Green Dragon to Community, as already said
EE DVD thread to DVD forum, as already said
And maybe fold all other topics in to the General Movies forum, like what happened to the Matrix. So there's the option of still searching.

Why are we removing this??
It will be VERY difficult to find all the threads if they are all scattered throughout....
Lord Of The Rings is a VERY SPECIFIC movie subject...
What???!!! Are the Star Wars clowns complaining or what???
How are we to know what is going where ????

I think the Star Wars threads should be removed as well....

No, you see its because, LOTR is technically over, you know, no more theatre releases. After Episode III, the Star Wars forum will disappear too. Harry Potter has it easy, 7 movies lol.

We all knew this was coming, it is time for this forum to go into the west.

Move the "Green Dragon thread" to community; it serves no actual purpose, and has nothing related to the LOTR movies really going on in it.
I would definately include all rumor of DVD and Extended Edition stuff.
But what about The Hobbit movie? I mean, granted, it's at least 5-6 years away at the least, but the series isn't exactly "over" yet.

Yeah, i can see why it is being revoved, and thankyou CS for keeping some, but This Forum is one of the most active forums on all of the boards.
IMHO, something as big as Star Wars and LOTR, with such followings, should always have their own forum, because of their followings and the endless threads on them.
But its not up to me, so whatever happens, happens, as it happened for a reason. As long as the Dragon is somewhere to be found.....

theres part of me that agree's with samwise gamwich in saving the forum
there's some good in this forum.... and it's worth fightin' for! :D

What right or logic is there in removing this baord before the true end to the LOTR films, when James Bond, POTC, Narnia, Indiana Jones, King Kong and Mission Impossible films ALL get there own specialist boards?
It frankly defies belief or understanding, and needless to say is EXTREMELY disappointing and IMO downright unfair.
I would expect there to be very good reasons to be posted as to the removal of this forum (prior to the end of the year), though what they could be I have no idea. If the removal is imminent than there is little point in me at least frequenting these boards so often, as there will no longer be an outlet for me in which to discuss these films, the upcoming EE, cinema re-releases etc.

If the removal is imminent than there is little point in me at least frequenting these boards so often, as there will no longer be an outlet for me in which to discuss these films, the upcoming EE, cinema re-releases etc. Well..the theatrical release is over. Its June 2004..theres not a new LOTR movie in sight. It has nothing to do with popularity....its just time for the forum to go. We can't keep it forever. You can talk about the DVD release in the DVD forum. You can continue to talk about the movie in the general movies forum. We're not trying to stop you from talking about it at all.
James Bond is an ongoing seires...there are also movies expected for Indiana Jones, Narnia, etc. There is still a Star Wars movie to come out as well. And after its release, I'm sure that forum will finally go the way of the do-do as well. Its not about being fair or not..the movie has been released...we can't keep a special board for it forever. We have to make room for other movies. I love LotR...but I know that just becuase theres not gonna be a forum, that doesn't mean that you can't talk about it..its not like we're negating the exsistance of the movies. So get over it being unfair. You're lucky he's letting you keep some of the threads and not just doing a mass prune and getting rid of the entire forum.

Agreed, Andrey but I'm still upset, oh and Lordofkings, The Green Dragon will stay active in the Community forum, We don't need the SW forum. I also concur that I thought this would end after the ROTK EE was released. I mean since when is King Kong a franchise? Its one movie and Van Helsing? Sorry but if every movie that COULD have a sequel is a franchise then this section should be much larger.

Still seems utterly ridiculous to me that we have all these other forums in the 'franchise' sub-forum, yet none (except the SW and HP forum) are anywhere near as popular or active as this forum, and TBO, I dare say a majority of the films to be released over the coming year still won't hold a candle to the extra 50 minutes of EE material, which would be worth the price of admission alone!
There is also the very strong chance that the ROTK EE will be shown in cinemas at the end of the year, (at least on a limited release) therefore you could quite legitimately say there is going to be another LOTR film released in cinemas.
Whether this should even be the issue though I'm not sure, as after all, we have a book forum at Coming Soon, yet I suspect the majority of books discussed in there have 'been out' a while, and there are no sequels or such planned, so why (by the logic of that argument) does that forum remain?
You say that the popularity and activity is not a pre-requisite for keeping a forum open, but frankly, that seems a slightly strange admission to make from where I stand. Surely the whole point of such message boards is for film fans across the world to come together and discuss films, old and new, and that you should welcome such support and community spirit from forums such as this one.
I also think most people would consider LOTR (and SW) as 'special cases' worthy of some dispensation when it comes to making such decisions. Obviously the CS forums are our to do with as you please, but it seems a shame that the members have very little say in this.

