Stupid episode, stupid ending, but...

At least Starbuck will finally grow a pair and kick some ass, now.

Stupid Moments: Episode 13

- Pointing the thermal scanner up in the air to find the snipers.
- CTU agent freaking out and breaking formation.
- Chloe pulling a gun out because she disagreed on protocol.
- Not really a "moment" per se, but, CTUs background checks for high ranking jobs.

Or just make squishy annoyed faces at her while sighing.

And she's certainly good at that. I hope she wins the Emmy for most pathetic character.

Her storyline is definitely the worst subplot they have ever come up with. And my friends, that is saying something. Does Milton really think that a CTU director, in the middle of a crises, cares about his petty investigation? Stupid stupid stupid.

Wait, a mole in in CTU?!? GET OUT OF TOWN!!

You would think the writers, after 8 seasons, would say 'you know, the whole CTU having a mole angle is getting weak since we've done it every season without fail, lets not do it this time.' I guess I was wrong.

So did redneck boyfriend know she was a mole? Because that would be the only way that whole thing made any sense at all.

Unless she was recruited in jail and trained after she got out while he was still in, which would explain how a dumb blonde bimbo could fake an identity well enough to fool a government agency.

I'm relieved it's canceled because I wasn't going to be watching next year and I didn't really want there to be new 24 I wasn't watching, but at the same time I'm disappointed it's going out like this. The past 7 seasons have been filled with a lot of hit (1-3, 5 and parts of 7) and miss (4, 6, and parts of 7), but it's always been entertaining. This is the first year I've ever seen watching the series as a chore. I used to call this one of my favorite shows; while it would still be among those favorites, it has certainly fallen with this last season.

Fair enough. I know I would've watched it if it went on, though. Sadly, a lot of my favorite shows are near cancellation. Lost is done in a few episodes, Heroes might not come back, Smallville will probably end next year and 24 is now officially cancelled. I have other shows I watch but those are the ones I'm most devoted to and I don't see anything replacing them (I would say Flashforward and V but they might be cancelled too).

Tornado

Yeah, I know what you mean. BSG ended last year, Lost is done this year, Smallville is (likely) done next year, Dexter will probably be over fairly soon... all I'll be left with are Mad Men and comedies. The difference is that all of them (... well, you could argue with the exception of Lost) are on or went out on creative highs. And even Lost has been good this year, even though I have more issues with it than I have in the past. Unfortunately, 24's longevity has caught up to it. There are only so many times you can have a nuclear device, a toxic gas threat, or a mole in CTU. It gets old. I don't remember them having a specific threat in Season 1, but they did nukes in Seasons 2, 4, 6 and 8, and gas threats in 3, 5, and 7. And they've had moles almost every year. It's tiresome.

I agree, I remember the old days where I would want to watch the next episode right away. If I was watching anything else at the 9 pm slot, I would probably record 24, and get around to watching later in the week. I would really force myself into watching it like I do with some shows.

they had a damn good hook to that season. one of the better seasons. Everything with Logan was great, it had some very good twists, and it hadn't jumped the shark yet. while i still liked season 7 a whole lot, the show jumped when Tony came back. It paved the way to do anything despite the logic of it.

And then Jack slips in the shower and dies. Kinda like Patton dying from injuries sustained in a fender bender. What could be better?? :hehe:

Which is why not having a CTU and having the plot revolve around an assassination attempt worked for much of Season 7. It was a new refeshing thing. I feel like Season 8 has fell back onto the same crutches that propped up earlier bad seasons and failed. It's worse than season 4 right now, although not quite as bad as season 6 (Noah Daniels and the doctor from DS9 were the only good things about that season)

The thing that worked really well with the Logan twist was that the audience has already seen him as a cowardly lion type character beginning at the end of season 4. I was shocked to see him with any kind of confidence, let alone as a criminal mastermind.

I've always wanted 24 to return to a more simpler threat, like maybe what season 1 had with Jack, Palmer and the Drazens, or better still, like 24: Redemption was. It's not like Jack needs to be Captain America in every season. I'd take good interesting story over mindless action any 'ol day if they did it right. But unfortunately, we'll never see that.

