From TeenHollywood.com
Hollywood insiders claim Ashton Kutcher and Brendan Fraser were both considered to take to the skies as Clark Kent's alter-ego but now the actor, who almost landed the role of Spider-Man opposite his girlfriend Kirsten Dunst, is set to take the role. Meanwhile, Beyonce Knowles and Kiera Knightley are being considered as the new Lois Lane in Charlie's Angels director McG's new Superman film.
This is obviously not the most reliable source, but hot off the heels of 'Day After Tomorrow', it isn't impossible, either.
You know now that you think about it nobody has been offically casted for the movie to begin with but I think Jake might make a good Clark Kent.

No way. Jake Gyllenhaal looks like a stoner, not at all an American icon.

Jake is a good actor imo and that's what Superman needs. Anyone can change how they look and the persona they give off. It's called acting

He doesn't have the Superman look. No amount of make-up can change that.

so what is the Superman look then? I'm probably the biggest Supes fan here and he doesn't have a specific look
All you need is a tall all american semibuff guy. Jake can do that as could Bomer, Hartnett, Fraser and about half the SAG

Gyllenhaal has droopy eyes making him looked stoned. He has them in every movie he's in and it makes him look like he's half asleep. His appearance doesn't yell 'Superman' to me. Maybe Superboy though. Excluding the original Superman he's kept pretty much the same look throughout the years. I don't see that look in Gyllenhaal.

I can't believe Warner Brothers is really going with McG. When they said that Ratner was involved I was extreamely excited. He has a good action:comedy ratio that he can balance very well. Or, he can dwell on one, without getting boring. He does remind me a little of Richard Donner, who directed the first Supes.
McG is just a pop director. He's going to cast all "cool" actors, so that everyone can look smooth. I will eat my hat if he comes out with something amazing though. I can't believe I'm saying the following but, just because his previous movies where big peices of pop culture crap, doesnt mean that he doesnt have a vision. *gags*
Ugh, I can't believe I said that. *gagging*

Maybe so, but Ratner had the most unfaithful and crapiest script for this film ever written.

No no no, they wheren't using that stupid one that went all over the net. He was/is a big Superman fan, he assured everyone, including the fans that he wasn't going to screw it up - at least on the script level. (Ya can't garantee everything else)

Very good point - why not change it around a bit...there are so many preconcieved bottlenecked views on how the "classic" superman should look..
HOWEVER,
The public simply is not ready for that, Jake is a good actor but as hard as i try, I just cant see him in the red and blue.

(Ya can't garantee everything else) The man wanted guys like Ashton Kutchner, Josh Hartnett and Brenden Fraiser as Superman. That right there shows that he didn't know what he was doing. And maybe he didn't have that horrific script with the gay R2-D2 type robot, but I know I've heard a lot of people say that it was not faithful at all and that it was crap.
Well, I think he would have done a good job with the material... The enjoyment, and fan reaction would have still been up in the air.

That must be the article that KryptonSite said is a fake, that nobody has said anything about Smallville ending after season five, let alone Tom Welling donning the tights and cape.
He wasn't using that script. It was different than the one leaked on the net. The reason he wanted a younger Clark was because Superman was younger. The origin was going to remain maily the same (ala - Smallville).
I'm not saying that I would have liked the movie, as I am a huge Superman fan, I'm only saying Ratner would have done a good movie, based on the material he was provided.

Gyllenhaal's a pretty good choice but I think Cavill is better suited for the role. People should weigh acting ability over anything else. An actor should have some resemblance to the character but it seems like some some fans are too hung up on an actors physical appearance. His eyes are too "droopy" or his nose is broken and "oddly" shaped. It all comes down too an actor's talent and performance to make the audience believe that he is Superman and can do all those incredible feats, that's what's important.
Burton's Edward Scissorhands/Batman approach to the character is far worse than what I read about Ratner's. No Super Powers, drives a car and wears a dark coloured costume. If that isn't destroying a character. then I don't know what is.

This is somewhat a relief. Jake Gyllenhaal is not up for Superman.