You guys should save my three LOTR DVD threads. :)
For me personally, they hold a special place in my heart as far as these forums go. The first two threads covered pretty much the progress of the FOTR and TTT DVDs (both the theatrical and extended editions) including news, rumors, pictures, speculation, some personal editorials, etc. from the time the DVDs were announced to after their release. The ROTK one only goes as far as the ROTK theatrical DVD since the massive ROTK EE thread was already created but it was still made to complete my personal LOTR DVD journey.
I can't speak for anyone else but I know I'd be really upset if these were gone. :(

This just doesn't seem right to me, not as long as this forum continues to be as active as it is. I'm all for deletion or archiving of older posts & threads to save space, but this is obviously a large part of the CS community. Clearly, the fact the the initial theatrical releases are complete does not necessarily change the need for thie forum.
If the argument is simply academic in terms of the franchises' completion, then I contest that this franchises' completion is contingent on the release of the ROTK EE, as I think many would agree -- even then, the fact that it may very well be released in theatres exclusively first, not withstanding.
Why was there a "King Kong" forum created? I don't recall a "Day After Tomorrow" forum, or a Spider-Man forum. It seems to me it is due to the natural popularity of Peter Jackson given LOTR.
Therefore, one option may be to combine King Kong and LOTR into a Peter Jackson based forum, for those following Peter's continued contributions to film.
But I would still disagree, and must protest with the closure of this forum before international distribution of the ROTK EE is complete.
he'll change his tune wants he has a shotgun barrel staring him in the face...

Comingsoon.net....
Means that this place is dedicated to films that are coming out not ones that have been released, LOTR is pretty much over, it has the EE ROTK DVD, but that has happily been discussed in a single thread for months now, if it moves to a different forum it wont make much difference will it?
Most films that have been released are talked about in General Movies and it works fine.
The reason all the other franchises have their own forums is because they have a film or films coming out in the future, LOTR doesnt, it has The Hobbit, but that is quite a while away and hasnt been confirmed has it?
Like Matrix before it this forum has had its time, I know alot of LOTR fans may not like it, but its the same thing that happened to The Matrix once everything is done the threads get moved and the forum is removed, CS! has been nice enough to allow you to select threads to save and be moved, thats better than alot of forums have had.
But Ty's idea to make this into Doomsday's Swords/Sandals forum is the best idea IMO, it falls under the catagory and alot of the threads could still be used.

Means that this place is dedicated to films that are coming out not ones that have been released, LOTR is pretty much over, it has the EE ROTK DVD, but that has happily been discussed in a single thread for months now, if it moves to a different forum it wont make much difference will it?

Why doesnt it?
If this place goes it means another forum can come in its place.
Just because I dont post in here doesnt mean I dont read what is going on, I dont know **** about LOTR but I find people talking about it interesting.
The fact that a board is being removed concernes everyone who posts on CS! not just the fans who post all the time in here.
Necross
06-04-2004, 10:28 AM
Not really, tihs forum wasn't just about the movies, you know, if you didn't post here or talk to anyone that much then you don't understand. What would take its place anyway? A Soul Plane movie franchise? Or how about we just make another franchise forum on a movie that could possibly have a sequel?
spiderman_2k
06-04-2004, 10:34 AM
Thats the thing, because I havent interacted with many people in here I am not biased, I dont mind if this place stays or if it goes, but I put my ideas and opinions for the good of the boards ahead of what is good for the LOTR fans, and what seems to be good the boards is what Mirko is doing, the threads that are active in here can be moved, they wont be deleted so I dont see what the problem is, Its an extra click or two to get a topic and the LOTR name is removed from the Franchise Forum, but does that really matter?
Necross
06-04-2004, 10:40 AM
Yeah because you know what will happen. These threads are secure here, people who don't like LOTR stay away, once these threads are moved, there will be lotr haters spam up the yin yang. I wouldn't mind if he deleted like all the threads that weren't on the first page, fine with me, but having our own little area is basically needed.
Necross
06-04-2004, 10:43 AM
As for the name ComingSoon. That really doesn't matter, I mean it has a book forum in which most of the books being talked about are already out. A whole comic book adaption forum in which a lot of the comic movies are already out in done with. Why should those stay?
spiderman_2k
06-04-2004, 10:45 AM
Its not needed, when someone spams report them and a Mod will deal with it, By that logic fans of something, like as you said Soul Plane (if there are any) or any film should get there own little area to avoid the spammers.
When the Matrix sequels were given negative reviews spammers filled up their constantly and the Mods dealt with it, and that was a whole forum, and in the end it was closed because its time had come to be closed, same as the LOTR forum, you are given the chance to have some of the threads moved which is better than nothing.

