I am pondering actually picking up this mammoth to read. Since this book is a large book, I wanna know if it's worth really getting in to. I've read books almost as large as this and loved them, and some I've hated....but I have no idea what this one will be like.
Is it worth picking up?

it kinda drags, but is worth it if for no other reason than the expreience. a book you should read sometime is The Stranger, i think its by Albert Camus. anyway it is really good, and if you like salingers writing i think you would really enjoy it, and its short.

Length of a book doesn't matter to me. It's the story of the book. I'll read a 6,000 page book as long as it's interesting :D

in that case you should also read Paradise Lost. its not really that long, but it seems like it is.

I don't really know what rosncranz's tastes are, or yours for that matter Brock so i won't claim this book to be a good read, as Rosncranz seems to have found it.
But, personally, I found the novel to be supremely dull and read it only for a course I was doing at the time.
It delves deeply into the details of five different families and the details of 19th century russian aristocracy and how they operated in times of war and peace.
In the end, not my cup of tea.

oh no i agree that it was dull, but in the end i thought it was good. but like i said you could read it just for the sake of reading it, being that its a classic and all.

I would read it if it were the last book on earth, I was all alone and in desperate need of some literature. The idea that he was paid for by the word, didn't come out of nowhere.

I decided NOT to pick it up, because I found a copy of Dark Tower 3: The Waste Lands(by Stephen King) and The Once and Future King(by T.H. White)

The Stranger was ok . . . it kept my interest, although I wouldn't call it a classic . . . Paradise Lost I found to be VERY interesting and would recommend it, if one has the time to enjoy it. Good luck with War and Peace buddy, all I know is it's one of my mom's favorites.

Nope, haven't read ALL of the released books yet. I'm about to start book 3 , "The Waste Lands"(but first I'm going to read The Once and Future King). I already have a friend who was Book IV of it, "Wizard and Glass", so yeah....I'm working my way through it.