Give me a break. Maybe if they wouldn't resort to such lazy and tired ideas they wouldn't have such a backlash on their hands. Also, be patient? We're 14 episodes in. They have had more than enough time to do something interesting with her.

rewatch the scene he has on the plane with Nina in season 2, or when he has to kill chappelle in season 3. Hell, even the end of season 6, or the end of the 4th episode of season 6. How about his moments with Kim last season? He's like a robot now.

It's nothing new but better than going in some ultra unrealistic plot directions.

Tornado
03-31-2010, 11:18 PM
Ultra unrealistic? Like Jack being stabbed and shot three times in the span of a few hours, and suffering no lasting damage? This season they have not even made an attempt to account for distances between locations. Jack has gotten into a car and gotten to his destination in the span of a commercial break several times this season. Ultra unrealistic stuff happens all the time on the show (for example, the entirety of CTU this year). And quite honestly, I would rather see them take a plot in an insane direction at this point. They have nothing to lose at this point, and at least it wouldn't be boring like the season up to this point has been so far.

It's a shame that this season is so bad, and that Season 7 couldn't wash the taste of Season 6 out of our mouths completely, becuase Renee Walker is one of the best "good guy" characters they've had on the show.

Oh, this show's still on? I just figured after the show got the axe, there would be one more scene of Jack walking into a Denny's, and finally eating something. Right over his shoulder, two nuclear bombs go off, and as the camera pans towards him and closes on his face he says "What, we're canceled."

But seriously, can Jack NOT have happiness? Hasn't he deserved it after 8 seasons? I was really hoping Renee would stay alive.

With the way the show has been going the last couple of weeks, I have faith that they can end it on a high note.

Life sucks for Jack Bauer.

I wholeheartedly agree. The show really IS back on track. Man what a nailbiter leading up to Hassan's failed rescue. And now the bloody Russians. And how sorry I feel for Jack. Is Kim and his Granddaughter all that is left for him to live for now? Can't believe his brother and father were evil bastards well Philip most of all. Jack really is living a troubled life. Really hoping he gets his happy ending.

Tolkien

Jack Bauer is meant to be the hero we need, not the hero we want him to be. To have him end his run with a happy life away from all this drama would be too simple. I hate to quote Dent here, but you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. That being said, I kind of saw it coming once the guy got into a sniping position but was still hoping for the best. Too bad.

Alright, that was just a bit ridiculous.

Chloe has more experience and better instincts than anyone there. The gun incident was not reported so that does not come into play. What does come into play is the fact that she got CTU up and running in half the time after the EMP and throughout the entire series has been one of the most stable people there. It is a temp thing anyway and out of everyone there that we know of she is probably the next in line anyway since Dana is gone.

I agree with Doom, that was kind of a stretch that a computer analyist got to run CTU. How would she even know to run whatever it is she ran on the dead guy to look for poison?

I never really got into the whole Jack and Renee thing. They weren't really that close last year, and it seemed they rushed into it this year. I wasnt shocked to see Renee die, but I didnt see it coming either.

I'm still holding out whether or not this show is back on track...

Tolkien
04-13-2010, 12:04 PM
The way she was put in power was a stretch, clearly. But the reason behind it isn't ridiculous at all. She has more talent than anyone in that building. She's been the tech savior for the last... how many seasons now? What got me angry was the fact that this season didn't open with her already the head of CTU. To me, that was the ridiculous part.

Duke-Leto
04-13-2010, 12:33 PM
She is really excellent at what she does and her character does probably deserve to be higher up but I just do not see her being a permanent leader. Her people skills are horrible BUT she does have the experience and know how to run CTU properly. As much as I like Chloe and think it would be cool, she wont end up being the boss for long. Then again we only have 6 hours left so she should be running it until the day ends. She wont be running it during the movie though.

And how much younger Keifer looks in Season 1.

It's one of the biggest changes in any series I've seen. A close second would be John Krasinski though, he hardly looks like the same person from Season 1 until now.

No it didn't. By no means did it have to happen. It's just another shock move by the show. Killing off Hassan as they did was brilliant; killing off Renee the following week is just a lack of effort. If they wanted Jack to just go crazy on the Russians, there are other ways to go about that.

