View Full Version : Should A Quality Godzilla Remake Follow?

Since this movie will probably rock (minus Jack Black of course), I was thinking it'd be cool to have the other giant monster revisted. Of course I'm referring to the Big G himself: Godzilla.

The original Godzilla (like the original Kong) is a great movie. Yet, even more so than Kong, it suffers from dismal special effects. The devastation of Tokoyo could be amazing to witness with today's CGI.

Now, when I say remake Godzilla I mean the Japanese original. No Raymond Burr, no zany monsters or giant robots, just utter destruction, brutality, political commentary, and a tragic love triangle. I love the original score, so I'd say that'd have to stay. The original Godzilla was one of the most haunting films of all time, it'd be great to see it done up nicely. I still believe audiences could be horrified by this story, like they originally were in 1954 before the series became camp.

I don't know, but I doubt Jackson would be interested.

The original Japenese version of the film was shown in America last year. It was great to see it with out all of the Raymond Burr scenes. If a remake was done right it would be awesome, but as we have all learned, most remakes suck.

Considering how well the most recent Godzilla remake went over a few years ago, I'd say no.

That garbage does not count as a Godzilla film. I'm talking about a QUALITY remake of the original city destroying, radiation breathing, juggernaught; not some big scared lizard.

It's not gonna happen. There's plenty of modern offerings from Japan and if you want the original watch the original. The recent american godzilla remake is exactly what was always going to happen if it was remade. It would be very similar should it happen again. I for one liked it, but whatever, seems no one else in the world did.

Why would it have to be similar? There's no reason why it couldn't be made with a similar tone to the original instead.

It'd never happen. The general public would assume it was a sequel and noone's gonna give anyone the rights to do a totally fresh take. Obviously it'd be great if they did. But it's not gonna happen. Not for a good few years.

If a Godzilla movie was to happen at least make it a King Kong vs Godzilla or something. But yes the Hollywood GINO (Godzilla In Name Only) film was a huge disappointment.

That's the exact problem. If they could make a QUALITY remake of godzilla then I hope they do so. It's just that I very much doubt they can!

Agreed, the Godzilla films work in Japan as they are a little wierd in the head, US audiences will never get thier heads round it.
