IP is the address that your computer sends out when you are connected to the internet..An IP ban is when they ban that number from being allowed to log onto CS!

IP - is responsible for moving packet of data from node to node. IP forwards each packet based on a four byte destination address (the IP number). The Internet authorities assign ranges of numbers to different organizations. The organizations assign groups of their numbers to departments. IP operates on gateway machines that move data from department to organization to region and then around the world.

What I don't get is with dial up modems your ISP provides your computer a different IP address every time you connect to the net. So how does banning an IP address work?

I know a lot about Computers too, I'm going to Uni next year to learn more, but I've never heard that one before and one of the things they tell us in school is the laws concerning computers. Different countries have different laws.

If I remember correctly.... IP addresses can either be static or Dynamic. Usually if you have a direct connection to the internet the IP stays the same (static). If you are connected through a server or router your computer has a Dynamic (changing) Ip address but the server or router has a static address.

Thats correct. By having a static connection, you'Re faster.
