If I did not post one of your favourites, I am really sorry, I could only post 20 options.

Into The West is my favorite song. It has to have lyrics to be a song, if not then it is just music. All are beautiful, but for me the only songs were the ones at the end of each movie and to a lesser extent the backround songs and such throught the film.

If you’re going by track, out of that list mine is The Breaking of the Fellowship. My favorite song, though, is Into the West as sung by Annie Lennox.

(Actually I’m listening to Breaking of the Fellowship right now, it just came up on Shuffle :))

I'm really sorry, as I said, but it slipped my mind completely!

(Your probably thinking, "How could it possibly 'slip' her mind....?")

The Breaking of the Fellowship makes me cry everytime i listen to it, specifically for the time i listened to it after a friend of mine's sister commited suicide only hours after i had last spoken to her (we were friends)

You must feel terrible. It makes me cry every time Boromir dies, and I don't even know him. I'm really sorry.

Of the above: "The Breaking of The Fellowship"

Out of all the score(and the forthcoming box-set) probably either 'Hope is Kindled/"Gondor Calls For Aid..."/"...And Rohan Will Answer"(gotta love that version of the 'Rohan theme'), or 'For Frodo"

ttbk

I've never really liked Into the West. The music is wonderful, I just don't like the sound of her voice, and I don't believe that she does very well on the high notes. This is just my opinion, and I am not trying to offend anyone.

I think I am your exact opposite. :) I never listen to music with lyrics, except on rare occasions, because I believe the music industry is going horribly wrong these days. I prefer instrumentals, soundtracks, Irish Folk music, and soundtracks to certain Irish dance shows.

(Bet you can't even tell that I Irish Dance :D)

No no of course not.
But I didn't like her voice in the beginning either. But then I heard the sing again, and again and then I just loved it. You just have to get used to it.
Pity, that she didn't do so good at the Oscars. It could just be me, but I think she was terribly nervous and therefore couldn't sing her best.

Return of the King has that great build up to the ROTK fellowship theme (as the camera sweeps over MT) AND the Hobbits theme.

However the ultimate song HAS to be Forth Eorlingas-it is simply beautiful, epic, it encapsulates the adventure and feel of LOTR, its such a fitting end to TTT.

Each indiviadual is unique.

I share you thoughts on todays music industry, I listen only to classical, I love Irish(being Irish part descent) Movie soundtracks. And other more real music. Not the harsh foul trash of todays society. Rock, etc. The fruits of Orcs.

I love Songs though. I have a variety of music though not to vast.

Ah, I like Irish dance myself. Flatery(SP?).

When I first read the lyrics I fell inlove with them. They managed to convey in them all the emotion of the end of LOTR. It is perfection. WHen I first listened to it, I loved t he music, but not that hint of folk song. And while i thought That AL could sing wonderfully and elevate the song to the high notes it deserved, I did not care for here voice. I wanted someone more like, Enya. With a mythical etherial quality to the voice. Yet, as I listened to it, I liked it more and more, until I raelized that this was exactly the type of voice tha the song needed. Try listening to it some more, perhaps you find in it what I did. :)

Into the west is definately the best out of the three, followed by May it be. I did like these songs, but i'm glad that no song with vocals appeared in the actual film

Oh my gosh, I have always loved Annie Lennox's voice. I think the song adds a beautiful balance of sadness and strength to the end of the movie.

I agree completely. Howard Shore did an absolutely magnificent job. We have never heard such a beautiful score, and I don't believe that we will ever again.

I agree with you about the lyrics, Nim, but I have listened to that song about ten more times,(from your reccomendation:) ) but I still don't really like the sound of her voice. Oh well. Everyone has different interests.

Very interesting thread :)
I love "The breaking of the fellowship", it s a very complex song, I think it carries the essence of the movie...Very beautiful lyrics too:"When the seas and mountains fall, and we come, to end of days. In the dark I hear a call. Calling me there, I will go there...and back again. ''
I also adore The Rohan theme, The stewd of Gondor, The return of the King, Twilight and Shadow, Hope and Memory, A Journey in the Dark...can t stop listenin them :) Oh, I forgot about Arwen s Song...All the three soundracks are just wonderful...Words cannot describe them

I have quite a few.

Breaking of the Fellowship - To this day, I am still moved when I hear this music

Bridge of Khazad-dum - Heart-poundingly epic, finishing with the melancholy of Gandalf's fall. Brilliant

Forth Eorlingas - What adt100 said

King of the Golden Hall - The Rohan theme in it's finest form (bar the Ride, which is conspicuous in it's absence from the soundtrack :()

Into the West - Never once had I shed a tear in a cinema. I did when I heard this.