I'm sorry Duke, but you're just dead wrong here. Of all the things that could have happened to get Jack back into the game again, Renee dying DID NOT NEED TO HAPPEN. AT ALL. PERIOD. Stop trying to make the death of one of the few interesting characters logical by saying it was the only way to get Jack into the game again. That's plain stupid. Now if you want it to be in your opinion, fine. But it's not fact. So stop being childish with the "I win" stuff.

Look, great television is not defined by shocking moments/deaths. I hate that when writers want to change things up, inevitably one of the first reactions is, "Who should we kill off?" or "What crazy thing should we end this episode with?" '24' has been doing this for years, and it has always bothered me. I've managed to look past it because of the quality of the writing, but that hasn't been here for most of this season. It's a problem I have with a lot of shows; 'Lost' is a big proponent of this. Some of my favorite episodes of that show end with the characters just sitting around on the beach, trying to make the best of a horrible situation. I've even audibly said, "Oh give me a break," a number of times as that show has ended. The same goes for '24'.

While I'm very clearly biased as Renee was my favorite character of the series behind Jack (but ahead of others like Palmer, Tony, Michelle, etc.), the show doesn't have to go this way. We've watched Jack kick ass for over 7 years now, if anyone deserves a break it's him. And because of that, I would have loved to see the series end with Jack and Renee leaving for LA to be with his daughter and her family.

I've been incredibly disappointed all season long. I would say, of the 17 episodes which have aired so far, there were maybe three that I actually enjoyed. I guess it's my fault for expecting the show to suddenly get better, because it's clearly not going to happen at this point.

After thinking it over, I've decided killing Renee was indeed a cheap tactic. I agree, there were other options to keep Jack involved and they took the easy way out. I'm angry cause I actually wanted that happy ending for Jack.

If I wrote this episode, I would've had Renee get shot, but nothing fatal. She would spend the rest of the season in the hospital, after giving Jack the info on the Russian she recognized. Jack would then keep going for her sake as she gets treated or whatever.

I think that would've been better.

Being childish and joking with someone are two different things. You can get off your high horse and kiss my behind for all I care buddy. Do not tell me how to post. You are not my father and I have no reason to respect you or what you say.

As far as my opinion, yes it is just that and I am sticking to it. I believe she had to go. The show is over Jack would have no reason to come back. He made that clear to Hastings, his deal was done and he was leaving. No reason to come back at all. With Renee dead he has a reason to come back. It is cliche and gimmicky but that is what 24 has been pretty much its entire run, minus the first 2 seasons. The only other thing that could have gotten him back involved would be his daughter/grand daughter being kidnapped or put in harms way and HOW many times has that happened now? Renee's death was the best option.

Hey, well at the very least we now know that Jack still has sex. But, the jury's still out on whether or not he goes to the bathroom regularly.

Killing Rene was a boring move. This season seems like they hired a bunch of writers that just wanted to take some shock value from other seasons. There's nothing really interesting going on here. The twists just don't really seem all that exciting anymore. Hassan's death was the only real surprise. Disarming the bomb with 7 seconds left was Hollywood cliché. 24's best seasons are behind them. Since this has been announced as the final season, I can only hope they end it with something interesting. Last season's finale was pathetic at best.

Reminded me of an interview Amber Benson did some years back...

AB: It's always better to go to the bathroom than to sit there with truck-drivers' bladder.

BTM: "Truck-drivers' bladder"? What's that?

AB: I heard that truck drivers on these long hulls, they never go to the bathroom, and they stretch their bladders out of shape.

BTM: You're kidding.

AB: Someone told me that. If you wait too long, you can actually damage your bladder. Hence; truck-drivers' bladder.

Good episode, not great, just good. I was surprised by Chloe's decision but the outcome worked for me. Maybe Cole won't be such a tool after all but time will tell. I just hope next week wraps up Dana for good. I am tired of her horrible looking, scowling face. Makes me want to puke. How Katee Sackhoff became an actress I do not know.

The Logan/Taylor team up was shocking. Taylor has always been intelligent and even under pressure she has been able to not lose it mentally. Last season she made great decisions the entire run even when it came to her daughter. Now she is under a little stress and making stupid decisions. It does not fit her character well.

