She was sent after Kal-El to look after him, by Zor-El (Clark's biological uncle), most likely without Jor-El's knowledge. When Jor-El took over Lindsay's body in 'Covenant', he probably based her personality on the real Kara (his niece).
When Kara crash landed 16-years ago, unlike Kal-El's vessel, hers stayed in suspension. She never woke up, until Clark and Bizarro-Clark clashed together at the end of Season 6. It's likely the energy that was exerted during that clash awoke Kara, and she will save his ass.Is that fact, like spoiler fact or just your ideas?

And that surprises you... why?
Smallville doesn't begin to stay true to it's source material, and hasn't really since day one. Oh... there are nods to the comics, and once in a while they get something "right" (more by accident than design), but for the most part it seems that they treat the 60 years of back story as a place to get names and ideas that they can fit to whomever or whatever they want.
I'm okay with that. It gives me an extra way of looking at the show. "They screwed this up - or they updated that well." I can talk about it with my kids - telling them about the original story or character and discussing why the change was made.
For me - Smallville is an Elseworlds story for the small screen. Some of the same elements and characters, with enough changes and twists to mke the familiar new again.

Meet Supergirl
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/wutical/laura_vandervoort.jpg
Supergirl is coming to the CW's Smallville. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort just got the call Wednesday that she has been cast and will start shooting with Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore next week in Vancouver.
"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude," Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. "We've wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent's cousin, but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!"
Since mid-May, when DC Comics approved of introducing Supergirl to the Smallville series, creators Gough and Miles Millar have seen hundreds of actresses for the part but found perfection in Vandervoort, 22, of Toronto, who may be known to fans of the cable series Instant Star as Sadie Harrison. "She was speechless but she was very excited," Gough says of Vandervoort's reaction to the news.
Supergirl will be introduced to viewers as Kara, Clark's cousin, who was born on Krypton and has all of Clark's powers plus the ability to fly. Watch for her to spark romance with Jimmy Olsen (Ashmore) as well.

The only Superman stuff that I like is Superman The Movie and The George Reeves Superman series. Those really capture the true character of Superman. Every other incarnation has done a poor job to the man of steel. Such a hero deserves better than being a dead beat or a Lana addict.
S.A.M.G.
07-13-2007, 07:34 AM
I take exception to Jar Jar, er Sora's assertion that "every other incarnation" of the man of steel has done a poor job of representing the character. Different writer's, different times, different story arcs all represent the big blue boyscout in different ways. Th reason comics as a medium have survived and remained popular for as long as they have is their capacity for change. Superman adapts to the era in which he lives, so any representation carries with it some piece of the time in which it was produced. They all have merit, even if it doesn't mesh with your personal take on Kal-El. They all have something to say to us about the world, and how people at that time and place view the paragon of virtue that is Superman.
Except Superman 4 - what a pile of dung that was.

Just a thought for the upcoming season. With the introduction of supergirl, and MM revealing that Jor-El assigned him to be a protector/guardian/mentor to his son, could the producers be planning to air a few episodes centered around Kal-El completing his training and finally embracing the destiny that has been alluded to since season 1???? If I recall correctly Clark promised he was going to finish the training after all of the phantoms, and such were taken care of. Say a couple eps centered around acclimating Kara to earth life then will we see clark leave the safety of smallville in her hands while he completes a major step towards becoming Superman?? I have a good feeling about the upcoming season.

If this IS to be the last season, they better go all out here. Screw the filler episodes, forget the stupid side stories, and just stick to the main storyline of Clark Kent becoming Superman, Lex Luthor becoming the evil badass that he is today and Lois Lane getting the f**k outta Smallville and staying in Metropolis already.
Spirited Away

Not sure if it's the final season or not. However, I would guess so, because only Tom Welling has had his contract renewed.
Maybe they want to launch a Supergirl series after this season, and Tom Welling's contract is the only way to ensure he cameos throughout it?
If it's not the final season, I'd like all of the Lex Luthor stuff finished by season's end, as he's not going to be in Season 8 (if there is one). They might as well finish Chloe and Lana too.
I wouldn't mind just a Clark, Jimmy and Lois show.

