I heard something about it, but I can't remember who is adapting/directing it. He's a fairly big name though.

Rodriguez Packing Sin City with Top Talent Source: The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday, March 17, 2004

Robert Rodriguez is eyeing some big talent for Sin City, says The Hollywood Reporter...

According to multiple sources, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Willis, Elijah Wood, Mickey Rourke, Brittany Murphy, Kate Bosworth and Jaime King have been targeted for the film, an adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel series. Some of the actors have already signed on for parts in the pic, while others are only in discussions or have just received offers to join the cast. Other names being bandied about include Benicio Del Toro and Maria Bello, though offers had not yet gone out to either as of late Wednesday. Set to start shooting shortly, "Sin City" will be composed of three intertwining vignettes revolving around a dark set of characters that call the fictional corrupt town home.

Paraphrased from this week’s Entertainment Weekly (EW) for those interested I suggest picking up a copy.

Robert’s Rules
by Scott Brown, EW

In Sin City, the rotten comic-book noir-opolis created by writer-artist Fran Miller, rules (and bones) are made to be broken. Director Robert Rodriguez is rebelling appropriately with Sin City, his adaptation of three of Miller’s beloved graphic novels: Sin City, The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow B-stard. He’s enlisted Miller as co director which has gotten Rodriquez in trouble with the Directors Guild of American (DGA) - and asked pal Quentin Tarantino to lend a helming hand later this summer. Now, Bruce Willis has joins an ever expanding cast. EW collared Rodriguez for a hard boiled sit down.

How’d You Convince Miller to let you adapt it?

I said, I’ll shoot the opening sequence with Josh Hartnett and Marley Shelton. You’ll come down, hand out, be part of it. I’ll cut it together, put the effects in. If you like what you see, we’ll make a deal and keep going. If you don’t you’ve got a nice shot film to show your friends.

What Happened With The DGA?

They said, “As you know it totally against the rules to have two directors.” And I was like, it is? How was I supposed to know that? I see co directors all the time. The Wachowski Brothers, the Hughes Brothers. It’s a subjective ruling. There’s nothing in the rule book that says it specifically – the rule book is very thick, by the way. I looked at it an it said you have to be “a bona fide team” whatever the f-ck that means.

So you left the Guild?

I’ll occupy that island of misfit directors like Quentin Tarantino and George Lucas. That’s where I’ve been banished *Laughs* It’s actually really nice here.

Any regrets?

Every day, I just look over at Frank (Miller), and he’s got this big smile on his face. And I think God, I’m really glad I got to make this movie.

The week earlier EW interviewed Quentin Tarantino who had this to say about Sin City.

Interview With Quentin Tarantino, EW

EW: What about reports of working on Robert Rodriguez’s next film Sin City?

QT: I totally want to do it – it’s based on one of Frank Miller’s graphic novels. I’d be a special quest director. He (RR) wrote the score for Kill Bill vol. 2 and charged me a dollar to do it, so I’ll charge him a buck for directing.

At this point in time Sin City is easily the most anticipated film of 2005 for me.

Seeing as how Depp has already worked with RR, and wants to work with QT, and is in talent and look very B&W Noir friendly (Dead Man) I think this is the perfect opportunity for that to happen.
