okay over the times on this board here I have learned about plenty of cool bands. Well I would like to buy some of their CD's except well sometimes the money isn't always there to get all their CD's. In here I figured you could name some bands and recomend their best album(or which one would be more suitable for someones first listen.) Understand? now lets start
Band:weezer
Album:the blue album
why: well this isn't exactly my favorite album from weezer, that title belongs to pinkerton, but for those who have yet to pick up a weezer CD this is the best way to start. This album is the first album from the band and it was a big start. You can't go wrong with this album at all. Every song is very enjoyable to listen to and the Album is fun to listen to in any mood. Are you in the mood to listen to some weezer? then say yes to blue.
yeah I know that sorta sucked, but oh well I'm sure you guys will be able to do better

you rate the beatles as a 2?
Remember these are little kids who don't have a clue what real music is all about. They'd rather listen to rubbish like Maroon 5 and Good Charlotte and show no respect for how music came to be today even though it's mostly crap nowadays.

Well, you have Dream Theater's "Octavarium" as your avatar... you obviously like that album and it just came out a few weeks ago. I wouldn't say todays music is all crap by any means... I find new stuff coming out all the time that is fantastic. I will agree however that music back in the 60's, 70's, and 80's definitely beats out todays age of music as a whole by far.
Well I should have been more elaborate then. Today's mainstream Top 40 scene. ;)
...and yes. Octavarium is f**king amazing. Their finest work since Metropolis Pt.2 :)

That I will pretty much agree with.

Indeed. The only thing that I find odd is that "I Walk Beside You" sounds so erieily similar to a U2 song... not like that is a bad thing, but still weird. Great album though.

ughh two of my most hated bads of today. Lately I've been trying to get into different kinds of music from different time periods. I ussually look through my dads CD collection for different stuff.
Check out some Deep Purple. Basically if you can all get into Zeppelin and Sabbath, Purple are just as stellar. After all they were the 3 big bands of the 70's.
It's a start.

I'll recommend Superunkown by Soundgarden. This is one of the few albums that I can listen to all the way through without skipping a track. This album would definatley be in my top 5.

I like Pink Floyd, but I think they are over-played on the radio, so i just get sick of listening to them sometimes. But they are still good. You can't forget AC/DC, their first album was in 1974, that's a '70's band. You also got to have The Who as one of the greatest bands.
I also think two of the most overrated bands ever is Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, hey don't get me wrong they are both awesome as well, yet sooooooooooooooooooo overrated.
Remember these are little kids who don't have a clue what real music is all about. They'd rather listen to rubbish like Maroon 5 and Good Charlotte and show no respect for how music came to be today even though it's mostly crap nowadays.
Ummm just so you know you really don't listen to new music if you think its not good. There are so many new bands that are showing up on the mainstream that sounds like older music. I hate Maroon 5, they suck a$$. Good Charlotte's first album, it was self titled, was pretty good, but then it sucked a$$ after that. I mainly listen to heavy metal music and stuff like that. Even though the older music was good, I like newer stuff better
Here's my list of the decades on how good the music was:
1.) 2000's
2.) 70's
3.) 80's
4.) 60's
5.) 90's (even though Pantera was mainly in the 90's, the 90's are last)
Sorry Systm0fD0wn, I didn't look at the page before, but I still don't like The Beatles that much, my favorite song by them is Hard Day's Night
I recommend,
Album: '74 Jailbreak
Artist: AC/DC

Sorry my mistake. The 3 big UK bands of the 70's. It's been documented by various sources not by my opinion alone. Think about the hard rock aspect here. Pink Floyd were on a different level. The Prog Rock side of things like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and ELP for example.
Hard Rock: Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Uriah Heep. Understand now? ;)
Ummm just so you know you really don't listen to new music if you think its not good.
Look here mate. It's rubbish okay. They try to sound like the older material and yet they fail at that. Anyway hearing all this rubbish on the radio is enough to drive a grown man insane. :nono:

No offense to all those people who aren't looking into the heavy metal/hard rock scene let me just state one thing.
So far every rap song I've heard has sampled some the greatest songs out there.
Lil Jon sampled Ozzy Osbourne and what really gets me is the fact that there are some closed minded people out there that think Lil Jon came up with that riff, Randy Rhoads has been rolling in his grave ever since.

Hopefully this isn't falling on deaf ears, but here goes:
The Clash-"London Calling"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00004BZ0N.01._PE8_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Possibily the greatest Punk album ever recorded. A "must-have" for "real" punks.
Parliament-"Mothship Connection"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008RV1A.01._PE8_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube made a career sampling cuts from this album. This group was a HEAVY influence on the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well.
Speaking of...............
Red Hot Chili Peppers-"Uplift MoFo Party Plan"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000078DOJ.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Produced by George Clinton (of P-funk fame). This is the album where the Chili Peppers really reached their creative peak with the 4 original members.
The Replacements-"Let It Be"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006FR75.01._PE18_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
There's only three things to do in Minneapolis during the winter. Drink, drink some more, and play kick a** Rock and Roll. This band was poised to be Nirvana 10 years before Nirvana. They chose to have fun instead. America's last great Rock and Roll band and the best band you've never heard of.
The Jam-"In the City"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000006TZ9.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Take some 60's American Soul, music by "The Kinks" and "The Who", mix them up in a bowl and play them at 100mph. The result is The Jam. Voted as one of the "Five Punk Bands that mattered".
Soundtrack-"The Harder They Come"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005LZWR.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Great stepping off point for people that would like to expand their Reggae beyond Bob Marley. Features classic Reggae/Ska tunes from Jimmy Cliff, The Maytals, and Desmond Dekker.
Speaking of Ska.....
The (English) Beat-"Just Can't Stop It"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000021XS8.01._PE8_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Hands down the best Ska album I've ever heard. This was Stings favorite band while he was playing with the Police. In fact you can see him wearing a "Beat" shirt in the video to "Don't Stand So Close to Me".
The Stone Roses-self titled
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000004V2.01._PE18_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Ever wondered how Rock suddenly fused with Hip-Hop? This album is the missing link. One of the first groups to fuse guitar pop with a hip hop beat. This album was the dawn of the "Manchester Sound" that helped spawn Blur. Psychedelic guitar with rap back-beat.

The bloody sampling has gone too far nowadays. Where has all the originality gone? Oh I take that back. Ritchie Blackmore said it best. "We all tend to steal. I stole from Hendrix, Page stole from everybody. So yes we all tend to steal."
So there you go. Originality hasn't seen the light of day for quite some time. There's always gonna be some influence seeping into every form of music today.

At least Blackmore and Page worked on making their own sound out of their sampling.
