I think it all depends on what movie the actor is in. Some are better suited for comedy like Anna Faris from Scary Movie. i don't think we will ever see her in a serious role. She was in Lost in Translation but that part was funny too. But I agree DMX = shame to actors.

Actually I think they are a better judge than you. Thats hundreds of people voting on those awards and I think hundreds of people voting for an actor/actress make the right decision. Even if I don't think so. I feel Johnny Deep should have won the Oscar this year but Sean Penn obviously was better because he was selected, and like he said that shows its not a popularity contest because well, he has quite a few enemies.

They didn't creat all the hoopla. The public did, the first academy awards was only 4 minutes long. its the public that wanted it advertised. Its the first time an awards show like that was created, thats why its the biggest in the world. You can bet if the Golden Globes came first they would be bigger than the Oscars today.

I think before this thread goes any further, someone should define what good acting is.

apart from being a subjective subject.

For example one might say Eminem was playing himself, but essentially, Russle Crowe does the same thing in Gladiator or master and comander, and to an extent Denzel does the same in all those movies inwhich he played the same strong black male fighting some sort of oppression.
And if it's ok to play a certain type of role well then why do we all bash Keanu so much?

I think what dr_evil is trying to say is that Eminem is a rapper and his role in the movie is also a rapper. The role is closer to home for Eminim when compared to Russell's roles in many movies. Russell is Aussie not a Roman. He is not a British. He is not a Princeton educated. He is not a cop in LA. He has never work in tobacco industry. He has never been anyone slave. It is harder for Russell to link his live to any of these roles. He is an actor from Australia who has a rock band and married to an Aussie and has a kids. He is also a bad boy.

I don't like either of them but I think they can act if their life depend on it.

I don't like either of them but I think they can act if their life depend on it. Though you do have to look at what kind of character he playing as well. Crowe, witht he exception of Beautiful Mind, has played serveral hard nose fighting agaist the system, can't keep the good man down, type of characters. But he's good at it so no problem, right?

Emineim. is a rapper, played a rapper, still did a good job with it, no problem there either.

Harrision Ford has made a career out of playing the renagade. Yes Jack Ryan and Han Solo are not the same person, one a space hustler, ones a federal agent but both have much of the same character traits. But you wuold never think to assign him as that because he does it so well.

So I guess I'm saying it not the range of actors you have had, if how well you play a specfic role.
