New vb3 Upgrade issues and ToDo's!

CS! will be upgraded to VB3

To do this I will start doing some backgroud work.

YOUR ACTIONS
1) Clean out PM's
I need each of you to go into your mailbox, and DELETE all the PM's you do not require. Please make sure to go into INBOX, SENT ITEMS and MESSAGE TRACKING.

DELETE all the messages you do not need to keep.

2) Save Threads
If you list a certain thread, that actually has not been posted in, in more then 365 days, you better post in it. I am pruning the threads shortly, this will save the post from the trashcan.

MY ACTIONS

1) Pruning of Old Threads
All threads, not posted or touched within a year, will be deleted. If you like a thread, and wish to have it kep on the board after its updated (within the next week) post in it, and it will be save.

2) Deletion of Users
Users will not be touched, have no fear, your account is will going to be here. NO USERS WILL BE DELETED in the upgrade.

3) Post Counts
Users posts....I will not intentionally reset post counts or anything like that. But part of the upgrade process, I think this actually MAY be automatic. If you count goes down, or up for that matter. DO NOT ASK FOR US TO CHANGE IT. I hate to put it this way, tough, live with it. Users that have been here for a long time, will most likely be more affected by post count loss than those only been here for 370 days.

4) Board Changes
The board when we bring it back up, will look like the default VB. Have no fear, over a few days/weeks time, we will be changing it accordingly. We will slowly change it to make it C! compatable!

5) Board Outage
Now, people will ask when I will start and when will it be complete. I will post a Global Announcement hopefully 24 hours in advance of its upgrade. Then the board may be down as long as 24-48 hours to do this (because we have so many users and posts) This upgrade is not a nice thing, because of the changes. Do NOT EMAIL me, do not message me. It will be up when its up.

The TENTATIVE schedule is to start LATE Friday night and have it down all weekend.

Hmmm... instead of that, I would suggest that they possibly just delete all of the banned member's accounts.

I like the new look logo I think its pretty good but i dont know what it looks like without The Village add in the background (I think thats what it is there) but I like the stlye of the logo.

The new logo looks cool but the one we have now fits in better. So it all depends how the forums look like.

I think the purple fits in better with the blue that the board uses now, green isn't anywhere else on the board, I like the current logo, I just think the new one would fit better IMO.

its a good posibility...

You see...

So when the board updates, it will most likely RECOUNT THE POSTS on the board.

So if you had two posts right now.
One in a thread 2 years ago and 1 today...
You have a post count of 2 right now...

After I prune that old one, and the upgrade process begins, it will recount posts, therefore, it will only see me as having 1 post.

Make sense?

So basically, the longer you have been here, the more you will drop, because you posted alot in threads that will bne pruned.

I think its confirmed as the prune deletes the threads over a year old so if the threads go the posts go so when it recounts those posts are gone.

Well, like Malice said, when a thread gets deleted ALL the posts in it get nuked too. Which factor into your post count. And since he's deleting all threads that haven't been posted in over a year....so it depends on how many haven't been posted in that I posted in before Aug. 1 of last year. So on Aug. 4th I broke my 5000 milestone. So factoring in major threads like "What's on your Mind?" and the Big Brothers, I estimated 3000 of mine will get nuked.

My point being, since we have a new board coming, and new functionality, things like this will most likely change.

For instance, signatures...

I can limit signatures to a character limit. Thus not trying to manually enforce a "three line rule."

So many of the rules we have here...will be changed to match the new board.

3) One of the What's you name... where do you live threads ---- there seems to be a new one of theese every couple of months... it would be nice just to have one on the front page to prevent alot of the same threads getting started.

That's a relief, I had to bump 2 of my threads in the Fan Art and Fiction forum this morning because with all of the bumps in that forum, they had dropped to the second and third pages, even though I just posted in both of them yesterday.

I'm gonna lose some posts - but not a ton I don't think. I had a couple of fan fics (some are shanks's) that I felt needed saving. And someone had already saved the P&H :D But otherwise - I'm good with whatever goes away. (although I'm a little disappointed to be so close to 10,000 and now I'm gonna have to take a step backwards :() ::sigh::

If it wouldn't start a huge epidemic of spamming, I'd suggest that the top 75 posters be allowed to preserve their post count through admin editing, but I'd understand completely if that got vetoed because some people would abuse that privelege to make it to the top 75.

Not just for me - but for someone like Frizzo who's going to lose 10,000 posts. It hardly seems right that someone who's been here longer than almost any of us is going to lose his spot near the top of the Top 75 posters list.

That's really kinda a crappy way to treat some of the people that made the boards what they are today.

I know I've said it before - and I know I'll probably get shut down on it again, but I really think the top75 should be allowed to preserve their post count. Skink has screen captures of it, so at the very least everyone will get set back to what they were yesterday.