That would be a good episode. I like red-K Clark but I think it's hard for them to get into the story now that he knows not to go near it.
^Yep. Which means if there is a season 8, it will be about Clark only. Lex would be off the show.
Lex would come back as the mastermind of the evilness in the season final probably. We'd have lots of people talking to a shadowy figure off camera with the big obvious reveal at the end.

Though I don't exactly find Kristin Veitch the most reliable source, thought i'd post this anyway:
James from Chicago: Any scoop on Supergirl from Smallville?
Kara, aka Supergirl, and the Martian Manhunter are both aware of each other from the past and they, to say the least, are anything but friends.
Sam from Walnut Creek, California: Smallville?
Sources tell me there is a showdown between Kara and someone very close to Clark's heart.
Rose in Seguin, Texas: What is Lana's future on Smallville?
See item immediately above.
Oh, right, I also heard on the CW Boards that Kristin Kruek is signed on for thirteen episodes this season, and Alison Mack is directing episode twenty of this season. (SV actors really like directing, apparently. i think she's like the third actor to direct on SV.)

It's true apparantely. Kara and Lana are going to hate each other's guts. Kara and MM obviously hate each other. And also there's going to be a Kara/Jimmy/Chloe love triangle( poor Clark :( . That leaves him in a very horrid spot. Might be best to spend several nights alone in the FoS).

Yeah, seriously. Season 1 was a good start, 2 built upon that, 3 was more or less the season that I thought would be known as the best of the series by the end of the run, and 4 was a slight drop in quality (Lana being a witch was dumb, but I enjoyed the stones storyline). But 5 was by far the best. It had everything: the birth of the Fortress of Solitude, Clark explaining his heritage to Chloe, the death of Jonathan, Lionel channeling Jor-El, the phantom zone, and of course, quite possibly the greatest episode of all-time: Hidden.
Season 6 was weak though, I'll admit that.

I can't figure out why I hated Season 6. I'm through the first three discs, and the only episode that even "kind of" turned me off was Subterranean. I even found Wither and Static enjoyable. This season had some of the best episodes of the series within the first ten episodes - Zod, Sneeze, and Arrow. And then of course, Justice is coming up too.
Maybe it'll rear its ugly head soon, but I just don't remember why I hated this season so much.

I hated the black & white episode with Jimmy. I thought Subterranean was okay though. Justice one of my personal favorites though. I still havn't purchased the new season on DVD though because I still have soooo much backtracking to go with Las Vegas, Grey's, Supernatural and Ghost Whisperer, before the new seasons start. I can always play catch up and save the recorded episodes for later though. This season looks like it might be very promising.

I saw an earlier post that said the show's been going downhill since season 5, I can't see that. I thought season 5 was one of the shows better season, coming off season 4 (which i thought was the weakest season) was a hard task, but a successful one that i thought season 5 executed perfectly.

Some people loved the monster-of-the-week, high school drama dynamics. Others hated it.
I've found that those who loved it, hate the last two seasons, and vice versa. The show's producers prefer the new dynamic, so it's sticking.

^well the second post was random, but the first kinda made sense, though it doesn't apply to me. I actually liked the earlier seasons better, but i hated the high school thing. mainly because they could not possibly pass as freshmen in their first year of filming. i know it's tv, but come on. You can't cast a 25 year old as a freshman.

Really? I thought she was like already in her 30s or something, when the show finally ended? Or was that Allyson Hannigan?
Dan's_Gurl
09-23-2007, 04:23 PM
Nope, looked on IMDB. Allyson was 29 at the end of the series. Sarah was 27, i think. Maybe you're thinking of Nicholas Brendon. I'm pretty sure he was in his early thirties when the series ended in '03.

