noticed something ...

Lately I've been searching for a new avatar resource after Gamespy shut down,and I'v noticed two things-


1. there aren't many sites that have 50x50 avatars.

2. Many avatar sites consist of anime.

I was just wanted to get peoples comments and ideas why these two facts are apparantly true.I think that anime is huge,hence all the avatars,and as for the size,most forums allow much bigger sizes,so the demand for 50x50 avatars has dwindled.

You are right about both..I dont see many forums with a 50x50 limit on avatars..But most of the forums I goto where they are allowed to be bigger has a much smaller number of users online.

The anime thing is right too..Most of the forums I see are on some kind of Anime and the demand for avatars for those forums are huge.

I often make my own, use AIM Icons, or if I see one on a message board I like, I PM that user and ask to use it on another site (like my current one) If it is too big I downsize it to the normal 50x50.

What if they raised it 64x64. That seem to be the standard for most and those are easier to find then 50x50. It not much bigger, but I don't know abount any bandwith issues.

But you can find all kinds of avatars in that range (not just anime).


But just a suggestion.

If I remember prevoius discussions of increasing avatar dimensions,it was said that it would take the page to load longer if the avatars were bigger.....although it would be nice.

Well there is something that could be taken into consideration along with your suggestion of 64x64 avatars and that's the file size limit................. it doesn't have to change at all, it can still be set at 20kb and I don't see what problems can arise from that, but this is just my opinion

We've had debates in the past about changing avatar size and it hasn't happened yet so I'm just guessing here, but I'm saying it's a no.
