critical situations, Yorick still has the nerves to come up with some random pop culture reference that baffles even myself. It just seems like the writer tries too hard in molding Yorick into the character that he has in his head. At some point, it becomes a little annoying for some reason.
Gilpesh
04-27-2010, 04:49 PM
I find her reason to be, well, lame as hell.
I felt as though that was the point of her motivation. That it was pure crap and quite possibly one of the lamest motivations in the entire world. She has ruined Yorick's life over the years of the series and has stopped at nothing to be the hugest **** ever.... all because she can't kill herself. Which neatly mirrors what Yorick was doing until his intervention and brings Alter down from unstoppable super soldier to a whiny little brat. And that sentiment also describes most if not all of the Amazons in the series. A bunch of misguided whiny brats.
Hm. I guess that would also add to the series' major sort of theme, turning the common misconception that if women ran the world, everyone would be all mature and everything would work fine, on its head.
PsYkOoOoO
04-27-2010, 10:08 PM