Next week seems like an action episode though so looking forward to it and hopefully the death of Dana. I will celebrate with nachos and a whiskey sour when she goes down.

I couldnt disgree more. I'm not a big Dana fan, but I have no problems with Sackhoff.

I actually really like the whole President Taylor thing too. She is becoming so much like Logan now. Thinking that what she is doing is for the good of the country, that she is willing to cover all of this up. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that Logan is there, but I still love it.

I completely agree with Rosie O'Donnell. She's not really a woman, she's a she-man beast. Big difference in attacking those. They can actually beat you up most of the time.

As for the series - did anyone else feel like this last episode was like some amateur writer picked up a temp job and wrote some plot points for the show and should stick to video game storytelling instead?

"Let's give Jack like this really cool MP5 and then we'll totally like make him pull a fast one on Chloe because he's Jack and knows like everything and then we'll make the President totally do the peace deal instead because nobility sucks and then we'll like have them water board Katee Jackoff because water boarding is what the bad secret guys do anyways and then next episode we can throw in some explosions and things!"

It's like they hired some Michael Bay hack to pen this season at times. So many clichés, so few episodes left. Give Jack gun, make cool episode.

Overall, last season had a disappointing ending, the season before that was pure crap (see Wade as most ridiculous "President" ever) and this season showed signs of promise but has been coated with pure cheese too often. Since it's the last season, I feel a duty to finish it, out of respect for having loved the show in previous seasons and watching every episode up to this point, but I think they could have ended it a few seasons ago and been a lot better off.

Oh, one last thought - Chloe, who was so willing to pull a gun to restart the system (or whatever made up crap she did technologically) is now some benevolent by-the-book head of CTU just a mere couple hours later? STUPID! You've ruined 24, quit ruining Chloe's character. :(

"The May 24 series finale will find Jack squaring off against his most formidable adversary yet: Chloe! “Chloe and Jack are in a real face-off,” reveals executive producer Howard Gordon. “And Chloe has to decide between her duty [as head of CTU] and her friendship and allegiance to Jack. Their relationship gets put to the test in a way it’s never been tested before. It’s a collision course that culminates in the finale. It’s about as hairy a confrontation as you can possibly imagine, and it’s a nearly lethal one.” Playing those scenes was “really fun” and “very emotional,” says Mary Lynn Rajskub. “[It's] kind of crazy…what happens between Jack and Chloe. I honestly felt that Jack saying ****-you to Heller after that season was incredibly well deserved for what he went through in seasons 4-6. The ending of that season was only diminished by the fact that the season sucked ass.

My dream season 6 would've been Jack brainwashed by the Chinese and his former friends trying to stop him/un-brainwash him/save him. That would've been badass, with Jack as the bad guy. That season was completely blown. We had the horrors of season 4, and season 5 gave us hope--probably the best season they've had, then they blew it.

Yeah, at least the series should end on a somewhat high note.

Did anyone else find it a complete lack of a mystery who Jack would actually find the Russian calling? It's not like it was really the surprise they made it out to be.

And now Chloe is suddenly back on Jack's side. Convenient storytelling.

Yeah I agree. I thought we already kind of knew that Logan was behind it.

I hate that we missed the Russian guy getting poked to the floor but besides that a great episode. I just hope that his rampage ends with slicing Logan open for lying to him, although he did know he was lying which is why he bugged him but still he deserves it more than anyone!

Yeah, that's probably true.

And I thought that not seeing Jack attack the Russians was more effective than seeing it would have been.

Yeah I liked the complete WTF moment of panning back to the room and they're already dispensed with.

I don't think I've enjoyed 24 as much in recent years as Logan cowering in the limo once he realized Jack was setting up the ambush. It was scene-chewing, overacting awesomeness.

How many other seasons have ended with Jack on the run or in exile? Dammnit it all. It's my own fault for expecting Jack to actually kill Logan or to see Tony and/or Aaron show up in some key fashion, or to expect anything other than a set-up for a feature or made-for-TV movie.

ViRUs
05-24-2010, 10:15 PM
I agree, only myself to blame.

I feel like this finale could have been done SO much better.

