Hello everyone! I was recently introduced to the realm of graphic novels, and fell in love with this medium of art as soon as i picked up Alan Moore and Frank Miller's works. I started with V fro Vendetta and Watchmen, and absolutely fell in love with graphic novels. I moved on to Miller's 300 and was equally intrigued by the level of art and literature involved in the making of these books.
So, i would like to learn more about graphic novels by reading other benchmark-worthy titles. I've heard about The Sandman series but i am unsure because of the number of books involved. I wanted to get The Absolute Sandman Volume One, but i'm not too sure what "Volume One" means. Is there or will there be a Volume Two? Has the story ended?
Anyway, please recommend a couple of other graphic novels for me. Greatly appreciated!

I highly recommend Sin City by Frank Miller! It's excellent, read the whole series what a work of art. Will take some time but it's worth it. Also, I reconmend Hellsing for Manga.

You should try going to super hero hype for this kind of stuff. Click at the bottom of the page.
Most of the GN I read are out of print and not so popular. I have 300 and V but haven't gotten around to reading it. I suck. :)
24 has a series.
I'm going to be starting a series of The Great and Secret Show,Thief of Always is good. Both Clive Barker stories.
I should start reading some Graphic Novels myself. Especially the Batman ones like Year One etc. I should check out Sin City and 300 as well.

Rising Stars is a good series. I've read Vol. 1: Born In Fire, Vol. 2: Power and Vol. 3: Fire And Ash
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Stars#Collected_editions
Also I just finnished Wanted, that's been called the Watchmen for Supervillains, I think it was amazing.

I still have to read Watchmen but I'll get to it sooner or later.

I just started reading The Sandman series. I'm almost done with book 2 now, and I find the Watchmen to be much better. For one, the artistry in The Sandman just cannot be compared with the ones in Watchmen, and the story sort of jumbles up in this one too. I know it is supposed to be this way, but still i preferred Watchmen.

Man thats the problem, theres so many books i wanna read, id have to be a millionaire to afford them all.
In terms of other stuff:
The Preacher series - great if your a dark, twisted son-of-a-*****.
Hellboy are also great - in terms of storytelling Mignola really has the kooky but blue-collar adventure thing down, plus his artwork is beautiful. His work is alot more immediate and light than Alan Moores and less gritty than Millers (the two modern gods of the graphic novel IMO) but his books are entertaining and interesting none-the-less, they are kinda like the comic equivilent of a Indiana Jones movie, shot though a Tim Burton shaped cannon.

Sin City is always a good read.
Deffo, The Hard Goodbye and Dame to Kill for being the two best IMO, closely followed by Hell and Back.

My friend loves Sandman. I myself haven't read it but he has almost all of them. He says it's one of his favorite comics next to Preacher.

I love Death. I think she one of the most interesting characters in the series. I have read a few of her stories and that what got me into Sandman. It's very deep and eclectic heh. It's truely unique in that respect to other comics.

Top Graphic Novels
1.) Sandman-(Prelludes and Nocturnes, The Dollhouse, Season of Mists, Brief Lives, Worlds EndThe Kindly Ones, The Wake, and Endless Nights are the best) 1-7 may not have excellent art but Wolds end through Endless Nights is great. It mixes greek mythology, biblical and 1800's literature into Gaimans own creative, dark world.
2.) Preacher- offends alot of people, including myself, but it's more entertaining than pretty much all other comics. Great for fans ofTarintino, and Kevin Smith.
3.) Fables- An ongoing series of fairy tales living in Exile in New York City. Sonds like a lame idea but it's one of the best, make sure to start with vol. 1.
4.) 100%- My favorite stand alone miniseries by Paul Pope.
5.) Maus- A holocaust story told similarly to Harvey Pekar and Robert Crumb, and the winner of the Pultzer Prize.
6.) Batman the Dark Night Returns- Frank Millers legendary Batman arc, before Sin City.
7.) Y: The Last Man- Ongoing Series compared as the Lost and 24 of comic books.
8.) Son of the Gun- Surrealistic crime story from underground, spanish film-maker Alejandro Jedoworsky (El Topo, The Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre)
9.) Sin City- A Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, A Dame to Kill for are the best, That Yellow Bastard has good stuff and bad stuff, Hell and Back is really bad.
10.) From Hell-From Alan Morel,(Watchmen, V for Vendetta)
Best Marvel (These are the best Stories, not the Stuff comic book geeks like)
Punisher Max (Garth Ennis) the writer of Preacher
1602 (Neil Gaimen)
New X-Men (Morrison)-114-117 is one of the best X-men arcs I've read.

9.) Sin City- A Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, A Dame to Kill for are the best, That Yellow Bastard has good stuff and bad stuff, Hell and Back is really bad.
Hell and Back is the thickest Sin City book and although its not the best its up there. I mean i love them all but Booze, Broads and Bullets vignettes storylines dont lend themselves to a great graphic novel so is the worst IMO. In fact id have said they are all worth buying but if you cant afford them all, missing out on B, B and B wont do alot of harm.
Good shouts on the other stuff though.
In anticipation for Batman Begins 2, its time to get Alan Moores The Killing Joke bought too, as it will form the basis of the Jokers back story. Plus its bloody good.

The graphic novel version of "The Fountain" is pretty impressive! Especially if you're looking to get swept up emotionally. I highly recommend it, and it's very affordable too at only $20. Plus, it's oversized...Yah!

Now that their is talk of a Wanted movie you really should read the book first coz there is no way it'll live up to the book.
