Mickey's personality was predictable, but it was still a great idea. It was a nice touch having him do his trademark laugh at the end of almost every sentence.

Mickey: "Where would you be without me, Jonas Brothers? Ha ha. Your music sucks and you know it! Ha Ha. It's because you make little girls' ginies tickle. And when little girls' ginies tickle, I make money! Ha ha..."

Usually the voices aren't even close, but this time...it's completely Mickey. I'm one of the biggest Disney/Mickey fans around and it doesn't bother me one bit. But I doubt that some hardass over at Disney doesn't do something.

Wednesday's episode will be a parody of The Dark Knight.

"THE COON"
IN AN ALL-NEW "SOUTH PARK" ON
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18 AT 10:00 P.M. ON COMEDY CENTRAL‚

NEW YORK, March 16, 2009 – One young citizen takes it upon himself to maintain order during a time of despair in South Park. An all-new episode of "South Park" titled, "The Coon,” premiers on Wednesday, March 18 at 10:00 p.m. on COMEDY CENTRAL.

“The Coon” rises from the trash and takes his place as a lone vigilante who wipes out crime in the town of South Park. A rival superhero appears on the scene in the form of “Mysterion” and challenges the Coon’s place as a “symbol” for the town.

Yeah my friends and I enjoyed this one a lot.

My guess was that right before the Mysterion guy took off his mask the episode would end (I could see Matt and Trey finding that funny) which would be a little annoying. But even though we didn't find out who it was, I thought the way the "revealed his identity" was clever and funny enough that I didn't care that we didn't find out.

Also I loved the return of Professor Chaos and the way Cartman changed his voice to a growl to parody the Dark Knight.

I still think it was Clyde. He was falling asleep in class in the beginning, meaning he was up all night.

But I don't remember Cartman naming him earlier. Otherwise it was probably Craig.

im thinking its Kenny because when Cartmen was asking him about the coon at the bus stop, Kenny wasnt saying anything.

but yea it could be Clyde too. i wish they'd have another episode centered around him again. he's a fav of mine, as well as Randy.

hollywoodtanman
03-19-2009, 04:45 PM
haha I love all the speculation because to me it seems that Mysterion isn't really anyone. I think the reason Matt and Trey ended it the way they did because they didn't even know who it was...if that makes sense. Like it's obviously one of the fourth graders, but they couldn't decide which one would be funniest so they just left it open ended...

I think it was Craig. Clyde's voice is too weird for it to be him. But maybe it was Token... :p

The music was great. As I was listening to it, I was going, "I want the soundtrack to this episode." heh. It was like a cross between Dark Knight and Watchmen, with maybe a slight touch of Sin City. Trey and Matt are on something, and I wish I knew what it was.

Yeah, the kid's family teaches Stan all about where the Mormon religion came from. Classic stuff. One of my favorites.

Another few favorites of mine have always been "Spookyfish", "Fingerbang" and "Lil' Crime Stoppers." But "Make Love, Not Warcraft" is also great. Forget what I said. Just watch every single episode. Two of the weakest might have been "Tweek Vs. Craig" and "Sexual Harassment Panda". But even those have great moments. Yeah, I'm biased.

It was good, but it seems like they threw out a possible Cartman / Kyle confrontation. He was supposed to betray him, right? Never happened. :( At least I don't think it did.

haha I'm one of the few people that really enjoyed Sexual Harassment Panda, just because it's so ridiculous. And when they go to that camp of weird animal mascots or whatever, that was funny. That definitely counts as one of the great moments in that episode. Another would be Skeeter's "We don't take kindly to your types around here" catch phrase that he would say to everyone he meets. Heh. Like I said, every episode has great moments.

Tonight's episode was fantastic. Probably their smartest episode in a long time. But I agree with Boiiinng that a foreshadowed Cartman / Kyle confrontation was missing. It was still so, so great.

It wasn't "who" but "what" really. Way back at the end of season one they had a cliffhanger episode wehre they were about to reveal who Cartman's father was. They then set it up to be revealed in the first episode of the second season, but since it aired on April Fools Matt and Trey thought it would be funny to play a prank and instead air an episode that was entirely Terrance and Philip instead. Some fans got a little pissed off.

So they poked fun at the with the whole cliffhanger thing with Terrance and Philip and the boys wanting to know what happened.

Yeah good job on the Osbournes. F'n $haron trying to get more exposure on TV. Hate the b*tch. Hate her hate her hate her.

As for Ozzy he's a weak motherf**ker. Can't even stand up to his domineering wife who obviously wears the pants in the family. That show is nothing more than a facade.