I used to watch Smallville when it came out quite a while ago but gradually stopped watching to the point where i never knew what was going on. I really liked it but it kept changing its days and time slots over here so was hard to keep up with. So couple of months ago i got all 5 series and recently the 6th and have watched through them all over the past few months and i ****ing love it.
Read a couple of bad things about this season but watching it all the way through i thught it was great with some really standout eps, Zod the one with Titan i thought was really good, the one with bow-wow and raya was also a decent ep when the green arrow goes all angry i really like that one.
Couple of poor ones Static, Subtarranean, Hydro, Labryinth and Noir was absolutely terrible i just couldn't wait for that to finish. The others had good moments but that one needs to be erased from memory.
Justice stands out as one of the best ep's of the entirity of the show even though it was slightly cheesy at times. Other really good ones where the last 2 and the one where lex and clark are trapped i really like that one.
Still unsure if i'm going to watch this when its aired or wait til the dvd because i dont think its the type of series to be watched week by week with breaks like prison break or 24 i feel the same about heroes and lost

Does anyone else think it's really lame that Kara knows how to fly but Clark doesn't? I know like everyother filmmaker they are trying to keep things within the Donnerverse in terms of Clark getting his super power knowledge. But come on. This guy should've been learning how to float and fly in season four or five. He's the future Superman and he hasn't even learned his signature power. How lame. Can't they ever get things right with Superman? What gives?

Brainac and James Marsters fans I have good news for you
E! Online reports that James Marsters is returning for four episodes of "Smallville":
We last saw Marsters's character, Dr. Milton Fine (aka Brainiac), in Smallville's fifth season finale.
While it's unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he's reprising the exact same character, he's returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January.
"Smallville" premieres on The CW Thursday night.

I love discussing episodes after they've aired, but I hate seeing spoilers posted months in advance. It should be tagged because it's something that nobody has yet to see... At least, that's my opinion on the matter. And for the record, I also did not know about his returning to the show. I don't read spoilers unless it pretains to the episode in which I am about to see that very week.

Great episode. I loved how Clark used the power of the sun to give himself strength. I loved this Bizarro. Much better than the goofy comic book version and that lame Superman IV deleted scene Bizarro. By the way, I have a feeling Clark and Chloe are going to lip lock this season.
I give the episode a 9/10

They must've used all the budget during the last episode. I was expecting the final battle to last more than two punches. And all the green-screen flying shots looked rushed and more blurry than usual. Whenever characters fly in this show, it seems like they're trying to get away from the camera quickly so they don't waste money. I've thought they would've fixed that problem by now, since other shows seem to be handling it much better.
The collision with the transformer was pretty nice though.

It was interesting - I really havent watched the show since season one, so I'm a little lost as to who is who.
The black guy with the glowing eyes for example - who was that? And who was the one typing who knew of Clarks powers?
I liked it - liked the special effects thought the acting was pretty good. Had no idea Lana married Lex or that she was supposedly dead or all that.
Liked the Bizarro - yeah the sun thing was well done.\

They really, really, really have used up the Lana/Clark/Lex storyline to death now.. that is one of the reasons I stopped watching the show on a regular basis. Here are some others that again were also in evidence this episode.
Someone (in this case Luthor, multiple times Lana) conveniently knocked cold right before Clark uses his powers.
Yet another version of the "evil" Clark (possessed, changed by Kryptonite, etc.) who sexually harasses someone (Lana, Chloe, Lois) in a way the "good" Clark never would and by the end of the episode is forgiven.
The aforementioned "fight" which lasts two punches. (Also reference almost every Star Trek space battle where the hopelessly outmatched Enterprise is zapped a jillion times, then dispatches the enemy with a single phaser blast.)
I swear, by the time I saw Lana resurrected, I began to think I was watching just about any episode from the past several seasons ... again.

If Chloe would have died, I would have stopped watching the show.
She's the only sane woman on that show. Plus you give her powers makes it even better.
What did everyone think of Supergirl?
Did Clark end up flying at the end? Or was he just standing on the ground watching bizzaro go up into the Sun.
That was a little confusing.

I take back all of what I said about Season 6, I don't quite understand why I initially hated it so much. Upon the re-watching, only one episode (Subterranean) really bothered me, everything else was good or better. And even Jimmy seemed more natural.
I blame it on the large breaks between episodes. I can't wait for Thursday!

Yeah, Clark generally has a max of two recurring (that's why I didn't count Aquaman or Cyborg, etc.) guy friends per season:
1 - Lex, Pete, and Whitney (to a certain extent)
2 - Lex and Pete
3 - Lex and Pete
4 - Lex (to a certain extent) and Jason (the first half of the season)
5 - Milton Fine (the first third of the season)
6 - Oliver (the first half of the season) and Jimmy
7 - (I'm guessing) Jimmy and John Jones