The Music, Video Game, Trivia, Book and Sports forums are in there own part of the forums and obvisouly are exceptions to the name.
The comicbook forum has forums to Batman, Spiderman, Superman and XMEN as far as I can remeber, all of those have a film coming out sometime in the next 2 years, the other films discussed in the main forum, Hulk for example is discussed there because it is the Comic Book Adaption Forum.

As I and Necross have already said/implied, this seem preety hypocritical and downright illogical.
If LOTR somehow doesn't fit alongside these other sub-forums at least as an equal, then somethng is very wrong. Surely LOTR is as worthy as an 'exception' as any other, not only in terms of the films, but given the status of the books as well.
I, and expect most here, would fully accept a winding down of this forum after the ROTK EE has been released and discussed (most likely therefore by January 2005), but prior to that just doesn't seem right.

well if losing members is good for comingsoon.net then they are doing a good thing by getting rid of this forum because i tell you now LOTR was the only reason i came here. I enjoyed all the people and news and info and threads. But if LOTR is closed i will most likely leave or rarely visit and the threads i do visit will be the EE thread and the Green Dragon. I know people are reading this i don't know why there is no response from the higher ups. The series isn't over EE and The Hobbit!

To Coming Soon:
I would like to thank you from my heart for letting the LOTR forum remain until now, and giving it an extension until The 28th. I, as are we all, very grateful to you and are in your debt. I would like to ask a request, please do not think me ungrateful, for that I am not.
The Lord Of the Rings Franchise will live on, it is far from its End. New Line and Peter Jackson intend to release an HD version of the film with more footage. The Hobbit is coming closer to being made; more editions and movies are one the horizon as a certainty. The discussions are only beginning with these new ventures in view. As well as this forum being one of the largest on your site.
I ask That this forum known as, The Lord Of The Rings, be given new life, and sent back, until its task is done.
This I ask in hopes that you will grant it, but I will not be bitter of heart if you do not. I am indebted for you allowing it to remain this long. Whatever your decision we are grateful.
In Friendship & Gratitude:

The LOTR forum gives CS some of its most frequent traffic. I don't understand, from a financial POV, why CS is so eager to shut it down. Even if there are no new LOTR movies it will still get more posting and more action than almost all other Movie Franchise forums, apart from SW.

Considering it has had the most constant traffic of all the franchise boards (the only time I can think it had less users browsing was when the Starw Wars Trailer hit) this makes sense.
CS? If you think discussion will die down, then I think you are in for a shock - we Tolkienites will analyse every frame and every sentence until we are exausted - I can see this going to last until The Hobbit starts preproduction. LOL.
But thanks for keeping it going, as you can see it means a lot to a lot of people.

I cant believe this. The movies are over. And whats wrong with moving the ROTK EE to the DVD forum and The Green Dragon to the General movies forum? Do you guys realize that the Hobbit has a higher chance of not being made than being made? I dont think this forum is neccessary when all there is left is a movie that probably wont get made and a HD DVD release. A lot of DVDs are gonna come out in HD DVD. What makes these movies so special that they are also? Im my opinion the forum has had its chance and now there is just no more need for it.

I'm pretty sure that discussion on this forum will die down come early 2005 and much as I will be sad to see the forum go, it will be time. Nothing lasts forever, and the LOTR board has certainly made a huge contribution to the CS! message boards. Gone it may be, but it will not soon be forgot. ;)