And I'll never forgive them for f**king over Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake over royalties they're so deservedly entitled to over Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. Can't believe $haron had on the back insert of Madman photos of Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge with Ozzy and Randy Rhoads when it was really Daisley and Kerslake who contributed to that album. I still wonder what Rhoads would that thought of the whole affair had he still be alive. How tragic his death was so soon after the album's release. :(

And the 2002 remasters of those two albums when their contributions were blatantly erased and rerecorded with Rob Trujillo and Mike Bordin playing their parts just so Bob and Lee never get their due. You gotta see the backlash of negative reviews on Amazon. It's hilarious. But $haron will never care. They'll get away with it no matter what. Whatever you do people AVOID the 2002 remasters and try to track down the originals or the 1995 remasters. Hell why not download them instead. ;)

And then there's the Iron Maiden debacle at Ozzfest in 2005 when the band had eggs thrown at them the PA blatantly turned off during their set etc. So glad that Maiden being the consummate professionals that they are, continued to play their set with Bruce Dickinson getting angrier by the minute.

Anyway I've ranted long enough. Back to the episode.

I've decided that despite the random and often obscene hilarity that ensues in these types of episodes, unless it has a point or a message, it feels pretty worthless.

I think that's why so many of South Park's early seasons were just plain dumb to me, until Matt and Trey started incorporating more of their personal views and began satirizing public figures, religion, and current events on a much more regular basis.

To me, the episode would have been a little better if it stuck to the themes surrounding the network exec and T&P. Networks are so eager to make money they run to whatever the polls tell them to -- resulting in completely crappy shows or ones that cater to one demographic and abandon all others.

Yeah, I honestly think this is one of the shows that has actually gotten better over time. Some of the episodes from the first two or three seasons are absolutely unwatchable and pretty much designed to appeal to 6th graders with its gross bathroom humor and whatnot just for the sake of bathroom humor. Whereas for the past 6 or 7 seasons it's been pretty clever and now its appointment viewing. Sometimes they venture back into the grossout stuff (like with the queef episode) but they usually keep a good mix.

I loved them making fun of Carlos Mencia (who is hired by their own employer, Comedy Central, unless his show got canceled without me noticing)....I wish they mentioned that he was from Holland and really named "Ned Holness."

One of the things I've noticed about this show is its the first animated primetime show that actually started to move AWAY from its supporting characters as time went on. If you look at the early episodes the townspeople were used a lot more, and they had token episodes where they had to focus on certain people. Like, The Simpsons and Family Guy and whatnot have gone on for so long that each supporting character like the Sea Captain or Comic Book Guy has at least 10 episodes about them, usually including at least one or two about their love life and one where they move in with the family. And you can see in early seasons that South Park felt compelled to do stuff like this, like "Oh, this episode is going to focus on Mr. Mackey or Officer Barbrady." But now the supporting characters (assuming you count Butters as a main cast member now, which he is) almost never show up anymore and the only adults who ever have episodes about them are Randy (who is pretty much a main character and gets at least a fifth of the episodes) and Mr/s. Garrison. I feel this has liberated the show in many ways - you can tell early on that they felt they needed to compete with the other animated shows early on and do stuff like "Oh, we need to have a wacky busdriver character." And now they have a lot of episodes about one-shot characters or celebrities instead of feeling constrained to make storylines or incorporate all the random side characters.

I loved them making fun of Carlos Mencia (who is hired by their own employer, Comedy Central, unless his show got canceled without me noticing)....I wish they mentioned that he was from Holland and really named "Ned Holness."

Holland? Where'd you get that from? And although he went by his father's last name Holness for a while, his birth certificate states Mencia.

I laughed so hard when he made the chart trying to figure out the joke

Yeah that was brilliant.

It was even funny how all the talk show hosts were talking about it too. Letterman and Paul Schafer laughing about it, Conan, Ellen, Leno and Kimmel. Too much.

I guess if you get your info from Wikipedia. ;)

I would think it's a good assumption that Mind of Mencia was canceled. It's been assumed for a long time now, but I never had seen anything official said on it one way or another. This is kind of late in the game for South Park to finally joke on him for this, which is why it seems that way.

Kanye admits South Park is right.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090409/ap_on_en_mu/people_kanye_west

NEW YORK – "South Park" may have accomplished the impossible — getting Kanye West to check his ego. The Comedy Central show skewered the famously self-important rapper on its show Wednesday night, painting him as a narcissistic figure so out of touch with reality he couldn't even take a (very politically incorrect) joke.

West's love of himself and his work has been almost as integral to his image as his music: Just last year, he told The Associated Press that he was the "voice of this generation." Also recently, he was quoted as saying his greatest regret was not being able to see himself perform live.

Yet, on his blog Thursday, West appeared chastened, and ready to turn over a new leaf.

In typical all-caps mode, he wrote: "SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER."

