I was wondering if anyone else is eagerly awaiting this musical adaptation. I have loved RENT since it opened in 1996 and I have followed the ever evolving film process. Now that Chris Columbus is directing it and he wisely chose most of the original cast to reprise their roles, I was wondering if anyone cares as much about it as I do. I haven't seen any talk about it. After all it is a Pulitzer Prize winning play and the winner of almost every major theatre award that is handed out.
Having traveled with the show, I have seen how the content of Jonathan Larson's work has changed people's lives. If done properly, I feel the film adaptation has the chance to do the same for a larger audience.
If you are unaware of RENT, I highly suggest that you become well acquainted with it. On November 11, when it is released, I think it will cause an uproar. I fully expect it to be nominated for quite a few awards. That is if it is handled in the proper fashion.
But back to my question. Have any of heard of this work and if you have how eagerly are you anticipating it?

I have not heard anything about this but I can not wait. Like you said, if it is done right, it should be great. I saw a touring company of this a few years ago. It was great. Of course, in the paper the next day was an editorial basically saying how dare this city allow a show like this to be shown. After the intemission, the four people who were sitting in front of me did not return.