Why have Bauer keep Pillar alive only to have Logan kill him?
Speaking of which, If Logan was going to kill himself, why even kill Pillar in the first place? I would think knocking him out would be fine. I'm no legal expert, but both of them were just following orders, they could work they're way out.
Did Jack only record himself and ther was no evidence?
If that is the case, why did Logan even give it to her?
Did Jack just record for someone to see? Or did he intend for it to get to the president.

That last one probably could have been answered, but it doesn't really matter. They tried so hard to have action in this, that they completely forgot about the story. It's a shame 24 went out like this.

The ending was ok though. Yeah Jack is on the run in another country, but he's alive so I'll take it.

So the series ends.... pretty much like Season 4 ended. Oh well, at least there were some really good moments like Jack's video (even though it was pretty forced), and the Chloe/Jack stuff.

It was a good episode, and a good finale but not great or breath taking or even memorable in anyway. I know they are leading up to a movie but they could have not ended the show in that manner. Basically another finale that is just open ended to get you to watch the next season, or in this case the movie. Disappointing.

Great acting from Rajskub, Sutherland, and Jones. I expect one of them to take home an Emmy for sure.

Maybe, but I doubt that the Emmys would nominate two people from the same show in the same category. I would find it hard to believe that none of them would get a nomination at least on the final season. I think Lost will kind of do the same thing.

The ending for me was good but not great. Then again in my mind their was only 2 possible endings.

1) Jack dies
2) Jack escapes

My buddy was hoping that he would become head of CTU but that was shot down once he went on a rampage.

Loved the fact that Logan has severe brain damage instead of being dead. Sweet poetic justice.

Same here. Wasn't blown away by the ending but Mary-Lynn Rasjkub really seemed to be crying at the end. To be honest it was an emotional ending just for our family.

We got turned onto 24 about 4 years into the series, never really paying it any attention, and then we all got hooked. Some series were definitely better than others but we spent a lot of time watching Jack's exploits and I'm going to miss that... a lot. Never got interested in Lost but now that 24 is officially done there really isn't any other tv show that interests me. Prison Break was the other and its through too.

Didn't like the open ended ending. Just seems wrong that a tv series, who's bread and butter was the television format, is resorting to a movie to really wrap things up for good. They had there run and just be happy with all those years of quality tv. Stop milking the cash cow but hopefully the movie, if it actually gets made, is a proper send off.

So gutted its over!!!

Nearly 9 years of my life following Jack and his adventures.

Personally i'm glad they left it open for a film, it would have been more apt to kill him off but then we would have been denied future stories :)

I gotta find a video of it but, 24 in Hawaii has always been followed by the 10pm news with them opening with the lead anchor (Joe Moore) a diehard 24 fan, always giving his two-cents about the episode. Anyways, last night it opened to him in tears not even able to read the news. Guy had to literally wipe away tears, lol. He's been a 24 fan since the get go and said that he was sad to see it go. I would've felt the same way as he did IF... this season wasn't so horribly bad.

I don't think this season was too bad. A little predictable but still 24 no doubt about it.

I know what Joe Moore is going through. When I saw the timer tick down to all zeroes it left me... sad. all I can say.

Maybe he will be working as a handy man in a soda factory in South America only to be tracked down by the US govt so they can get his DNA to make copies of him. He escapes but not before Tim Roth gets some of his DNA and injects it into himself. Later they use Jack's daughter as bait and when he gets to her the military attacks. Jacks uses a sonic boom clap to disable helicopters and other vehicles and even rips a vehicle in half with his bare hands and uses it as a shield against incoming gunfire. Tim Roth shows back up and Jack just smirks and kicks him across the field.

Anyway, that is just what I came up with so far.

Kiefer said on a talk show that it would probably take place in Europe, which makes sense given that Jack supposedly fled the country.

Satisfying final two episodes. Very hard to top previous season finales but this was okay.

The movie will probably be just like Redemption, Jack in a foreign country and caught up in some terrible things. Save a sequel for him dealing with Russia going after him or having CTU involved.

So, I can't help but think they're going to find Jack in Africa helping children or something along those lines and call him back into service for the movie. That would be a completely unique and different story than we've seen in the past, much like the ending to this last season was. [/sarcasm]