West said that he started stroking his ego long ago to build up his self esteem — but he now realizes he needs to "GET PAST MYSELF."

In the self-reflective post, he said that people won't take him seriously if he keeps it up (perhaps referring to his well-documented meltdowns at awards shows when he didn't win what he expected).

"I JUST WANT TO BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM," he said.

And perhaps to show that he's really serious about making that change, he provided a link to one of the most biting moments from the "South Park" show, and thanked the writers as well.

As a teacher, I struggle with students' use of the word "fag," so this episode of South Park was extremely entertaining and really made me think about the use of language in modern America and the way our slang and terminology is so degraded that after a certain point offensive and taboo language loses some of its meaning.

However, with "fag" and "gay" as synonyms for "stupid," and the n-word, I truly believe that the historical connotation is more powerful than the modern acceptance, and I will continue to discourage the usage and the harmless/casual attitude kids take towards these terms.

That was kind of their argument though, the history of the meaning of fag has changed several times and it is arguable that its use by both gay and straight people doesn't have as much negative history as a lot of people think. It isn't the same as the n-word which has always been strictly associated with slavery and is largely still majorly frowned upon in nearly every culture in the world.

It isn't the same as the n-word which has always been strictly associated with slavery and is largely still majorly frowned upon in nearly every culture in the world.

I understand that and maybe it's not a completely fair comparison, but if anything, we might be at a crossroads between generations, and I think we're still on the side of history that has more negative baggage associated with the word and I have enough friends and family and know enough acquaintances who still see it as hateful/hurtful speech that I discourage it at all corners.

As a teacher I don't feel responsible to be the "morals police," but I do think letting kids toss "gay" and "fag" around freely in my class and in the halls fosters a negative environment in regards to anyone who does take offense to those terms. I'm really not ultra-PC, but when it comes to making kids feel safe and comfortable and just having some general respect for others is where I stand on the matter. I personally hate using the terms as adjectives because I've known enough people who've been hurt by others with those words. I also hate to value a simple little word so much, but as an English teacher, I feel like getting kids to understand the deeper connotation of certain words and considering their diction on a regular basis is significant in a way.

I havn't seen an episode of South Park as thought-provoking as last night's episode in quite some time now. Bravo for them. I highly enjoyed it.

I haven't watched the episode yet but I'm reading this stuff on 'fag.' IMO, most if not all of the people who call you out on using the word don't care about how offensive it is. They just want to claim a moral high ground and in doing so they feel like they're above everyone else. Not that I'm a proponent of using things that are intentionally harmful, but at the same time people are just way too touchy, most of the time because it makes them feel better than everyone.

Weakest episode of the season yet, I thought.

Haha - I loved this episode. I totally hate people who drive around with their Harleys and love to have everyone look at them because of their exhaust noise. It's so irritating. Cartman telling them they are attention whores like 16 year old girls is dead on. LOL - loved it.

I've watched the Whale Whores episode countless times and it still has me in stitches.

Yeah the Enola Gay moment was a riot.

Easily one of the best episodes in a long time. :D

Avatar....

Hahaha

When they were going the smurf route during the episode I had a feeling we were going to see something from Avatar. I loved the very begining when the kid was killed by the husband during the morning announcments. I was cracking up on some of the noises that happened during the scene. When the kid was screaming was just really funny to me.

Loved Dances with Smurfs. Yeah seeing Cartman walk out of Avatar was hilarious. His rants on Wendy etc not to mention Kyle and the others looking all unimpressed was a hoot. :D

I love how everyone attacks Glen Beck. He's the right wing's equivalent to people like Chris Mathews, Keith Olberman and Donny Douche. The episode was funny though.

I also cracked up when the Morning Announcement started becoming a Talk Show with the addition of the monitors not to mention the opening credits ala The Daily Show/Colbert Report. :funny:

Stan and Wendy's conversation when she referred to Eric as "Fartman."

And it was really funny when Butters was the only one reacting to Cartman's statements plus Timmy smiling through the whole thing. :D

Didn't see Jimmy in there either. Ah well...

And so another Season draws to a close. Pee was another hilarious episode but a little too much on the urinary side if you know what I mean.

Still Cartman's rantings on the minorities plus his song was a riot. Even the references to 2012 was a laugh.

And poor Kyle (not to mention Kenny). Man was he pissed... :P

One of the amazing things about South Park is the wide range of episodes that people consider their favorites. I didn't really care for this episode that much or the one before, but plenty of other people did.

I agree. I didn't find the last two episodes that great, and neither did my friends, but many people here seem to love them.

Another thing I love about this show is the fact that in every single episode there are a least 2 or 3 laugh out loud parts. I don't think I've ever watched in episode and not laughed at least a few parts. That's pretty significant considering how many years this show has been on the air.
